xxx Did you read the first paragraph of the OP, or even take notice of the title? I'm not moving any goalposts; it's Greta who has moved the goalposts herself, from climate change to the war against Hamas in Gaza. Her boat trip on the selfie yacht was definitely about Israel and the Jews, although she claimed it was a humanitarian mission to aid Palestinians. It seems Greta's concern over global warming has, uhh, cooled, and she's found a new hot issue in Israel's fight against terrorists who seek to destroy the homeland of the world's Jews. Unfortunately, she has been influenced by hardcore Hamas supporters and some of their hatred of Jews and the Jewish homeland has rubbed off on her. Given that Greta has acknowledged she suffers autism and bipolar disorder, I imagine she does indeed hate the blahs, but her doctor has probably prescribed Sertraline (Zoloft) to help with that. If she hates Mexicans or Muslims (and there's no reason to believe she does; I haven't heard her chant "Crush zapatismo" or "Crush Islamism"), then it would be a problem for Mexicans and Muslims, not me. Her hatred of Jews is a problem for me because antisemitism inevitably turns violent against Jewish people. The worst development possible is for antisemitism to become normalized.

To remind you once again: The words "My guess" in your sentence referred to military retaliation. If raining barrages of missiles on Israel isn't military retaliation, what would you call it? And I have to ask: By "covertly," do you mean terrorist bombings or other terrorist actions in the region (Middle East?) and in the West (Europe, North and South America, Australia)?

Seems like your guess was a bit off. Iran attacks Israel in retaliation, killing at least 3 and injuring dozens of others Sirens blared throughout Tel Aviv and smoke billowed in the sky as people ran for shelter during Iran's retaliatory strikes against Israel on Friday night into Saturday morning, killing at least 3 people and injuring dozens of others. https://www.npr.org/2025/06/13/nx-s1-5432437/israel-attacks-iran-retaliation-nuclear Katz says Ayatollah regime ‘crossed red lines’ with barrages at civilian centers, will pay heavy price Defense Minister Israel Katz says Iran has “crossed red lines after it dared to fire missiles at civilian population concentrations in Israel.” “We will continue to defend the citizens of Israel and ensure that the Ayatollah regime pays a very heavy price for its heinous actions,” he adds https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/katz-says-ayatollah-regime-crossed-red-lines-with-barrages-at-civilian-centers-will-pay-heavy-price/ Israel Warns ‘Tehran Will Burn’ If Iranian Strikes Continue as Countries Trade Deadly Missiles Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz on Saturday morning threatened severe consequences if Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei doesn’t retreat. “If Khamenei continues to fire missiles at the Israeli home front, Tehran will burn,” Katz said, after a meeting with leaders of the Israeli military. “The Iranian dictator is turning Iran’s citizens into hostages and creating a reality in which they, especially the residents of Tehran, will pay a heavy price for the criminal attacks on Israeli civilians.” https://time.com/7294186/israel-warns-tehran-will-burn-deadly-strikes-traded-nuclear-program/ It's doubtful Iran has the military resources to close the Strait of Homuz. It could perhaps disrupt shipping to some degree, but not maintain an effective closure. Assessing the threat to oil flows through the Strait An excerpt: However, despite repeated Iranian threats to close the Strait of Hormuz during the Tanker War, Iran did not follow through with this threat. The only chokepoint to be completely blocked by a relatively recent regional conflict was the Suez Canal between 1967 and 1975. However, the Suez Canal is only 984 feet wide at its narrowest point, whereas the Strait of Hormuz is 25-30 miles wide at its narrowest point. https://www.strausscenter.org/strait-of-hormuz-faq/ The command structure of the Iranian military is hurt badly by these assassinations. The promotion of generals depends on their adherence to Islam and loyalty to the mullahs as much or more than their military skill and experience. Finding suitable replacements for the generals killed could take the mullahs awhile.

Yup. Under the Shah, Iran had amicable relations with Israel, including full diplomatic recognition. Iran had been the only Muslim-majority country to do so. Iran has a large military force, with close to one million men under arms, counting both active duty personnel and reservists. However, the Iranian armed forces are undertrained and underequipped. Much of the military equipment the military uses is obsolete, especially the Iranian Air Force. It has virtually no air defenses against Israel. Another problem is that the Iranian armed forces are poorly led, with officers of all ranks chosen more on belief in Islam and loyalty to the mullahs than military skill. And should Iran ever become involved in a war than required full deployment of its armed forces, it would face a very real risk of domestic rebellion from those tired of the Islamist government as well as minority groups such as Kurds, Azeris and Balochs. The Iranian government remains in power through tight control by the military of all opposition. If it is diverted from domestic suppression, rebellion is almost certain. Iran's leaders know that well. It's a bit hard to know when people are being tongue-in-cheek. Through the years, I've heard many opponents of Israel suggest in all seriousness that Israelis should be moved to the U.S.

Transport Direct Thailand-US Flights Poised for Takeoff After 2015 Halt
Evil Penevil replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I took the nonstop Thai NYC-BKK flight during its first week of service in 2005 and then three or four times a year until it was canceled in 2008. It was indeed a great flight, the best possible way to get from the east coast of the U.S. to Thailand. It had a convenient departure time (noon if I remember right) and arrived at four in the afternoon rather than late at night. Return times for BKK were similarly convenient- departure at midnight and arrival at JFK at 7:00 a.m. More than once after a Thailand trip I went directly from JFK to my office. The nonstop flight gave visitors more time to enjoy Thailand than any other flight option. However, the BKK-JFK nonstop never proved as popular as Thai had hoped. It failed to attract enough of the full-fare business class passengers who provided most of the revenue. After about six months the BKK-JFK service was cut from six days a week to four. Only one of the 11 flights I took out of JFK was completely full, although several to JFK had been. The chatter on Flyer Talk in 2008 was Thai canceled the service because it failed to hedge against surging jet fuel prices, which made the route unprofitable even if it every flight would have sold out. -
The Prime Minister of France would seem to agree. France says aid boat activists exploiting Gaza suffering France's Prime Minister Francois Bayrou on Wednesday accused French activists who sailed on a Gaza-bound aid boat of capitalising on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for political attention. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/france-says-aid-boat-activists-exploiting-gaza-suffering/ar-AA1GwjC8?ocid=msedgntp&pc=W230&cvid=f56118899cc3440e96c27b7d3d012243&ei=50France says aid boat activists exploiting Gaza suffering

I have every reason in the world to doubt Greta Thunberg is "very principled" or "has strong moral beliefs," but I'm not going to elaborate because that would provoke argumentative responses and would certainly veer off topic. I will say I don't find the strength of anyone's beliefs helps prove the validity of those beliefs. It's what those beliefs involve that's crucial, not how intensely they are held. I'm sure Hitler, Hamas and Greta all strongly believed in what they did or do, but that doesn't make their hatred of Jews any more acceptable. And on a lighter note ... It seems the Israeli government does have a sense of humor. When they deported Greta, they put her in the worst seat (non-reclinable last row aisle seat next to the toilet) on an El-Al flight to Stockholm via Paris. For a "flight shamer" like Greta, that must have been punishment in more ways than one.

Greta's Facebook page reads, "Autistic & bipolar climate justice activist," under the Intro header. https://www.facebook.com/gretathunbergsweden She has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Her parents, mainly her mother, wrote a book (Scenes from the Heart) about their struggles to deal with Greta's eating disorder, depression and mood swings in the years before Greta became famous. Greta has a younger sister who has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), so the family had some heavy duty mental health issues with which to deal. In her early years of climate-change fame, Greta was dependent on her father (a failed Swedish actor) for support. He served as her caretaker, business manager, chaperone and personal assistant. After Greta turned 18, other people, mostly female volunteers in Greta's climate group, began taking over the support functions her father once filled. It seems recently these close friends have been replaced by hard-core Hamas supporters. If you look at Greta's Facebook page (3.4 million followers), it's now dominated by posts from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. It looks like Hamas has found one more useful fool. It's still unclear to what extent she can function independently when it comes to practical details in life, like managing money and paying bills. It's also unclear whether she is subject to depression and mood swings. Given all of that, coupled with her growing alienation from the climate-change movement and acceptance of pro-Hamas antisemitism, it seems unlikely she'll be able to get a "real job." But maybe she could become a spokesman for a sandwich maker! https://x.com/SpencerJJoseph/status/1932032831800140168/photo/1 Or perhaps do ads for a company that makes waterproof cellphones?

Koreans and Korean Americans took to the rooftops to protect their businesses because the LAPD didn't. Much of Koreatown had been burned down prior to the emergence of the rooftop protectors. About half of the total property damage of $1 billion in the LA Riots was done to Koreatown. The most striking feature of the Rooftop Koreans was that no looters or rioters were shot or killed by them. Their presence was enough to scare off looters because the looters feared the Rooftop Koreans would be more likely to shoot them than police. That said, two deaths were associated with the Rooftop Koreans. An 18-year-old Korean American was shot by mistake by other Korean Americans and a Latino man was killed outside a shop, possibly by a rooftop Korean but most likely by a Latino gang member.

Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard has criticized Greta Thunberg for her social media plea for her friends and supporters to put pressure on the Swedish government to win her release from Israeli custody. According to the Foreign Minister, the video plea resulted in hundreds of people calling the hotline number the Foreign Ministry uses for Swedes in distress while abroad. "This means that there is currently, as a result of this campaign, a very long waiting time that seriously risks affecting Swedes all over the world who need immediate consular assistance, says Malmer Stenergard to journalists." The Foreign Minister describes the action as irresponsible and "very, very serious." "It is obvious that people have been encouraged to contact the Foreign Ministry in a way that risks affecting other Swedish citizens who are actually in distress. Then I think people should think about what responsibility they themselves have in that." https://swedenherald.com/article/swedish-foreign-ministry-monitors-greta-thunbergs-situation-in-gaza When speaking before the Swedish Parliament, Malmer Stenergard said the Foreign Ministry and Swedish embassy in Tel Aviv are monitoring the situation. "Our assessment at present is that no one on board is in danger and that they therefore do not have any need for consular assistance at present." The Foreign Ministry said separately that should Thunberg request consular aid, she would be given it like any other Swedish citizen. Malmer Stenergard emphasized Thunberg and the other activists have a "clear personal responsibility." "The crew and passengers on Madleen are aware of the risks of this campaign, the Foreign Ministry has advised against traveling to Gaza for ten years and they have a clear personal responsibility if they disregard an advisory, which I have also been very clear about in many different contexts, she says in the parliamentary chamber." https://swedenherald.com/article/swedish-foreign-ministry-monitors-greta-thunbergs-situation-in-gaza

There's a huge difference between Greta Thunberg and 95% of the population, in fact 99.99999% of the population. She's a public figure who won a big audience through her climate-change activism, She is now taking advantage of her status to loudly advocate for the Palestinian side in the Gaza conflict. She has accused Israel of committing war crimes and genocide, while remaining very quiet about the atrocities Hamas committed to start the conflict. She needs to watch the video of Hamas' atrocities to understand why Israel is waging the war it does in Gaza. The 95% of the population you mention don't need to watch it because they aren't public advocates for the Palestinian side. Many of the public supporters of Hamas, celebrity and otherwise, have downplayed or even denied Hamas committed atrocities. Watching the video would give them the proof they seem to have ignored or avoided. If you acknowledge that Hamas committed atrocities against innocent civilians on Oct. 7, then you don't need to watch video footage of these horrible crimes. But if you or anyone else doubt they happened or believe the Israeli government is exaggerating about them, then you do. And I regard people who serve as apologists for terrorists and antisemites to be far worse than ridiculous.

Yup. Just toss him into a cell full of Thais and let them know what he has done. He will truly and forever regret his crime. If she is an employee of the Immigration Police, as opposed to a volunteer, I believe she's allowed to wear an official uniform, at least the vest. She's not a police officer, but all police forces have civilian employees.

LA Mayor Bass statement on LA ICE roundup of Illegals…
Evil Penevil replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
Looting has been a common feature of U.S. riots since the 1960s. The rioters protest social injustice by stealing big-screen TVs and designer handbags. The looting was particularly bad during the 2020 BLM riots.
