  1. I had previously posted that when contacting the US embassy and consulate about getting a notarization of intent to renounce citizenship, that their answer was that they are not authorized to provided such a notarization.  (I asked a number of times to clarify at both the embassy and consulate)

So today I went and tried my luck anyways at the consulate here in Chiang Mai.  I presented them with the two letters, intent to renounce and sui juiris.

I am happy to report that the consul signed both letters without asking any questions.  (I don't think he actually read what was in the letters.)  He just asked me what was in the documents.  I said documents for my Thai nationality application.

I'm not so sure about that. After the coup they cleaned up the citizenship process and it speeded up considerably. One of the few positive things I can say about that. Hopefully, it will remain more streamlined for you new applicants.

Thanks, I waited 8 years for them to process my PR application. If they can cut that time in half for Citizenship I will be happy.  55555

Are you working with sb in bkk?

My friend applied around nov 2020 and already finished the NIA  interview didn't mention any problems

No I'm working with SB in Chiang Mai.  Thank you that is encouraging I just need to find out what people are doing to get around the embassy's not signing the renunciation letter.  That's pretty quick I think things might take longer up here in Chiang Mai 5555.

If I can't find a way out of this here in Chiang Mai then I will try my luck at the embassy where there's a lot more officials and some may not know or care about the official policy about renunciation letters.

  4. Has any american in the past year been able to obtain a renounciation letter from the embassy or consulate? Special Branch Chiang Mai informed me today that famous youtuber Udom Suksanaih was also rejected  trying to get a renoucination letter from the Chiang Mai consulate, but because of his connections at the Interior ministry was able to get a waver.  I don't have any connections 5555.  Any suggestions?

I sent you a copy of mine via pm maybe the new administration stopped them

According to the email response, they never did them 55555.   I have contacted Special Branch Police and they are aware of this for some reason and informed me that I would need a letter from them to get the notorized letter.  But I must first submit my application.   I have an appointment with the consulate on the 15th and will try my luck with the example you have provided.

    Thanks for your help

  6. I mentioned that many persons have gotten suck a letter from the embassy and asked them if they changed their policy recently and this is the reply:

Our process has not changed. The U.S. Embassy is not authorized to provide a notary stating that you intend to renounce your citizenship. We do not have templates and are not generally involved in the Thai citizenship approval process. If you would like a notary, please make an appointment through our website, however, as stated above, we cannot notarize a statement with intent to relinquish U.S. citizenship.

you might email the bkk embassy and see what they say

Unfortunately this is the reply I got from the Embasy:

Our office can provide notary services, however, we are not able to provide a notary for intent to renounce U.S. citizenship. Please contact the appropriate Thai authority Amphur for requirements.

Years ago when me and my American friend started the process, I posted the templates that he used on for the US Embassy.  I don't know if they are applicable today or not.  My experience at my Embassy was similar with @onthemoon so I can't tell you much about the American Embassy except what I have been told.

The funny thing about the US Embassy from what I have heard is that you can fill out a generic affidavit saying that you graduated from university on so and so day, or that you have no criminal record, or that you like to wear pink underwear... and they will sign it and stamp it (embossed) for a flat rate of 50 USD per page. The especially strange part about it is that the Thai authorities generally accept such documentation as official without question.  He explained to me that the US Embassy will not issue any sort of documentation certifying any vital details for you, the only method you can use is an affidavit form.  I'm glad that my Embassy was more helpful than the Americans

My friend told me that he actually combined a few statements like his passport details and no criminal record and "of age" details all on the same affidavit.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you this was  helpful, unfortunately the Chiang Mai consulate is no longer ansering the phone and my email equiry was replied with forms to start the process for renounciation of citizenship and $2300 for processing fee.  As per Yankee 99 I asked about such a template and was given a link to existing templates which only included a blank and  mariage affidavit.   I will ask while I am there maybe they have them available for printing eventhough they are not on the website.   Is Sui Juris simply a document that states that I am an adult over 20 years of age?

I discussed it with my embassy here in Bangkok at the time, and they were very familiar with the requirement.

I didn't write a letter for them to notarise, they wrote a letter on embassy stationary, stamped and signed, stating that I had confirmed that I intend to renounce my original nationality when I receive Thai citizenship. They even had a standard letter on their computer into which they only wrote my personal details, all the wording was there.

Thanks I will contact the Chiang Mai consulate to see if they provide the same service.

  10. One of the requirements for citizenship is Being sui juris under Thai law and the law on which the person has nationality.   I am assuming that I need to create a document to be notorized by the US consulate in Chiang Mai?
Does anyone know what  the key words are that need to be included to be deemed a valid document.

    Also regarding renunciation of citizenship.

Would something like this be acceptable:

    to: Consul General, Chiang Mai

My name is xxxxxx, USA Passport # xxxxxxx Born on xxxxxx.  I have lived in Thailand since xxxx and presently live at xxxxxx

I xxxxx hereby declare my intention to renounce my USA nationality following my naturalisation as a Thai national

    xxxxxxxx
    Signature

    Thank you in advance

Also:  What is your PSA, by the way?  That is why you think you need a scan (needle biopsy or mp MRI), right?  Don't waste your time with a needle biopsy...that's ancient.  mpMRI is highly accurate.  Also needle biopsies were prone to 1% patients who got an infection, in which case it's very nasty.  Keep in mind the 52k price at Bumrungrad.  My urologist doctor at Bumrungrad, by the way, was...let's just say I will never go back to him.  We almost got into a shouting session.  Ha!  I really like the other doctors I have had at that hospital.  I was diagnosed with PCa 15 years ago, went 11 years of Active Surveillance, then had targeted cryo ablation.  I chose the wrong doctor there at Bumrungrad.  My mistake.  He had no fellowships at any American hospitals nor other reputable places (Germany, S Korea), like almost all the other doctors did.  Enough said.  Good luck.

Thank you for the very useful information.

My PSA level was 8.2 and my local doctor wanted to do a needle biopsy.

Luckily I refused basically because the size of my prostate was double the size of a regular prostate by volume.

Which would make it normal for the PSA level to be 8 or so. Also the fact that my dad had a similar trajectory at my age he now has a PSA of 13.

I ended up trying finisteride and after about three to four months my PSA level went down to around 4.

Note that I didn't take the regular dose of 5mg of finasteride instead I took .2 mg and still got the same good result.

I didn't see this. I only saw the donation at a temple. Which part of the moat is this?

    P. Massage is not on the moat they are near the night bazar you can look them up on google maps.  As to where they actually gave out the food, I am not sure what part of the moat it is I guess just follow the video.  A friend did say near the Chinese Consulate.

Not a temple.  I saw the video of people queing around the moat. https://www.sanook.com/news/8081874/I then contacted the person behind the private effort to give out food.  He would not take money so I brought him a trunk full of food. delivered at P. Massage house.  There were a bunch of people there packing food to be handed out today I think.

  14. I think all these new rules are quite sensible under the circumstances.  I flew on air asia a few weeks ago and they were already leaving the middle seat empty.  Most planes are 3x3x3 seating.  So that is only 1/3 loss of seating which should only result in 1/3 increase in price.  I personally don't think they will increase prices as they are trying to get their customers back.

Me too. How do you know when the filter needs replacement? Is there something in the machine counting its hours used, or measuring amount of contaminate accumulated? Otherwise, I guess I'll just replace at the beginning of every new burn season...

If you use the app it will tell you how many hours are left on the filter.

when purchasing new filters I recommend you purchase the black gray ones the new ones h13 which means they filter out Much finer particles.

    It’s a good topic.

I run my own business and as a director I’m not eligible. I’m thinking of putting myself down as an employee of a friends company and get into the SS system that way.

I’ll essentially pay it. His company can invoice mine, and then his company pays me a salary with SS deductions made. Do this for 6 months or a year whatever the minimum time needed is, ‘quit’ the job and then continue to make voluntary contributions.

We have good private insurance and always intend to do so, but having the SS as a back up isn’t a bad thing.

I am director of my own company and have been paying for more than 15 years and have used the SS system for free hospital visits a number of times.  Have the rules changed?
