  1. Depends on your home country.  As a US Citizen, your home country is always the US, even if you live here year around, with Tokio Marine.  They will deliver a card electronically and to your address here.  I am covered for motorbike...1 million USD.  I doubt they would pay if drunk or doing illegal activities.  Allianz seems to be more geared to Europeans, but better look carefully at moto coverage.  My agent is WWW.INSUBUY.COM in Texas....if you go direct to WWW.HCC.COM, the price is the same and they will assign you an agent.  (Tokio Marine now owns Houston Casualty Company, HCC).

My card has three different logos on it :  First Health (Aetna), Medical Management Program Inc., and Equian (international provider network).  They paid RAM direct a few years ago, before I left.

I think blood bank is separate entity and not related to Suan Dok, they dont cooperate and share info, why is that, I m not sure

Could be.  Might be more a function of the Red Cross, as I had always gone to Red Cross inside the moat, for previous donations.  She even made an entry on that card.  They did however, look at my passport, and enter a bunch of stuff in the system.  Likely, just generated the bag numbers for the day.  OTOH, it did seem to be staffed by hospital personnel.

  3. 350%+ more than Heineken at Tops....should have hot, hot stripper at that price.  Mosquito's and grouchy cops more likely.  The only survivors in that Chinese ghetto are those very well connected.

That gets me almost as excted as free wine tasting at Food land, BKK.

Actually tutsi said that - quotes can lie.

Expect total bill can vary by the exam doctor involved as is true most places here.

Yes, and it can vary from what they quoted you 15 minutes before...rarely in your favor.

When you get the examination script, I would ask for the PD (pupil distance) - ordering glasses online will need it. BTW - Zenni has been good for me. They have a huge optical processing factory - I believe it is in Hong Kong.

Southern Mainland, there is even a good video of their factory.  Delivery to LOS might just be a day or three quicker than USA.

  6. BTW, OD is right eye, OS is left.  I got a PD for each eye, but the total is much more important.  Puff test should be almost nothing.  Did they put you on fish oil capsules or anything like that..Occuvite, I think.

just got back from Rutnin where I had an eye exam, mostly for purposes of obtaining the data required for ordering from zenni and had an excellent discussion with one of the doctors, Dr Apiradi Prechanond...she was the most informative that I've had anywhere, very pleasant and engaging with excellent English...

the hospital is a 40min walk from the nana area (my hotel is on soi 6) which is preferable as the traffic on that part of Asoke (southbound near Petchburi Rd) is horrific...a bit sweaty, take a hand towel from the hotel room...

Thanks for the update, and rec.  What was the total?  Was the dilation a separate item on the bill?  Did you walk in or make an appointment?  Do you have the best number to call them at?  Some new bottle bottoms should make it easier to avoid the ladyboys.  Sheers!

  8. Actually, electric (I was a addressing Electrified) is closer to 3.8, delivered.  Condo water is 17-40..depends, per unit, and last time I had a house it was 5.  99.8% of people with municipal water have municipal sewer in the US, so your bill would be for water and sewer...but even at 10 per unit, he is using 1500 liters per day, which is excessive.  Maybe not a leak, but high use.

This post, and several others, is a good reminder of why I got a retirement visa in the Philippines and now spend 6 months in each place, using tourist visas for Thailand. I have had my Resident Retirement Visa for 7 years, I have NEVER reported/visited Immigration in that time. I don't need an entry/exit permit, I just come and go with a smile and hello from IO on the counters.  This is how retirees should be treated

Not bad, if you don't mind Juan, Jose, Pedro, and Maria living in cardboard houses.  Could get that in Mexico or any other Catholic nation. SETVs certainly are t painless, and neither are thirty day extensions, or trips to the border (probably least painful).  One pretty bad day per year for me, 1900 THB....and the TM30 monkey business, that I have taken full charge of.

if on a yearly extension of stay of an entry by a non immigrant 'O'A' visa then 90 day reports are required, but a multi entry non immigrant 'O' visa ( note the missing 'A' after 'O') requires a border run after 90 days ( unless extended)to activate another 90 day entry

Yes, which I think quite a few married guys do.  People doing in and outs at maesai are often those with an existing visa.  Used to be mobbed with runners getting 30s and that crackdown started more than 10 years ago, with 1,2,3 written in the passports..three max.  Tourism has suffered greatly up there, including Chiang Rai.

  11. The old, great places on Sukhumvit have been ruined, but there are hundreds of nice neighborhoods that really grow on you, and have a much smaller feel.  You will quickly get to know people on your everyday routines, and they will know you, and could very easily help you find a playmate  or three.  I live in CM, not perfect, not bad...I usually look forward to visiting BKK.

  12. True for condos and houses, but hotel walk in rates are almost always higher than the promos on agoda.   I have even been sent to an internet shop to get the better rate.  Paid 220 per night at Siam Privi in Huai Kwang last month.  Walk in rate was 590.  And they still gave me a top floor, corner room...that was spotless, with fridge and flat screen, daikin a/c.

Rutnin runs at such a high standard I don't think you will go wrong no matter who you get. I had gone to one of the most recommended ophthalmologist herein Chiang Mai. The prescription just didn't seem right. Went to Rutnin and got it redone. It was dead on accurate. Ordered the glasses Zenni and have been very pleased. And Zenni is definitely cheaper than anywhere I have found in Thailand.

Good to know, thanks.  I am going on ten years with Zenni and I recall the skeptics back then.  No doubts at all about them.
