Another vote from the military beach from me.
It's maybe 15-25 mins drive south of Jomtien, near Bang Saray.
Clean water and less harassment by people trying to sell food or foot massages or other <deleted>.

My guess would be died due to complications of the vaccine - perhaps blood clots (as has been seen previously with AZ vaccines in Europe in a few cases). Remember: no vaccine is 100% safe and from every vaccine some people die. Usually states have funds to help relatives with some money after a person died from a vaccine, Thailand has such a fund as well.

You know based on the criteria outlined in the article, this looks like a pretty good visa option. 10 year validity with no annoying reporting and revenue outside Thailand exempted from taxation? Nice! I really think I'll apply for this.
I still think that letting foreigners own land is a mistake, but if they insist then I guess it would be a shame not to oblige them.
They should at least put some limits on land size owned by foreigners - and perhaps they do. Say max 1 rai, maybe even less. Might also need to think of some inheritance ruling, maybe after foreigner dies and if descendants or significant other is not Thai, force them to sell to Thai people within 5 years.
Apart from the land ownership possibility, I think the deal is a bit crappy. Other countries give a permanent citizenship or even passport (valid for life) for this or less money: https://www.goldenvisas.com/country

You know, we always say to ourselves that, if only we had met the right woman, then we could achieve our true potential, given their support.
I don't agree. Actually women distract men from reaching their full potential. Which is why some very highly successful men can't keep a solid relationship going. Because great men want to achieve great things and to achieve great you are ideally singularly focused and dedicated towards your goal.
I have been in a relationship and have a daughter, but I also have some goals and the relationship makes it harder to achieve my goals. I want to become self sufficient from my work, being able to stop working for clients. And to achieve these goals, I need to work hard, save a lot of money. If I didn't have a relationship I would have already achieved these goals by now. But having a relationship makes it harder, since woman are not careful with money, since children cost a lot of money and a relationship requires time that I can't use to better my skills and abilities. Also, for the sake of our daughter I am "kind of" stuck in Thailand, whereas I might have made more money if I moved to a different high-income country just to work there a couple of years and be done with it.
I think if you look in history you will find many men that achieved great (or sometimes terrible in case of Hitler, Stalin) things, were not reliant on woman to achieve their goals. Some examples: Elon Musk, Newton, Blaise Pascal, Marcus Aurelius, Nicola Tesla, founding fathers of the US, Einstein, etc...
To be honest if our relationship would be over in the future (which I feel might happen at some point due to different views and ways of handling life situations), I would not have another long-term relationship with a woman. Instead I'd life alone, sometimes hire a girl for some fun, but otherwise just focus on my work, my hobbies & my daughter.

I liked the Nok Air outfits of the ladies, so I am hoping this company stays afloat.

Estate agents that I have see interviewed about property market have all been bullish and stated how well the market is performing some saying prices are actually going up in tourist areas. If this is the case the market should be booming! Is it?
Do you think a real-estate agent is even gonna tell a potential client that the market is <deleted> and it's extremely hard to sell for the usual asking price right now?
Remember: these people get commission on sales.

At this age I say hear, hear for boring.
Priorities at this point in life are good coffee, good milk to put in it, legal cannabis. When I get ready for bed at night I think about the coffee I'll have when I wake up. Clean, good quality food. Not having to be concerned that others will give me grief for not being like them. Emergency medical call facilities necessary, unfortunately.
Been in the northwest part of US since before pandemic. In the past 18 months have personally witnessed not only the lockdown but also empty supermarket shelves. Demonstrations by irate citizens that turn into violent clashes by those that oppose them, and went on for nights at end: let me clarify that this was confined to just a few blocks in the downtown area, and most of Portland was not affected. Then there were the wildfires last September and the entire area was dark with ash clouds for about two weeks.
before
after
Both pics taken around 3pm from the same point, maybe 1 week apart. The nearest actual burning was around 150 miles away.
The upside of the ash cloud was that gun-toting patriots began cruising around the state a few days before, oversized flags flying from their pickups and horns blaring, and the cloud put that to an end for the most part, but some tried to take advantage of the panic. If interested search on "clackamas militia"
Then in February we had an ice storm, the 2 major towns in the state (including the capitol) lost electricity for 3-4 days of freezing temperatures (glad I stocked up on canned tuna and had a cooked chicken in the fridge). Drove out of town, managed to find a McD's that had a generator, waited an hour for a cup of coffee.
And now it's fire season again.
So much for comparing life in the US with countries where living is difficult. It's starting to rack up like Biblical plagues, anticipating a rain of frogs.
For those looking for a new country to live in, 2 words to bear in mind: rising shoreline.
Yeah rising shoreline ... sure. Why do banks still give out mortgages for seaside properties? Why haven't seaside property prices plummeted? It's all a wash ...
Sure the shoreline might rise, a couple of centimeters in 100 year. Doubt it'll be the end of the world.

I voted to stay.
I don’t worry at all for Covid and I don’t plan on taking a vaccine. It seems Europe has gone crazy and wants to force vaccines on people (see France, Portugal, more to follow soon I’m sure).
The weather in my country of origin sucks most of the time anyways. Healthcare for the elderly is going down the drain as well, immigration of people without any skills continues and there’s a housing shortage that will not be resolved in the next 20 years. Also climate hysteria.
I am also quite sure a huge economic crash is looming in Europe.
I feel Thailand is a better place to stay. As far as I know BoT isn’t doing QE and I’m hoping Thailand will not force vaccines on people. I hope to safe a lot of money while working here and then perhaps once I am old and in need of help, maybe I could afford a nurse to help out every day in my own house. Seems a better way to go then to slowly detoriate in a home for the elderly.- 5

I live in a village right now, been living in a village for the past 3 years or so.
I hope to buy a condo in Pattaya or other seaside resort over the coming year. I prefer to have a condo with a swimming pool. Of course, my girlfriend prefers her farm. We have to find some way so each of us can get the life we want. Perhaps sell the farm + house in the village and buy one on the outskirts or Pattaya or something.
The village is kinda boring. It's not too much a problem for me, since I spent most of my time working from home, behind the computer. However, the stuff to do in the weekends is little and kinda boring around here. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are both about a 2.5 - 3 hour drive from here, so we visit the city only a couple of times in a year.
For my daughter I believe the city will be better as well, higher quality schools most likely, though more expensive as well. And as she's the only luk-khrueng around here, she might fit in better in a school in the city with more luk-khrueng (though she isn't bothered by this right now and most people find my daughter quite lovely and beautiful).
There's more entertainment in the city as well. I know my daughter likes to go to the beach and I like the walks on the beach road during the day. There's the cinemas (but probably closed right now), shopping malls (fun for my daughter and gf), waterparks, zoo's, hospitals, restaurants with western food, etc... Dealing with Jomtien immigration would be annoying again though, one of the nice perks of living in a remote village is that the 90-day reporting in local immigration office is done really quick and without hassle. No long queues. And with regards to food: I find the pork in our village mostly crappy. I believe most of the quality meats of the pigs are sent to the city, while people here eat the leftovers or something. Though the Thai people seem to enjoy the meat as far as I can tell, I find it often quite stringy.
Finally I'd like to talk to people from Europe, USA, Australia and the like about stuff that concerns us and that most Thai seem to care or know very little about. Stuff like economics, politics, world affairs, etc... I'd like to talk with people with similar jobs as me on technology issues etcetera.

FiF, Farang in Fortuner, half drunk and wife or gf 30years younger texting her Thai boyfriend while he thinks he's king of the world. Add on the newly acquired Tattoos the grey hair dyed brown, it's an hilarious but somewhat sad sight, eventually most join ThaiVisa and spend the rest of their days moaning and whining, blaming Thailand and Thai people for the mess they made of their lives.
Guilty as charged ????

My nomination would be the traveller van/mini-buses. The drivers are super agressive lunatics and road bullies. High risk passing, tailgating, speeding, cutting people off.... they are a ruthless threat to safety.
These people seemed crazy to me around Bangkok, but in Chiang Mai province not too bad.
Almost every Mercedes or BMW driver seems to be an <deleted> here by the way, expecting all other traffic to make room for them while they tend to drive at very high speed.

Might be better to look for more than just price.
I live in a farming village in Chiang Mai province. Our neighbour farms cauliflower, but wouldn't eat their own produce due to the massive amounts of pesticides used. I'm sure it's not the only people using lost of pesticides here. A lot of people are very lazy and using pesticides means there's little work involved and the produce will look very good (since no insects eating).
We have our own little farm and my girlfriend doesn't use pesticides except for some home-grown organic "pesticide". So we try to eat as much from our own farm as possible, as we know it's safe. We also know of some lady in the nearby amphur that also tries to do as much organic as possible, so we also buy from her many times.

per year or per month?
Averages per year for my (now) 4 year stay.
So about 500.000 - 600.000 base, maybe 1.200.000 average when including one-time gifts. In the future there will be less gifts, so the average yearly spending should slowly decrease.
My aim is for us to live on around 500.000 THB a year and invest all extra income.

Probably around 500.000 - 600.000 THB. just monthly spending on food, insurance, school daughter, ...
If I include the one-time things I bought for my girlfriend (house, car, farmland, ...) the average would be higher, maybe 1.200.000 THB.

Last time I was in Pattaya, about 1.5 years ago, the swimming pool of the condo I rented got closed due to COVID.
I kinda feel like going to a seaside resort again, maybe Pattaya, but would like to have access to a clean, decently sized swimming pool for a daily swim.
So do the condos in Pattaya still keep swimming pools closed due to COVID or is the situation changed?

The question was not about my wife, per se. I was asking if it is a thai culrural practice to shower and clean ones body immediately after having sex? And I ask because for three years this was not the norm.
So far no one has addressed the question, only the actions leading up to the question.
Me and my Thai gf always shower after sex. I like it that way as well tbh.

You could just study something else. Thai boxing, Thai language, cooking ...
and for those specific kinds of studies you could visit a small scale school.
Back when I studied, I went to Walen language school in Pattaya. Was 8 hours a week spread over 4 days IIRC.
You’d have plenty of free time and if you stay in Thailand it can be useful to know some Thai anyways.

Yeah it was a great game. It was fun persuading all people so you got a nice human shield around you.
I played the original on a Mac, which probably had better graphics (higher resolution and/or more colours) than the DOS version.
The 90s were a great period for gaming imo. Nowadays I don't play too many games anymore.
You can buy many classic games cheaply on GOG: https://www.gog.com- 1

Many years before I moved to Thailand, I was always thinking at some point I would emigrate to Chile. One of the reasons were the good IT infrastructure, meaning it should be easy for me to find work as software developer. Or to work remotely.
Also central Chile has a Mediterranean climate. And also the country has deserts, snow, mountains ... a bit of everything.
So Chile would have been my first choice. But I never visited South America, so I can't tell from experience. Still on my bucket list.

It's pretty close to the amount I calculated for myself.
Previously I calculated I'd need about 350.000 USD and this would be assuming we wouldn't pay rent. We don't have loans. Investing the money pretty defensively (4% profit a year) should earn 0.04 * 350.000 USD = 14.000 USD a year or about 420.000 THB. 420.000 THB / 12 is about 35.000 THB a month.
Yes it wouldn't be wild living on that budget, but it'd be ok.
Saving a bit more before retirement is a good idea though.
Thai teaching style: do Thai teachers tend to get angry if students have difficulty understanding a topic?
in Teaching in Thailand Forum
Posted · Edited by wolf81
I am wondering about the Thai teaching style, since my daughter is going to a Thai private school.
Just today a niece of our daughter is at our home. My girlfriend is helping her with some homework as apparently this girl has been lazy, not been doing her homework. Now she's doing math, basic addition and subtraction. This girl is going to a free government school.
But this niece (7 year old) is apparently having trouble doing basic calculations, e.g. 8 + 4 = 12. Now my girlfriend tends to become angry (raise her voice a bit, sounding a bit aggressive) as this girl is having trouble doing these calculations. I do feel this girl isn't as smart as most children her age, but I don't feel raising the voice and becoming a tad angry is helping her understanding. But I've been wondering: maybe my girlfriend is mimicking behaviour she saw from teachers back when she was a girl?
So my question: how do Thai teachers deal with children that have difficulty understanding a topic? Do Thai teachers tend to become a little bit angry?
I wouldn't want a teacher exhibit this behaviour when our daughter would have difficulty understanding some topic ...
