I have. Yellow book it can be very useful so it’s worth getting I was also given an ID card with it if I recall the total cost was 500 baht and as I am in my 60s they told me it is for life so no having to go back and renew it . Life is so much easier when doing your yearly extension of stay at immigration  no need for lease agreements I just hand in my book at that’s it  another advantage is that you no longer need to go to immigration to purchase a letter of confirmation of address if buying a vehicle or renewing your drivers licence. I am not sure if it’s a good idea to get a yellow book by fraudulent means if I am right you will not be living there but living in another province I think if you were caught you could be in big trouble if it’s only for Mail is it worth it I think not  .

  2. I just done my wife and four kids Thai passport last week in Chiangmai. Is easy, just make a copy of each of the passport front page and together with the original passport, summit to your local area MOFA and paid 200 baht for each passport, I paid total 800 bath as I need to endorse 4 passports. If you summited in Monday morning, you can get it back on Wednesday morning. Don’t need to make any English translation as the passport is in English unless someone need a different language.

But I do gather that Chiang Mai are pedantic in the sense that they insist on a fresh TM30 being filed each time one returns to LOS from a trip to foreign pastures, even to the same address as before. Ditto Jomtien.

The OP might therefore wish to check whether Chumpon are similarly pedantic in this regard, particularly if he has any imminent plans for foreign travel.

I return from overseas few time this year and went to make a report to Chiangmai immigration office and was told just to update the TM 6, no new TM 30 have been issued to me at this point and I just go alone without my Thai wife, take me only 5 to 10 minutes. Cheers

  4. I'd be interested to know what the outcome is regarding the tablien ban and pink ID, if immigration are interested in it, or give you any brownie points for it? i.e. not requiring a witness as you have the same registered address?

I have both docs, but haven't bothered to mention them, as at the moment they (along with my wife's house reg &  ID) are for a different address in the same village. Depending on the outcome, it may be worth changing them all to where we actually live, not just registered as living.
I know it's a while before your extension is due, but if you could reply on this thread it would be great, thanks.

I stay in chiang mai, the IO told me that they don't interested in my yellow house book and pink ID. I have two children born in Thailand also but still need to provide witness at the immigration office.

You need a work-permit and working and paying taxes for years to qualify to apply for Citizenship or Permanent Residence.  If married to a Thai, it makes more sense to go for Citizenship (cheaper - not including lawyer's costs for either - and full-rights as a citizen).
See Camerata's thread for the Permanent-Residence process, which might be a better route if you are not married to a Thai:

I'm married in Thailand with my Thai wife and now have two children at the ages of 11 & 12, kindly advice the process to qualify for the Thai citizenship. Thanks

Chiang Mai - It clearly states that no extensions will be issued without a completed TM30!

I have just done my 1 year marriage visa extension in Chiang mai immigration office and the IO took a photo copy of my TM 30 and yellow house book for they record. He have told me that with out the TM 30 I can't get the extension of stay in Thailand. As so, is important to get it done and keep it in our passport for the future as I don't have any intention to paid any fine. Cheers

  7. As what I know; you need your wife to go together for marriage extension but if you only based on your children to apply for the extension, normally the IO will question you ( sometime children ) about "why your wife not present?" You need to have a very good answer for them.

i have a friend got it done because his wife run away from the house for the pass few weeks, no one knew where she go and he need to take care of he's two kids ( age 5 & 9 ). For your case, I'm not sure, is better to have her go together to save time.

He would not be able to apply for citizenship since apparently is not married to a Thai. To apply for citizenship requires having permanent residency for 5 years unless married to a Thai.

He could qualify to apply for permanent residency but he might not meet the monthly salary requirement to do it. It seems it might be to late to apply since his job may end this year.

That's true, I also have the intention to apply for the Thai citizenship base on my marriage with Thai and my Thai kids ( I'm now age of 50 ) but later I found out that I need to hold minimal three years work permit in Thailand under the requirement. Because of that, I'm at the moment looking for job in Thailand to fulfill the said requirement. "Crying" .......can't enjoy my happy retired and need to work again.

A good question, the way I look at it is:

-- 500k will get you five years.  It gets you *one* visa sticker in your passport.  You've paid your 500k and that's all your getting.  You will look at your passport, see the Thailand Elite VIsa sticker in it, and say I paid 500k for that?!

    - 1M will get you 20 years.  It gets you a visa sticker just like above,  but you will know you will get *THREE* more like that over the future.  So your expenditure of money did not immediately end in benefits.  You still have three more to look forward to in the future.

    - If we consider 500k minimum, then it's a choice between sticking with that (and paying 0 more) or paying 500k more.  So a way to look at it is: IF I pay 500k more I get 15 more years.. 15 Years is a long time.

-- 1M will get you 20 years of coverage.  That may be enough to see you out [emoji14]

-- The retirement visa is no easy breezy walk in the park.  You still have to lock up 800k in the bank for 3-4 months a year, as well as fill in paper work on a yearly basis.  Depending on your situation you may end up ear-marking 800k permanently for the purpose of showing to the government.  You might just say: Okey, I need 800k a year locked up in the bank.  Well I could either leave it overseas and don't touch it, or leave in Thailand and don't touch it, that way I never worry about meeting the quota in time.  But locking up 800k like this is not too far off from paying an extra 500k for 15 years of coverage.

-- You do get a sort of inflation/exchange protection: It's 800k proof now, but in 10 years it may go up.  Whereas with the TE you are paying in advance so have inflation/exchange protectionof a sort.  (Note, this is disputable and easy to re-interpret in many ways, so just a minor thing).  (Maybe you would rather lock in the 500k exchange rate now in case it goes even worse over the next 10 years)

A strong argument could be made if you were already 50 (then a choice of retirement vs. Thailand Elite).  But if you are already convinced to get the 5 year, I would encourage the 20 year for 'only' 500k more.  Because at that point, it really is 'only' 500k more for an additional 15 years.  Kind of like going into the store: Buy 1, *or* Buy 2 and get 2 free.  Most would opt for the latter.  My GF does each and every time......

-- Finally, with 20 years worth of protection paid up for, you don't have to worry/think/plan anything for a *long* time (if ever).

Very good advice [emoji1303].OP should consider the 20 years if have the money, as thing alway change in the regulation/requirement. Maybe will need more that one million for the retirement visa in the future.

  10. Either way it means on or after your 15th birthday.

That is 15 years because you're not 1 year old until your 1st birthday. Likewise, you turn 15 on your 15th birthday, so you are suddenly "over 15" and "over 15 years" and "15 years old" all at the same time.

Agree! In Asia, normally it said, age of 15 and above or 14 and below to different a child age that he have not reached his birthday for 15.

  11. That is the problem, the translation of originally Thai into English sometimes cause misunderstanding. I have check with my local friend this morning as he stay nearby my house ( senior police officer ) and he told me that, only after 15 birthday will be sent to court if he have done thing again the law and if he didn't reach 15 birthday, normally would request they parents to come to the police station to solve it out.
I will try to find out more if I happen to meet other friend that work in the immigration as he also stay in same village with me.

  12. You're right. I seem to have been influenced by an attitude that is quite prevalent on this forum.
My observation was not helpful and I'm sorry for that but still can't help wonder how that situation would arise.

To me, we all know that is illegal to over stay and I'm very sure everybody agrees. I do believe, OP must have his own difficulty and we need to respect him. Just like if someone is rich, he don't want to live like a banger banging in the street etc........

  13. I'm preparing all documents to apply under marriage but one thing is still unclear to me: my marriage was registered abroad and not directly in Thailand, so all I have is the translation and an equivalent thai document of the marriage (Ko Ro 22, issued 18 years ago) but no actual "thai certificate" or thai registration like the one people married in thailand get. Could this be an issue?

And definitely, I will share any point that can help others, as soon as I'm advanced in the process.

Is not a issue for your marriage certificate as Long as it have been translated to Thai and certified by the Thai authorities.
