Let me guess, you want to play the smart arse, but have no idea about the meaning of average.

Pad kana moo grop with rice and fried egg and a small bowl of clear soup B40 at my local roadside eatery. And it's the best pad kana I've eaten anywhere to date (I always order it when travelling, just to compare).
But I do believe that you don't live in a tourist centre, and that's where the OP is headed.
My comment was about the Pattaya area

A chicken steak that will be EXACTLY the same at an expensive restaurant or at a street restaurant still costs 40 thb.
It's obvious you have never eaten at an upscale restaurant

Notably Thai food prices have not increased too much in that time.
Excuse me, 10 years ago I could eat every roadside restaurant a fried rice chicken for 20 Baht, or a steamed rice with fried chicken and basil and fried egg on top for 25 Baht.
Try to find the same today at less than 100% more

I don't want to criticize, but how can someone live abroad without a "comfortable amount of money" quickly available in case of emergency?

Welcome to the world of those with less financial-resources. The question is, what should those folks sell to accomplish that 800K Thai bank-balance? Rental property, a business or other investments? And how to fill the hole in their income that results?
If Thailand wants more expats spending less money into the economy / being generally poorer, forcing this result would be one way to achieve that.
Thailand wants expats to spend more money in the economy, and the change may force the less financial strong expats to go back home.

afterall, the stamp & signature on the extension are real enough and if immigration have no scruples why should I ??
I remember more than 2 decades ago there was a shop in Pattaya, ran by an American called Jim and his wife Mae.
Few time I had seen an immigration officer, in uniform, sitting behind a desk stamping a heap of passports.
Sure he was using a real enough stamp and his uniform looked real enough as well.
Then one day Pattaya mail had a headline story, when Jim and Mae were busted, and many foreigners were in a lot of trouble............with their real enough looking stamp in their passports.

there is a big corruption problem with (only?) the lady who manages the transfer Tourist->Non-O
Is this the lady married to the Dutch guy?
If anyone thinks there is no corruption in Jomtien immigration, I know an officer who last year paid 3 million to get transferred here. He doesn't sit at a desk though.

You could start with reading the OP
The Review Officer told us that the Immigration Office operations staff was also frustrated because no one had been provided ANY information beyond the summary statement that the income affidavit would not be accepted after 1 January 2019.

The letters are valid for 6 months after date of issue. I have seen a number of posts that indicate that IOs will continue to accept them during this period. It's also written into TI regs, which has also been posted a number of times.
And all your claims will be valid until the day the Thai immigration regs are changed, which actually can happen on 31 December.

In my more than 2 decades dealing with immigration I have never experienced a corrupt officer......or should I say I never have needed one because i always did it by the rules.

Yes, you missed a bit of compassion, common sense. The IO will now have to work the same again so rather than being sensible, has cut their nose to spite their face...happens all the time in land of S***
from your comment I believe that you are one of those people who also consider traffic light only little bit red yet to be acceptable.

I can't understand how they can sustain such a growth.
Here in Pattaya they have literally a shop with 20 trucks in front on every corner, and one between every corner as well, a bit like 7/11.
Those trucks cost a lot of money, and the driver also has to be paid.
For sure they give the Thai post a run for it's money. My friend sent a small package from Pattaya to Bangkok, at a cost of 70 Baht, and it was delivered 5 hours later.
How do you pay such an expansion at those rates.
By the way, they don't do international shipping from Thailand, but they use DHL for that.

Hopefully the day will come again when I can confess to being an American in polite circles..
Don't worry, just don't tell them you're a lefty, and things should work out well.
Tell them you're a Trump supporter, and you might as well be the star of the bahtbus.

I argued with DHL and customs etc for a month and in the end I refused the item and so they just loaded it over the fence and left it at my house, end of issue. (No payment made)
Haha, I had a similar issue with Fedex with tv boxes for which they wanted the NBTC license.
You can't get the license once the item is in Thailand, so they wanted big money to make the issue go away.
I literally told them to put the boxes where the sun doesn't shine.
About 3 weeks later i think the boxes were delivered at my home without any money paid

I'm not talking about stuff going missing and never have.
I'm talking about excess charges (for nothing) and excess valuations.
This is the problem with couriers in TH with large items or high valuation parcels.
It does not happen with the Thai PO.
Items valued above 1500 baht sent by Thai post also get duty charges.
And they don't call you upfront

you are very free to assume what you like
don't understand why you say as told last year, same story no difference,
its a door delivery, the uk postal system uses a courier company for handling
the affairs after arrival in Thailand
everything taken care of by courier I just supply data and signatures on their request
similar story supposed to mean?
The reason it took that long is because the necessary and correct documents didn't come with the shipment, so you had to provide them.
I suspect similar reasons for the DHL shipments not arriving. Every shipping company can make mistakes, not delivering 9 parcels in line when the correct address and documents are provided is simply impossible.
I also notice from your thread that 2 weeks after the shipment arrived you posted that it would be cleared next Tuesday/ Wednesday and then stopped posting, so I assume it was cleared on that day .
Not really 1 month and 2 days, is it.

Why did it take a month to clear customs ? Were they waiting for documentation or did it just sit there doing nothing ?
4 hours ago, melvinmelvin said:have no idea why it took more than a month to deliver,
Why not tell the real story, as you posted it August 5 2017?
The NINE missing parcels from DHL I presume have a similar story attached

So you claim to have had 9 items shipped by DHL, and never heard anything from any of the 9 shipments?
Something missing in your story there

I did not write that in Thailand is everything perfect, but as far as I know the government here is not killing thousands of people.
You must have missed the news about the thousands of drug suspects being killed, same as what is going on now in the Philippines, under Thaksin
