  1. Have to echo your experience. My recent annual extension much to my great surprise was much simpler!
  2. Many thanks for your thoughts and so sorry to hear about your consequential problems. I hope that you are at least now stable and in remission 🙏 My last scan had it a low ebb, so I was recommended 3 to 5 years for next scan and I'm a few months inside that window. I am certainly fully aware of potential problems and do try to stay on top of this. As you rightly say better to err on the conservative proactive side. I'll be better set moving forward for subsequent checks once I have this done for the first time in Thailand. Failing any recommendations, I will probably start with Bangkok Pattaya next week and see what they quote. Very best wishes with your progress moving forward 🙏
  3. Unfortunately, I've had Barretts Esophagus for quite some time and I'm due for a 5 year check via endoscopy. I am in the Pattaya area and am looking for a reasonable compromise between competence and cost. As a pre-existing condition, I will have to pay for it, but don't want to replicate the experience I had with the NHS where an incompetent 'specialist' in Ayr failed to even see it. I then needed to have it done privately by a genuine expert. I do prefer to be out for the count when done, so any experiences or recommendations, greatly appreciated. I have no interest in a colonoscopy or other procedure being done at the same time. Many thanks for your consideration.
  4. Yes, that's what I was aiming for, but he didn't respond, so went myself. I will detail that experience separately, but suffice it to say, it was enough to ensure trying the online 15 days before to give me time for resubmissions and for my agent to respond, if needed. Never had problems before online. So hoping this is not my new normal. I am happy to pay to not waste time on this asean phenomenon.
  5. That was my understanding too, but he did do 90 day in this instance. Thanks for confirming that was unnecessary.
  6. That's good to know. I'd always done it online. I got back to Jomtien from the UK in February and thought I had 90 days before my next registration. A few weeks later, my agent said I should have gone immediately to immigration to file. I don't know if that was right, but I paid him a small sum to go and sort that out. Now on the next renewal my online registration was rejected and said, go to immigration immediately. I've still got a few days left, but I can't be bothered to waste a bunch of time form filling/queing up/waiting and money on all the paper work. If it's not a big fee, I'd prefer to pay him to go. Although pretty pissed off about it. However, if that comes up on my next online report as well, I'll certainly go down.
  7. Here is the uk government petition for equal pensions: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/642749#:~:text=Petition Give 500%2C000 UK overseas,as other state pension recipients.
  8. For those UK expats who receive the UK state pension and are happy that their pension remains frozen with no annual increase, unlike UK and Euro residents and like to throw money away, no need to read further. If however you feel you should get that increase, then you should sign the petition to the UK government asking to be treated equally. I don't know if I can paste the link, so I will do that in the next post. If you don't see that, Google the following paragraph: Give 500,000 UK overseas State Pensioners with frozen pensions parity Thank you
  9. 100% agree. Keep your options open, rent for a year ideally furnished, get a visa for a year and see how it is. In the worst case, if things go pear shaped early, go back to Oz and rent a place till you can move back into your home there.
  10. Actually, the air crossings are relatively unlimited whereas Lao land crossings can only be done twice in a calendar year. Either way, make sure you have $35 for the arrival fee. It was the cheapest way to pay. If you're looking for a nice bar and food overlooking the Mekong, Bor Pen Yang is a good place to go with a nice elevated view.
  11. Friday @ City Hospital, but only in the morning and 1300B for foreigners. I believe that Bang Lamung does them most days, certainly was including Saturday.
  12. Agreed and that reason is often given without justification and cannot be challenged. I would love to know the official percentage of SE Asian visitors to the west travelling with a long time partner, who stay illegally The reality is that a lot of these decisions are made for the UK by non British nationals working in India who have a maximum quota of people they can allow in or lose their job. In fact, my nephew could not get a visa to visit with his gf and ended up getting a fiance visa to marry and live in uk, which ridiculously was easier to get. It wasn't long before his wife missed Thailand too much and they returned to Thailand.
  13. How about the novel idea of legal controlled gambling? In UK Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs collected £2.9 billion in gaming-related duty in the 2017-18 fiscal year alone
  14. Thanks, but it should just be a transfer of the existing chanote as I assumed it was the same as a normal land purchase and transfer, there was no question of the boundaries. Did your gf have to go down to the land office each time there was a question?
  15. Hello, My gf recently bought a small, relatively inexpensive piece of land at the official province auction for bankruptcies. Paid at the state office and received all the official documents from the lender and office releasing the land and noting that it had been official purchased at the said Province auction. She quickly went to the Land Registry office, received another batch of documents that had to signed and approved by some official in the town, which was done and returned to the Land Office. They said that it would be processed and that they would call when the Chanote (yes was a chanote before) was ready to be picked up. That was over 3 months ago and the only response that she has gotten back is to be patient and that it could be more than a year! That left me incredulous for what seemed like a relatively straighforward official conducted purchase. Has anyone else gone through something like this or have any info on how long she might have to wait to get the chanote? Thanks!
