It is my opinion that every person that has rec'd an extension based on that shonky letter consider themselves lucky.

Embassy no doubt saw too much fraud. Rather than bicker about it, they just shut it down. They can't discuss it bc that opens them up to abeiting in prior fraud. So it's done. Why can't you all just glom on to that cold fact?

Just an attestment. I would never give someone a year's visa based on their word and photocopies. US embassy will wake up too.

Move on... because you're going to have to anyway. 400/800 or another country. Up to you.

I have to agree 100%. Instead of moaning/bitching about how hard done by yous are just pull yer pants up and 'move on'. I'm sure there are many other ways to remain in Thailand, long term, without the embassy letter. Good luck.

Write to the Ambassador explaining the advice we are being given by the BE contradicts what we are being told by our Immigration Offices. and by doing so are putting us in jeopardy of being refused an extension of stay...

Do you really think that writing to him will make matters different? Do you not think that the BE have thought this through, knowing of the backlash it would cause? Nah, bitching to the ambassador ain't gonna make any difference. The decision has been made.

How do reach that nonsensical conclusion from a decision made by the British Foreign office?

I wasn't referring to the Foreign office I was referring to the way the Thais make us jump through hoops to remain here. I have 3 kids, do you think the Thai government gives a damn about them if I failed to come up with the requirement to stay here? Are there any appeal courts in Thailand to fight deportation?

All they care about is you have all your money seasoned and it's the correct amount.

No it isn't. As Peterw42 says below. I have the 800g's in a fixed term account. Allowed in the rules but they insist on seeing a ordinary account book showing transactions over the last 12 months as well.

Some immigration offices will actually question you if appears you are not spending it, they presume you must be working.

  5. This new rule from the UK embassy isn't new. It was first published on 26 January 2014. So people have had almost 5 years to sort out their financial requirements. Always have a plan B.

Ha Ha...... I can’t see Kuhn Arcade and his colleagues going without their bonuses...

I first met Khun Arcade when he was in the old immigration office just outside Kap Choeng in early 2006. He was a bit of a runt then but a nice guy, Very helpful. He's kinda changed since then. Not so helpful now and makes things up as he goes along. Must be down to the steroids he's obviously on?

I did my 1 year retirement extension in Buriram in April 2018. I brought all the necessary p/w incl. the TM7. The IO told me i did not need a TM 7 anymore because  everything is in the computer.

I was told last year that this year I didn't need a photograph for the TM7. The officer denied saying it and I had to produce a photograph. Lets see how you get on next April.

Hopefully this new rule about no tipping, or under the table payments, may sort these money grabbers out.
