You are very confused.
The "60 day to visit wife" is a 60 day extension
Your friend could do a border bounce and enter visa exempt and be given a 30 stamp and that can be extended by 60 to visit wife.
He could do that twice per calendar year.
So 30+60 and repeat= 180days.
A better option (depending on how long he wants to stay) is posted by @aluc above
Even better news!
The 30 + 60 can then be extended by an addition 30 days ( 30 + 60 + 30 = 120 Days in country )This is offered and provided at every Immigration Office ????
I do this as often as I require.....
Means that you only have to leave Thailand 3 times per year Max....

Looking at purchasing a Brand New Vechicle.
Have been around a few Dealerships ( Toyota \ Ford & Isuzu in Korat )
They only appear to offer their List Price.....
Wife asks for discount with Cash or for Special Pricing but gets blank looks or No no this price pointing at List Price.
Any pointers how to deal with a Thai Car Dealership and be able to Negotiate a stupid high price lower???
Thanks in advance.....

Why didn't you tell them when you was there?
Fair question..
Only realized once I arrived home and scanned it into the PC!!- 1

I had the same request for a TIN recently from First Direct bank in the UK.
As I was staying in Thailand on visa exempt and extensions ( and not a citizen or resident ) they eventually accepted that I was UK based.....

Although each entry on that multi-entry visa allows another 60 days extension for 'wife visit', so in fact it's actually 150 days.
One 60-day extension per entry.
For me personally, I regard having to go out after nigh on 5 months as an opportunity to have a break/holiday/explore outside of Thailand, rather than seeing it solely as a visa run chore, but we all see things somewhat differently no doubt.
Extending the the MEV by 60 days was something I had never considered 'doable'
Would it be possible to then further get a 30 day extension too? -

Yes one 60 day extension to visit wife per entry.
Forget the 180 day limit.
No such thing.
And that initial 60 day extension can then be extended for a further 30 days ( once only )

They have gone up but it's better to pay in dollars. For a UK passport it's now $40 (1345 baht).
Thanks for the report. Did you see much in the way of public transport as you passed?
Yes.
There is the Bus from Ubon to Paske.
Also a few Mini Vans around again Border to Ubon.
Also many Touts around the exit on the Thai side offering a lift here or there etc....

Chonk Mek - Border Bounce - Report....
So drove to Chong Mek Border from Korat.Using a UK passport.
Parking was tight around the border point however took the last parking space on the main drag.>> Departed Thai Immigration - no question \ no issues at all.
>> On the Laos side - visited the Visa on Arrival counter
Had form pre-printed and already completed
It was a Sunday and the requested amount in Thai Baht was 2,000
Asked why so expensive and was told prices have gone up
Sticker put in passport and proceeded through Laos immigration
>> Went straight back to Laos DeparturesNo question \ no issues - the man just said 'you go back now?'
>> Entered Thai immigration entry point
Fingerprints and a TM6 form had to be filled in ( do not know why need for TM6 )
Again no issues \ no questions - was given the expected 45 day stamp
>> All in took 50 minutes as it was our 1st visit at Chong Mek
It was easy please, smiles from officials on both sides all the way.
Would definitely use this location for a Border Bounce again.

No time to go and get Jabbed now, if you are not already Jabbed.
The new rules will last at least until the end of January 2023.

If transferring using Wise, select reason Long Term at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Then the transfer will be documented as an international transfer in your Thai bank account.
Anyone else noticed that TransferWise UK > Thailand now takes till next working day?
A few weeks back it was 7 seconds!Anything to do with UK change to Winter time?

Looking \ planning to do a Border Bounce next month at Chong Mek.
Any feedback from anybody that has recently been across just for a new 45 day stamp? -
Yes. Your logic and planning is correct ????

Since you do not need a Lao visa on arrival another option is the Chong Mek crossing here in Ubon Ratchathani that is about 90 km from the airport. Plenty of flights per day from Bangkok to Ubon.
There are vans available at the airport or you can go to the bus station.
No bridge to cross. Just walk from Thai immigration to the Lao side of things
UJ,
I require to do a 'Border Bounce' early in 2023.
Nong Khai, Mukdahan and also Chong Mek ( which I had never considered ) are all 5 hours away from my home, so from what you wrote about Chong Mek sounds an attractive option!- What are the parking options\ parking charges at Chong Mek?
- No Bridge and no Buses also makes it sound like a care free option.
- Are there any 'extra charges' levied by immigration staff at either side at Chong Mek?
- Ubon is always a great place to stop off for a night or two...

Not with Wise, but I'm told Dee Money, a government approved company, can do it. I've never used it though.
Have used Dee Money many times = THB to GBP
Works 'sweet as'...
Funds normally appear +1 day after Thai side initiation of Transfer.

That depends on the office and or the officer accepting the application.
Just stating the standard procedure immigration does.

You will have to apply for the normal 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry before applying for the 60 day extension.
You wife will need to be with you when you apply for the 60 day extension
Marriage certificate plus a copy of it. Some office may also want a copy of the Kor Ror 2 marriage registry.
Signed copies of your wife's ID card and house book registry.
Copy of your passport photo page and entry stamp.
Not striclty true about 30 day first.
Just last week extended ( on Married to a Thai basis ) from Visa Exempt entry to 60 days.
Yes the Immigration Officer suggested you can do 30 + 60 however explained only needed 50 days becuase leaving Thailand and no further questions.
60 days issued from a visa exempt.
Hope this assists.
A second 60 day extension to visit wife.
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

I would enter Thailand ( from Sweden ) on Visa Waiver - 30 Days
Then go to Immigration within those first 30 Days and apply for 90 day Visa which will give you time to season funds.
Then in the last 30 Days go back to Immigration and get the one Year Non O Visa for 12 months.
