maybe the bins could have had solid sides

They really need solid sides but even with solid sides the design doesn't work because the rubbish collectors can't get the rubbish out.  None of those guys are going to be taking the time to pick out single items of trash by hand, and you can't expect them to.

They're designed only for bags, which would be easy to pull out.  But that was never going to work.  Better if they use actual bins.

Let's just be thankful they are throwing the rubbish into the bins and not onto the pavement - or elsewhere

But they are in effect throwing it onto the pavement, aren't they.  That's the problem.  A few rats, a cat or a dog, or a bit of wind and that pile will be all over the road by morning.

Very convenient to use in the Skytrain in Bangkok. Even had a discount last month on the rides.

The only discount you get on the BTS (unless you're old or a student) is 1 baht per ride.

Most of the MacDonald's seem to have only 1 rabbit terminal only, what happens when you queue at the wrong till?

This is a problem at Tesco Express stores too.  They only have one or two checkouts that accept the Rabbit Cards.  So queue up at the wrong till and you either have to pay cash or queue up again.  You can look at the checkouts first to see if they have the terminal at the one you want to queue at.  If you use the same store day after day you soon remember which to queue at.

How does it work? You buy the card at McDonald's and top it up where?

Buy it at the ticket counter at any BTS station, and top it up at the same place.  No idea about Chiang Mai or Phuket.

I think you mistyped that. You meant, "But most islands release untreated sewage into the sea".

No I meant treated, as in the sense that most of it is left in a tank and the sewage sinks to the bottom.  The rest is released into the sea as greywater/brownwater or whatever it's called and only the remaining solid particles are disposed of 'properly'.  I suppose you could call that untreated depending on your definition of what treatment is.

  5. If you don't want to swim on beaches that might be contaminated with surface run off from urban areas then really you should be avoiding Phuket because there is simply too much development and too many people and too much traffic on the island.  But most islands release treated sewage into the sea, even the national park islands like Koh Surin have pipes leading from waste tanks straight onto the beach.

So then you're limited to off the beaten path destinations where there is little tourist infrastructure, but most tourists want their 5 star hotel and massage and night market.

Organic matter makes water black, sometimes it's natural but in this case I'll go with the following definition:

"Blackwater is any waste from toilets or urinals. It is defined either as treated or untreated (raw), and contains disease-causing bacteria and viruses that can result in human illness from direct contact, or by consumption of affected fish and shellfish."

Blackwater is not necessarily black that's just the name for it.  Even if the entire area's waste was released into the same drain it wouldn't be enough to turn a huge amount of rainwater black, like in the videos above.  There might be some human waste in there sure, but that's not the reason for the colour.

  7. Your original post was Feb 24th but if I remember right that's not 2 months within the justice system because he was out on bail for most of it?

How much did you pay in total, from start to finish?

I remember in your first thread a lot of people were advocating not paying a large bribe and just letting it work its way through the system, it sounds as though that was the way to go in terms of paying the least amount of money, but perhaps not in terms of time taken - most people wouldn't want to be stuck in Thailand for 2 months without a passport.

Surprised to learn he is blacklisted for life, especially with such a small fine.

  8. I think there's a difference between getting involved in a dispute and getting involved when somebody collapses and is heaving on the floor.  I think  people and especially farang being held responsible for medical bills is largely barstool talk although I did read an article that was highlighting this issue in China, people are reluctant to help there because they worry they will have to cover the hospital bills, supposedly.

This thread was considering the possibility of somebody collapsing with nobody else around to help.  In that situation a a human being I have to assist them and it wouldn't occur to me to just walk past.

I would suggest you enroll on a basic first aid course.

They are usually just one day and then will have a good idea of what to do.  The previous times both were strangers, what if it had been a friend or relative ?  You would really want to help in some way.

With Youtube and suchlike I really don't see the need to pay anybody any money for courses (of any type) in 2018, unless you want a paper qualification I guess.

I was really just looking for a diagnosis on what happened to the woman.  I suppose I should take my own advice and go and look on youtube.

...Open-minded isn't an antonym of stupid.  I'm not sure where you're going with that.

And yes i say "my country" because that is what people say when refering to the country in which they were either born raised and feel attached to its culture or history.

So by your own logic it is also his country, isn't it.  He was born or raised there.

Can you tell me why all the bigots on this forum cannot spell?  Why their arguments are so easily picked apart?  Why do I never see an intelligent/educated racist?  It's not okay to be a bigot with the opportunities that you were provided in life; educate yourself.

I obviously gave them my number because I'm a witness, I saw the whole thing. Damn you are daft.

They don't want or need or care about 'witnesses'.  Hence why you were summarily dismissed.  Witnesses are only necessary when a case goes to court, which this never in a million years will.

There is no justification to beat and scare a woman to point where she fears for her life.

She didn't fear for her life she was sobbing because her boyfriend was mad at her.  This is normal in Thai society.  Domestic abuse is tolerated.  You're using melodramatic words like kidnapping and you've spent too much time in the west where helping damsels in distress is considered noble.

The appropriate thing to have done in the situation was to calmly walk over, be friendly with the guy and ask (in Thai) if he can please calm down and give his girlfriend a break.  Then walk away and get on with your life.
