Just broken my existing progressive glasses I bought from a rather overpriced Thai chain shop, so wanted the same order online from Zenni who charge about a quarter the price.

** As I am not experienced can someone tell me if I got the prescription correctly input please? The first (Duna) image above is from Thai shop and works well for me. Below that is what I input on Zenni. The PD of 66 seems to be a carry over from some reading glasses I had from Zenni but the Duna card does not mention PD at all so I left it at 66 on Zenni. So did I get it all OK and I can go ahead with order?

    Thanks

They are shipping my order to Thailand now - shipping cost is 9USD. I have used them for reading glasses for several years and shipped to Thailand. Takes about 14 days from order to front door delivery. There was a slight delay during the pandemic.

I had my Zenni's sent to my sister in Ohio, USA, then DHL to me here. DHL took her for a ride, charging $189 to ship. Then DHL Tailand wanted a slice of the pie, but I told them no way. They eventually dropped the charges.  Too bad the prescription turned out to be garbage.  PD should carry over from an earlier script. That's the distance between your pupils. That should not change.

  2. I can't even order from Aliexpress. It always says my account is having issues. I can't send them a message or a chat without it burping up more issues.

Once I did ask about riding lawnmowers, and I got bombarded from sellers in India. For the same mower, I was quoted 19,000 thb and 65,000 thb, among others. I passed.

Lazada  or Shoppee. or local if at all possible.

How is this extortion? Sounds more like a import duty/tax.

    There are ways to contest the fee;

    1. The recipients/consignees wishing to object to Customs valuation or request duty and tax exemption are required to follow the steps below:
      1. The consignee complete and submit Request Form (available at post offices and www.postalcustoms.com) along with the notification and relevant documents such as evidences for purchase and receipts to the designated post office. Duty and tax payment is not required at this stage.
      2. The post office hands over the parcel and all documents received to Customs
      3. Customs Service Division responsible for post informs the result of consideration to the relevant post office so that it could inform the consignee accordingly. The consignee may decide on one of the following options:
        • Be informed of the result by Thailand Post and pick up the goods at the post office indicated in the notification
        • Request to be informed of the result and pick up the goods at Parcel Screening and Examination Sub-division, Postal Customs Service Division, EMS Centre Building, Soi Chang Wattana 5, Chaengwattana Road, Laksi, Bangkok

Glasses are two years old. No receipts. The post office does not have them, D$L does. 5 hour drive to fight with customs is not worth it.

If you import items into Thailand you have to pay customs duty and VAT on them. You should expect this on an international shipment. This is what the shipper is asking you to pay, plus a small service fee to handle the transaction. This is not extortion but government taxes you pay on imports, particularly if you ship via an express service. If you ship by the post office, then taxes are normally waived below a certain value, but it would take a long time. What value did the person shipping the glasses to you declare for the shipment? Thai Customs will normally charge taxes on this plus on the shipping cost. You can get an itemised list of the charges from the shipper's web site if you look

My sister declared a value of $150 USD. She said DHL there told here to make it $200 for reasons unknown to me.

Anytime I have something shipped via D$L, it gets re-routed to customs a second time after arrival, and 3 out of 4 times, gets a duty or tax added.  I am paying fees to D$L, not customs.  I am also paying import-export duty, and Duty Tax receiver. When I use the post office, 1 out of 10 times.  And. D$L says it is confidential, not to tell anyone. Ha! Wonder why? They are telling me the forms did not say for personal use. Prescription glasses are for something else?

  5. I was sent the other day some glasses I forgot and left at my families home in the US. They were sent via D**.  Paid in full at the time of shipping.

Tracking shows clearing the customs in Thailand then being ready to ship to me at my home in Thailand.

Then on the day of expected delivery, I get an email from D**, that they need more money for "services", to the tune of 1,025 THB.

I thought extortion was illegal here?  This is the 2nd time this shipper has asked for extra funds for services.

As a consumer, do I have any rights or should I process this legally? Or suck it up as another screw job?

    Thanks

  6. Once in Phimai, there are a few taxis  in the center of town at the clock tower, which is a stones throw from the ancient temple. The bus station is a few blocks away.

You can get off the bus at the clock tower if you tell the driver before hand. Elsewhere in Phimai finding a taxi is not very likely.

  7. Last week week I had received a small item from Lazada, but the wrong item. The seller refunded the 225 baht. Lazada said they put it in the "Lazada Wallet". I tried to take the money out, but they emailed the rules, which say only Thai people can get the refund. This happened to me a few years back. After I contested the rule, they told me they need a copy of my bankbook and passport, the numbers were not enough, they needed a digital copy. So it eventually happened, I got my refund accepted, to be sent to my bank (eventually). Today I am shopping at Shopee.

Imported a new Fender Tele last year shipped from USA via FedX. Wow what an ordeal. Purchased for $3300.00 and had $800 import fee. Many forms. Then there was what kind of wood was it made of which I thought they were gonna reject the import. Emails, questions, forms times 5.

Went back to USA, boxed up 2 of my other guitars and checked em in on the plane no problems no questions. My experiences.

Many times if you use FedEx or DHL, they go right to customs and you end up with crazy extra charges. I have brought bagpipes from Scotland via Fedex, value of about $1000 USD on a good day. They went right to customs, (for a week), accessed a charge of $400 USD.

Anytime I've had to deal with Fedex, the charges were over the top on items coming in.

I have hand carried in bagpipes and never got questioned.

  9. "Wifes mum has severe cancer and is in hospital, she cant poo or pee by herself and her kidneys have shut down now as well,  they want us to take her home to take care of her ."

Most hospitals I assume will give the home patient a morphine drip or equivalent to stop or minimize pain, and show you how to maintain it, as well as come by to check on the patient. That's how I have seen it done in Nakhon ratchasima.  From my experience, they give enough to keep the patient in a "near-coma" like state.

Cancer here is real common and is usually not caught until late stage 4. When symptoms occur, it is usually too late to stop it. Unless you have big money for treatments that might give a little extra time only. Weeks, not years.

  10. I went about 6 years ago. Loved it. I hired the tuk tuk driver who hung out at the hotel for three days. I think he asked $20 a day for three days.

He would meet me at the hotel at 7 am, and I had him take me to the temples. He was available all day. He would park and wait while I was sight-seeing.

In town, the restaurants would only take USD, and it had to be crisp unfolded. It got so nuts I verified my money was usable BEFORE I ate.  If you eat at the hotels, it is normal to put it on the bill or pay cash, and not such a requirement to have perfect money. Same with the shops, dollars preferred if big ticket items.

I spent 3 days, and went to the smaller temples first and had them mostly all to myself. There are 8 or 9 very cool ones in the complex. Outside the complex there are 20 or more that are un-restored and very cool. The main building is busy all day, and sunsets there are fair, nothing to "must-see", though a few thousand were at the big building at sunset.

  11. All they need to do is look locally. I would bet every village has at least a few people making charcoal. One small operation can fill the entire village and then some with smoke that can last all day and night. Our small village currently has 4 major burn operations. Only after many hours of work behind the scenes did we get the local government, NOT the village lead, to do something. At least we got the smokers inside the village to stop (most of the time). Now we can breath. This village also has a history of cancer deaths that would scare anyone. No one seems to care.
