If you know anything about health insurances, you would know that the thai insurances you need to chose from if having an O-A Visa/extension are very expensive and in many cases useless. If you want an insurance you get one yourself from a company of your choice and there are loads of options which is cheaper and better. This is why you go for a Non-immigrant O Visa based on retirement instead of an O-A Visa.
I already had insurance with one of the quoted companies. 5m baht cover, 40,000 baht, thats hardly too expensive if I need medical treatment. What is expensive is choosing to go with the minimum requirement just to satisfy the visa conditions.

Not in the case of something like this, you won`t be allowed to fly, pretty much paralysed overnight and bed bound, linked to food poisoning from shellfish. Won`t immigration accept your insurance? I`m sure there are many military retirees that have insurance that will be accepted.

They won't look at your policy documents. If they ask for anything it will be a certificate signed by insurer saying you have a policy which meets Imm requirements which of course you don't have.
As your visa was issued before the effective date and is atill valud you should be exempt but this point is a bit unclear especially for a second entry.
If they decide you can't enter for lack of approved insurance what they will usuallt do is give you a 30 day visa exempt entry which would at least give you time to get an aporoved pilicy. Assuming you are under 75 and have no major health problems you can then buy a local policy.
Cool, I think I will just leave things as they are for now and in September when my insurance is up for renewal I shall add the outpatient and sync it with my extension renewal date. Worst case scenario appears to be they issue me with a 30 day exempt visa on my return which would give me plenty of time to add outpatient to my existing policy.

I would have thought agents would rightly be very wary of falsifying documentation from public companies who will chase their behind in court for such practices when the s$£t hits the fan and it`s exposed.

Exactly, Get something such as my friend caught, Guillain Barre Syndrome, 5 months in hospital and 3 years of ongoing treatment, see what that does to your bank account if your not insured.

I have an O-A visa issued in London March 2019, before the insurance requirement cut off date. I have booked a trip to Cambodia to coincide with the expiry of the visa and will return in time to be stamped in for my one year extension. I actually have 5m baht cover with one of the recognised companies which expires in September but I opted to forgo outpatient cover as it gave me a 20% discount, meaning it doesn't fully conform to the new requirements. Do I need to bring the policy or certificate with me to show at immigration or do I even need it at all as my visa was issued before October 30th 2019 and I am therefore currently exempt. Im sure it already been asked in here but the thread is 137 pages long tia.
Secondly assuming I dont need to show insurance for my extension my plan is upon renewal of my insurance in September to purchase just to the expiry of my extension in March 2021 and from then on to purchase a years insurance every year at extension time.

Why wouldn`t you want health insurance, who`s going to pay if you need extensive treatment?

Personally I hope it doesn`t happen. Its not a bad area to chill out in the evening at the cocktail cars, there`s some nice small market stalls and other small businesses, my gym is there, I eat regularly at The Robin Hood and I live in Soi 15. Last thing I want is more loud music banging out, steroid freaks bouncing around like they own the place and it generally becoming a trashy area. But if it does go ahead I guess there are plenty of mugs who think their holiday can be turned into a permanent vacation by throwing money at a bar and thats what this group appears to be looking for.

Certainly Scott Griffiths isn`t an Indian. Him and his then ladyboy partner were once the subject of a Pattaya documentary when they had sensations bar. He then became the face of The Roof which is a bar that currently resides in the Avenue Mall and it looks like now he is the spokesman for this current consortium. If his past history is anything to go by, well.....Ummm.

Do you have a small insurance card? I was given one with my policy in Thailand and always have been. A summary of the cover is on mine and such detail is clear.
Yes I have the card

Sorry, just saw this.
Why will you extend rather than make a second entry? That's what people usually do on a new O-A visa, re-enter just before the visa expires and you get an additional 12 month stay. No need to meet the extension financial requirements.
As above might or might not need insurance doing that but this fact will becomke evident pretty soon.
You right Sheryl, it will in fact be April 2021 as I will be doing exactly that. Things should be pretty clear by then. I can`t see immigration asking for insurance at the airport or border.

Maybe bad news then as I recall someone posted a notice that they will be enforcing this on O-A based extensions and I think they want the Thai insurance. That could change tomorrow and it isn't even 31 October yet. You'll have to follow that. Also I'm surprised more people aren't mentioning this problem. Insurance policies are usually written based on ONE YEAR terms right? So your proof of insurance almost definitely won't be for the exact dates of your next extension unless you take great pains to make sure that it is. Seems to me a huge issue.
That`s the way I understand it too, my extension is in April but my policy will only have 6 months to run at that time. Not worried about the provider it is with Pacific Cross, one of the quoted companies. Guess we will just have to wait and see what happens over the next few months.

I`m six months into my first O-A visa which I acquired in London. Will I need insurance on my first extension application next April? I actually have 5m baht insurance and a relatively comprehensive policy but I have forgone outpatient cover in return for a 20% discount. One of the requirements is that outpatient is covered and therefore I would lose that discount. I`m wondering how they will police it, will they be able to read my full policy at immigration ?
-
My local GP did mine recently, took the blood tests and checked my records, charged me £30, signed and stamped the cert.
-
This is a question I have been wondering also as a new O-A holder. So if you have the re-entry permit there is no requirement to 90 day reporting ? What if one was to be in a different part of Thailand to their normal place of stay at reporting time, for example live in Bangkok but in Samui during reporting period, can you report at the local IO in Samui ?

It's May now before the online applications will start, until then, in person or by post.

Doubt it will be even then, I was aware just before I collected my visa and when I asked they said `Probably in May`

Jim - I am in the process of applying for the same visa - one of the boxes on the form asks for evidence substantiating your purpose of visit for NON-IMMIGRANT OR LONG STAY ONLY... I'm struggling what to put in this box - your help will be much appreciated - thanks - Chris
I didn`t fill that in either as I wasn`t sure but the girl at the embassy told me what to write. Bank statements, medical certificate, police certificate. So it`s just a list of the documentation you are supplying as required for the visa. Hope this answers your question Chris.

And non-OA's????
The Non O-A s are dealt with by submitting your documentation digitally, you are then given an appointment to attend and submit your documents in person and receive your visa, it`s all explained on the site and in other threads here. I am applying for mine this week before the new system comes in as I just know it`s going to leave me frustrated.

Pretty sure your bank statements alone will be fine, most people applying for the Non O-A in their early 50s have had no pension documentation in the past. Worst that might happen is they'd send you away for more documents. The advantage of doing it prior to the e-visa launch in April is you can just walk in with your application and documents and they vet them on the spot.
The extra £35 on an expedited police certificate is largely offset by the fact that the visa fee goes up by £25 in April, and losing a few months of use on the front end of the visa may be worth it for the peace of mind.
Yep thats exactly the way I looked at it as regards offsetting the police cost against the new visa cost and the peace of mind. The only downside is that if it doesn`t work I will have to deposit the 800k and my police record and medical will expire in the 3 months I have to season the account. In the past a lot of applicants just used the now defunct affidavit letters.
My rental income is just shy of the 65,000 alone, exchange rate ???? it`s more the fact the type of visa Im applying for I wondered if current salary was acceptable in addition, its just listed on my statements as `Operational`

Im thinking of applying for my Non Immigrant O-A visa this week in London before the online process goes live. I have no problem expediting the criminal record proof for the additional cost and getting my medical cert signed. I can provide the 6 months bank statements showing well in excess of 65,000 baht per month but none of it is from pensions. Do I have to prove the source of this income which is property rental and salary, if so will this be acceptable? Obviously I wont be earning any salary from work whilst in Thailand I will be retired by the time I leave the UK.
Can an agent submitted extension application not require health insurance for an O-A extension

I doubt it but your hospital treatment would be covered which would be the biggest part of the expense.
