In 5 months time I have to go to UK mate..parts of it look like Arab country.  Whilst English women walk about like fatted prostitutes.

Its all part of the moral decline of the west.

I guess I'm getting too old.

Moral decline? In '60s girls went braless under see-through tops; in '70s disco chicks were a dime a dozen; in '80s granny gowns and AIDS hysteria took over; in '90s Christmas office parties were banned; in '00s it became a crime to look at a woman coworker; and now just asking a woman out to coffee who declines is, on the face of it, "an unwanted sexual advance" and you are on a sex registry for life. And you want to encourage more of that? "Let a little sunshine in", at least in Thailand!

You need to show proof of onward travel within the 60 day visa period.

I never have needed that in 20 years and 30 arrivals. I always have a return flight out in 59 days for visa exemption on arrival, and 89 days on Tourist Visa. Questioned when flight out is later than that and said I'm planning a visa run by bus. Always let in. Lucky?

I have been subject to behaviour by women to me that at the current rate of disclosure where even a suggestive wink seems to constitute sexual harassment I have been sexually harassed. I wonder how many women are guilty of this????

Under current norms I have been raped twice by women and sexually abused another time. Passed out or sick from alcohol on a few rare occasions, these women proceeded with their wishes despite repeated pleas to go away. Note: why is it, in these times of total equality, that if two people each have a few drinks and engage in consensual sex that only the woman can change her mind the next day and claim rape. Somehow she can't think straight after a couple drinks but he can? He is the superior being? Isn't that sexist?

Note II: If you Tweet to ask a coworker out for coffee and she declines, that, on its face, marks an unwanted advance and its on record. It also proves that sometime during your career you must have looked at her. Be prepared to lose your job, your house, your career, your freedom, your pension, your dog.

An employer or boss should never be allowed to demand sexual favors for employment or promotion. I am just pointing out where these new rules have gone too far. Nice guys follow all rules and keep their distance. The guys who could care less about rules are the majority of those still interacting with women. And now women ask: "Where have all the good guys gone?"

Yes, they could charge up to 2,000 baht under the law. TM.30 reporting is supposed to track the whereabouts of each foreigner. When you arrive at a hotel/residence someone is supposed to report you've arrived, but they don't report that you have left. It's the responsibility of someone at the next address to report you've arrived (moved on), and so on.

They can insist that someone at the property a foreigner lives at makes a report every time they return from staying at another address in the country. Most offices don't enforce the law in full.

Here is the law concerning address reporting:

    Immigration Act

Section 37 : An alien having received a temporary entry permit into the Kingdom must comply with the following :

    1. Shall not engage in the occupation or temporary or employment unless authorized by the Director General. or competent official deputized by the Director General . If , in any case , there is a law concerning alien employment provided hereafter , the granting of work privileges must comply with the law concerned.

    2. Shall stay at the place as indicated to the competent official. Where there is proper reason that he cannot stay at the place as indicated to the competent official, he shall notify the competent official of the change in residence , within 24 hours from the time of removing to said place.

    3. Shall notify the police official of the local police station where such alien resides, within twenty – four hours from the time of arrival. In the case of change in residence in which new residence is not located the same area with the former police stations , such alien must notify the police official of the police station for that area within twenty – four hours from the time of arrival.

    4. If the alien travels to any province and will stay there longer than twenty – four hours , such alien must notify the police official of the police station for that area within forty – eight hours from the time of arrival.

    5. If the alien stays in the Kingdom longer than ninety days, such alien must notify the competent official at the Immigration Division , in writing , concerning his place of stay , as soon as possible upon expiration of ninety days. The alien is required to do so every ninety days. Where there is an Immigration Office , the alien may notify a competent Immigration Official of that office.

The provision of ( 3 ) and ( 4 ) shall not apply to any cases under Section 34 by any conditions as prescribed by the Director General.

In making notification under this Section , the alien may make notification in person or send a letter of notification to the competent official , in accordance with the regulations prescribed by the Director General .

Section 38 : The house – master , the owner or the possessor of the residence , or the hotel manager where the alien , receiving permission to stay temporary in the Kingdom has stayed , must notify the competent official of the Immigration Office located in the same area with that hours , dwelling place or hotel, within 24 hours from the time of arrival of the alien concerned. If there is no Immigration Office located in that area , the local police official for that area must be notified.

In case the house , dwelling place , or hotel where the alien has stayed under provision of Para.1 is located within the Bangkok area , such notification must be reported to the competent official at the Immigration Division.

Making notification , in reference to the Para 1 and 2 of this Section , must comply with regulations prescribed by the Director General.

Section 76 : Any alien, alien, who fails to comply with the provisions of Section 37(2),(3),(4)or(5) shall be punished with a fine not exceeding 5,000 Baht and with and additional fine not exceeding 200 Baht for each day which passes until the law is complied with.

Section 77 : Whoever fails to comply with the provision of Section 38, shall be punished with a fine not exceeding 2,000 Baht. If said person is a hotel manager, he shall be punished with a fine from 2,000 Baht to 10,000 Baht.

Just one other thing for the OP to consider ........if planning to live long term in Chiang Mai .

Chiang Mai has a very large ex-pat population and FUTURE dealings with the local immigration office there are ( apparently) a nightmare.

I dont live there , so only going on reports from others . But it seems that even for the simplest dealings with Immigration in Chiang Mai means queueing up from VERY VERY early in the morning.

My local immigration office is usually in and out in less than 1/2 hour (depending on what you need to do ) almost any time of the day .

Chiang Mai has a new office. Much improved.

And as long as you don't need to do any business at the Jomtien immigration office during your stay (e.g., requesting a 30d extension on a tourist visa), you probably won't have a problem.  But touch all the wood you want, if you rent a condo in the area served by the Jomtien Immigration Office, and the landlord there doesn't do the TM30 (and many of them DON'T want to do it and will claim they know nothing about it!), and you yourself fail to do it within 24hrs of arrival at the condo, you'll be on the wrong side of the law.  Show up at the Jomtien office to request something, and you can be fined.

As in my question I mentioned Pattaya Hill so I will be going to Immig in Jomtien. I know they want proof of residency and office is often closed, so I figured bring copy of rental agreement. I will also need that soon to apply for retirement there. Landlord is a friend renting out his condo for first time. An old coot like me who gets confused with paperwork.

  7. I am in Utah, my landlord is near Chiang Mai, the condo I will be renting is on Pattaya Hill. I think I will need the landlord to send me a rental contract. Can it be a printout from email, or must it be an original mailed to me? Can it be in letter form or must it be on some official paperwork. Do I need a receipt of pre-payment? Is there anything else I need from him? This also applies to what I need from him when obtaining my tourist visa by mail. There always seems to be something "that everybody knows" but is not in the instructions. Can I report in the afternoon (3 a.m. arrival)? Advice? Thanks in advance.

  8. The surprises. I must give examples. 1) I was left alone on a hospital exam table when my disabled friend's caretaker checked on me. I said I was freezing. Her solution: climb on the table and lay on top of me.

    2) Walking late in BKK. Street vendor wants me to buy a beer. I say I'm broke. She says, No problem. Pay me tomorrow. Never saw her before. I have two beers, chat, and pay her the next day.

    3) Make friends with receptionist at 4-star hotel. Fast forward 5 years: She's in management at 5-star hotels. Twice so far she has flown in to BKK, got taxi to Pattaya, cooked dinner for me and my buddy, handed me 10,000 baht to help me enjoy my stay, and flown out after a night at her ex-high school girlfriend's house.

    4) At 7-11 after long flight. 5 A.M. Buy way too much stocking up on water and many other essentials. What to do? Without a word the counter clerk picks up two big jugs of water and follows me to my condo. I tip her 50 baht.

Any of this at home? Not a chance.
