I don’t want to be pedantic or introduce you to old stuff, but what I wrote in my opener regarding Savannakhet in my link below is still valid today and that goes for what I handed in and how my paperwork was set up.

By the way ID card of your wife is indeed sufficient and not both, she might even not have a passport.

What I may add is the Thai Application Form. It consists of 2 pages and please make sure it is a one page back to back print-out.

    Good luck.

Thanks so much for the detailed info and the attachment for the application form and for your response. Greatly appreciated gzu88bv! Sorry I took so long to respond though.

I was there last Wednesday it was dead, around 25 people at the most. I had all the docs for a multiple non O based on marriage, had the guy check everything and do the form for 100 baht, very fast and easy. You'll be fine, don't fret ????

I forgot to ask you earlier. So to make sure, the guy will fill out the Non O VISA form too? And does this guy make copies of my Lao Visa too? Also to make sure, where is this guy located? I heard right across the gate for the Thai Consulate.

The paperwork requested for a single entry NON O visa is still these:

    • MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE ORIGINAL + COPY SIGNED (KOR.2-KOR.3)
    • COPY OF TABIEN BAAN OF PARTNER SIGNED
    • COPY PARTNER’S ID CARD AND (PASSPORT) SIGNED
    • VISA APPLICATION FORM
    • 2 PHOTO
    • (ORIGINAL LETTER OF INVITATION SIGNED BY SPOUSE)

    or is changed?

If it's the same for a Non O Multi entry then I think so.

Thanks for the encouragement Quack. The guy checking the form works for the Thai Consulate? And if so, where should he be located? Several years ago, I went to Vientiane and the guy who helped me do fill my form took my passport and paperwork and disappeared somewhere. He came back eventually with everything filled out and everything given back but those minutes he was gone I was ready to <deleted> (what is this deleted thing?) anyway I was ready to defecate in my pants any second and kept thinking to myself that I must've done the most stupid thing in the world.

AFAIK Monday the Thursday are still no-go days if you have the choice.  Might be best to stay in Mukdahan Monday night and cross Tuesday morning. visit Consulate and then proceed to hotel when more rooms should be available and border fewer people.  Should be few Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon for pickup.

    Thanks for the advice Lopburi3,

was thinking of going Monday morning across the border but after you mentioned about more hotels rooms being available Tuesday, I'll follow your advice and maybe stay in Mukdahan Monday and go across the border or drive from my home in Sakhon Nakon early Tuesday morning to the border.

You are aware that if visa is still valid you can just exit and return to Thailand for a new 90 day stay as you have been doing during the year it is valid?  Or do you really mean visa has expired and you are on a permitted to stay stamp that allows stay until Tuesday?  Avalon or Aura (same area) are often mentioned as good choice to stay in the 700 baht range.

Thanks for the fast response Lopburi3,

Sorry, I meant I'm in Thailand on a permitted to stay until October 1st, Tuesday as I originally entered Thailand this past May and already got an extension. So, I will be applying for a new Non O VISA Multi entry. Thanks also for the suggestion for Avalon or Aura, Ill check it out. I'm still contemplating if I should chance it and go to the Thai consulate on Monday or screw the hassle and congestion and go to Savannakhet an extra day from my plan and chill on Monday and go to the Thai Consulate on Tuesday instead. But many thanks anyway Lopburi3.

  7. Hey Everyone,

I wrote earlier this year with my thousand questions about getting a Non O Multi Entry VISA. It will expire on October 1 (Tuesday). I'm planning to go to the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet to apply for a new non O multi entry. I heard that Mondays and Thursdays are very bad days to go to the Thai consulate in Savannakhet. Does anyone know the current situation with Mondays and Thursdays there? If its still ridiculously bad on Mondays and Thursdays, I'll go to Savannakhet on Monday and to the Thai consulate Tuesday (the day my VISA expires).

Also, does anyone know a decent place they could suggest me to stay in Savannakhet which is walking distance to the bus station and to the Thai Consulate?

    Many Thanks In Advance,

You can do it that way or apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife and then go out for the multiple entry non-o visa near the end of the 60 days.

No need to get a single entry non-o since your multiple entry non-o visa will still be valid. It is valid for one year from the date of issue.

Thanks again for your help and response Ubonjoe. If I get a 60 day extension first, how far in advance can I go to the Immigration office to apply for a 60 day extension before my 60 days is up on August 2 and do I need to show funds deposited into a Thai bank account or 400,000 baht in my bank account?

Also, do I need to report myself to the Immigration office before I go to Savannakhet for my multi entry non o?

  9. On 6/28/2019 at 9:10 AM, ubonjoe said:

That is because it cannot be done without going out for a new multiple entry non-o visa.

As I explained you can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage and then get a multiple re-entry permit.

OK so my understanding is, since I entered Thailand on a single entry non o visa May 5 and got stamped by the passport control officer "admitted until 2 August, I can go straight to Savannakhet sometime before August 2 to apply for a non o multiple entry visa without applying for a one year extension of stay first here in Thailand? My plan is to stay in Thailand till April of next year which then I will fly back home to Hawaii for a couple of weeks and there, I will apply for a new non o single entry visa.

The OP sounds just like me 5 years ago when I first started asking you similar questions. I’m glad the income verification procedures didn’t change until after I was living here for a while and I knew more about the immigration rules. If I were new to living in Thailand today and if I didn’t know the rules today I think I would probably find the immigration system very confusing if I were new to Thailand today.

Up until 2017, I've been getting a multi entry Non immigrant O visa from the Thai Consulate in Honolulu (where I'm from) with no problem but for 2018 last year, the Thai Consulate in Honolulu stopped issuing Multi Entry Non immigrant O visas and only single entry. So, last year I sent my passport to the Thai consulate in Los Angeles for a multi entry which I got no problem. But this year, they denied my application so I resorted in getting a single entry from the Thai Consulate in Honolulu. So this is why, I'm really clueless now in the process of getting my single entry changed to a multi entry.

The rules state only one transfer is needed but the more you can do before applying the better.

Best to check with your local immigration office about it since some may want more.

You could also could apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife if they wanted a couple more transfers and then apply for the one year extension.

OK, Ill go check with the immigration office first thing next week. Thanks again ubonjoe for your help on this and all other past questions I had which you helped answer for me.

You would be applying for a extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. You can apply for it during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from you non-o visa.

You need proof of a income of 40k baht or 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months.

To prove the 40k baht income you can use proof of income from your embassy or if you cannot get proof of income from your embassy proof of the 40k baht going into a Thai bank every month for 12 months. For the first extension of stay application you only need proof of it being transferred  for a couple of months or more.

After you get the extension of stay stamp in your passport you can apply for a single or multiple re-entry permit to keep you extension valid when you enter the country after a trip out.

Thanks again Ubonjoe for your input. You've helped me a lot in the past with other issues I had along with this. For the last couple of years, I've been having money (about 60,000 baht)deposited into my account back home but never transferred it into a Thai bank account and just used my card to use money here in Thailand. I came back to Thailand this year this past May 5th and my 90 day entry will be up this coming August 2nd, would you think it'll be too late to apply for an extension even if I deposited 40,000 baht in a Thai bank account starting from July? Sorry if what I'm asking you is not clear.

Sorry also that I'm really clueless about the procedure I must do for changing my single entry to a multi entry at an immigration office here.

    What nationality are you.?

    It makes a difference.

    EDIT.

    You appear to be American.

You need to show 40,000 a month being transfered to your Thai bank from abroad.

As this is the first year they are supposed to be showing leniency and 3 or 4 months should be enough.

    Go and ask them.

This is for a 12 month extension of stay.

Thanks for your response. You're right, I'm an American. I currently reside here in Thailand since 2009 but every year during the school break, I go back home and at the same time been applying and getting a multi entry Non Immigrant O visa but the Thai consulate in my hometown can only issue single entry non immigrant o. Ill drop by the immigration office and inquire to be sure though like you suggested.

You need to know that what you are looking for is an extension of stay based on marriage, and that is NOT a VISA.

Furthermore to be able to travel outside Thailand with this extension you need to purchase from immigration in beforehand a so called Re Entry Permit allowing you to leave without them cancelling your extension....

    glegolo

Thanks for the info. Sorry I meant extension of stay. I arrived with a single entry as the Thai consulate in Hawaii (where I originally traveled from) could only give me a single entry and was told I could change it to a multi entry at an immigration office in Thailand.

  15. Hello everyone,

I need to change my Single entry Non immigrant O VISA based on marriage changed to multi entry at the Immigration office in Sakhon Nakon.

I thought I read somewhere instead of showing 400,000 baht in a bank account, I can show deposits made to a Thai bank account of 40,000 baht every month. Can anyone verify this? If so, would you know how many months in advance do I have to show 40,000 baht deposited into a Thai bank account before my single entry VISA expires.

Thanks in advance for your help on this

  16. Hello,

Im hoping someone whose spouse has renewed their U.S Visa via mail can help me by answering my questions. (I inquired my questions with the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok via their site but the answers I got from them were vague)

I'm a U.S citizen born and grew up in the U.S (Hawaii) and currently residing here in Thailand. My Thai wifes U.S VISA will expire this coming October and was informed by the U.S Embassy in Bangkok that my wife is able to renew her U.S VISA by mail as she qualifies for this.

    My questions are:

    1) My kids, wife and I usually visit back home to Hawaii every year about April but for next year, only I will go. Will need a flight date as we don't have our flights booked yet for 2021.

    2) Via the U.S Embassy site, my wife is referred to fill out the D-160 form online. For renewing U.S VISAs, is this the correct form?

    3) If the D 160 for is the correct form, I saw a part of it requesting for a photo of my wife, does she take the photo via the computer we are filling out the form on?

Thank you so much in advance if you can help me with my questions on this.

You could delay going by getting the 60 day extension.

You could go when your 90 days are near ending. Just check there are no holidays that would affect doing the application.

List of holidays for Savannakhet is here. http://www.thaisavannakhet.com/savannakhet/th/consulate/officehours/

Thanks again Ubonjoe for the link and information. Thanks not only for the help you gave me on this topic but many other topics/problems I had in the past.

You could apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife at immigration to get more time to have it in the bank for 2 months.

If you can have the 400k baht in the bank for 2 months you would not need a multiple entry non-o visa. Another single entry would be enough.

He probably thought it was needed and gave them the proof of it without it being asked for.

No reports of anybody being asked to show it.

Thanks for the response. I do have recurring funds coming to me but it will take a while for me to pull what I can together to make 400k. But anyway, I was thinking the German guy got something mixed in what he told me. I think I'll be going to Savankhet for a Non Immigrant "O" multi entry visa. When do you think I should head on over to Savanakhet before my 90 days on my single entry is up?

A ticket out of the country is required within 30 days of arrival when entering to get a 30 day visa exempt entry. Immigration seldom ask to see the ticket but the airline may ask for one in order to check in for you flight.

You could get a low cost one way ticket to any nearby country from any airport here to meet the requirement. You can also use one to apply for a single entry tourist visa at the consulate.

Thanks for info and suggestion. I'm in Thailand now with a single entry non immigrant O visa. Just to make sure, I was told by the Thai Consulate General in Honolulu that before my single entry expires to go to a Thai immigration office to "change" my visa from a single entry to a multi entry non immigrant O visa. By saying "change", is he referring to applying for an "extension"?

If so, I don't think I can come up with 400,000 baht in my bank account for 2 months in time for this extension, would my alternative option be to go to the Thai Consulate in Savankhet to get a non immigrant O Multiple Entry visa? A German guy I recently met here in Thailand said he needed to show 400,000 baht in a bank account at Savanakhet for his non immigrant O visa based on marriage too but from many here in the Thaivisa forum have said that the Thai Consuate in Savankhet doesnt require the 400,000 baht in a bank account.
