Thailand Will Adopt New Policy to Reopen within This Year
MajorTom replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
No. At the moment this is particular to the land of greed actually. I have been in quarantine in 3 different countries in the past few months. Prices in THB. Tests included. In my experience hotel prices have been quite similar in all 3 countries under normal circumstances. Malaysia, KL: 14 days in a 4,5 Star Hotel: 22.500B Philippines: 10 days in a 5 star apartment hotel with separate bedroom, western kitchen, washing machines, dryer etc.: 39.000B. Something similar in Thailand would probably cost 200K+ Thailand: 15 days in run-down 3 star ASQ. cockroaches, mold etc.: 59.000B -
Israeli scientist says COVID-19 could be treated for under $1/day
MajorTom replied to ezzra's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Some clinical trials are indecisive about cheap and available medications. Some are very supportive of it. All trials are irrelevant at this point. We now have real world data from countries its been widely used, and it has worked just as good as the best vaccines on the market. This is not some claim or theory i am making. Its results from some of the most populated countries in the world. Anyone can spend 30 minutes and check the historical trends where this was done. How did India reduce deaths and infections by 90% While having a vaccination rate of 4%? Magic? Prayer? Same trend can now be seen in Indonesia. I will take my chances on the vaccine if i can get it. But if anything makes me sceptical, its this "war on ivermectin" -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2021)
MajorTom replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Gomorrah is on my top 3 list of everything made on TV. And its based on a true story. It developed from a totally failed housing project in Napoli. It became the most murderous neighborhood in Europe. One of the towers stills stands. "Le vele di scampia" Also worth checking out is the movie: "L'Immortale". Part of the same story. -
Ok, fair play to you. But now we know. All these arbitrary requirements does create its problems for inexperienced people. Friend of mine was denied boarding with a valid return ticket. Because Qatar airlines wasn't updated that the visa exempt had been extended to 45 days. He was stonewalled and then tricked into wasting 100s of dollars on a new RETURN ticket within 30 days.. He was worried about loosing his ASQ, COE etc. so just forked out.

onwardticket.com is not actually "fake" tickets. You just pay them a fee to hold a reservation in your name for a certain period. I believe most travel agencies can do this. Price varying. You can also log-on to the airline with your confirmation code and check/manage the booking. This should not be necessary of course. But when certain "bureaus" insists on creating solutions to problems that does not exist; its good that there are simple ways to bypass it.

COE with NON-O Volunteer Re-entry permit?
MajorTom replied to MajorTom's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Update: COE not approved for RE-Entry without work permit. I tried explaining WP is not necessarily required to have this type of extension, but got nowhere. Re-applied using Visa Exempt: Approved. (They were strict on ONWARD ticket for this) Strangely, when you get your COE, it does not mention anything about visa-class. Immigration also stamped me back in on the RE-entry permit, no questions asked. -
Strange. I have never been asked for 2 original RCs in Phuket. I think i have renewed for car and motorbike there 3-4 times. Always one original +copy. Same for medical.
-
The requirement is onward ticket. But that has almost never been enforced. Would i chance it now, risk loosing pre-paid AQ, Insurance, COE application etc.? No. In the past i have entered Thailand nearly 100 times (seriously) on visa exempt, traveling on one-way tickets. One time only did i have to buy a throwaway ticket at check-in. Thai immigration has never asked me for any ticket. Onward or return.

Covid insurance - inpatient only
MajorTom replied to XGM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
This is a very good point. At embassies or immigration - whatever. Never ask to many questions if you don't have to. They are not there to help anyone. Q: Could this issue be a problem for me? A: Yes! Yes! Yes!???????? Its like asking my dog if he wants snacks. -
Cost of living comparison between UK & Thailand
MajorTom replied to trevoromgh's topic in Home Country Forum
Thailand likes to tax quality. Not necessarily to protect any local products. They just make everything good=expensive. I dragged one of those Le-creuset cooking pots with me from Norway. Cost me 8-9000B at the time. Later saw the same one in a mall in BKK: 30K!! ???? I always do some shopping when im in Europe. Even simple stuff like socks and shirts. Its better quality AND cheaper. -
COE with NON-O Volunteer Re-entry permit?

Yeah, its easy to miss that button. (I did on the travel insurance, but the website would not let me continue) -
COE with NON-O Volunteer Re-entry permit?
MajorTom replied to MajorTom's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I'm not claiming you are wrong, but i have read both links a couple of times and if its clear on anything: The Manila link does NOT require a WP.. It mentions "work permit holders/retirees/volunteers/spouses/children/witness for the judicial process etc. in the same group (O). Not combining WP with any of these. The DC one does not mention anything about a no WP situation. I does say however if you already have a re-entry permit you are good to go.. -
Is this possible? My COE application was just rejected by the Thai Embassy in Manila. I was not told why exactly.. i got the following message: "Due to Upload relevant documents for your visa also your health insurance certificate. " I uploaded what was asked for: Passport front page, Visa and/or re-entry permit. And the 100K USD covid insurance certificate i just got for this purpose. I made sure it was covering all days remaining of my extension of stay permit++ I could switch and apply for COE with visa exemption instead.. I assume I will then also need onward ticket within 45 days? This non-o extension will expire soon anyway so it does not matter much which option i go for. Just thought I would use the re-entry permit since i had it.
