No, tourism does. We are not tourists.

All farang whinge, it's in our nature. But in this case nothing is gonna be done. Just move on to plan B. There doesn't seem to be the same disgust regarding the BE stance on other forums. May be TV members get their knickers in a twist easily?

Such as? May be a 'certificate of income' from the BE? ????

Not everyone can just rustle up 400k or 800 k baht and just keep it in the bank seasoning.
If you're in hospital requiring open heart surgery I'm sure you'd come up with the dosh? Sell the car. Sell the house. Get yer missus to get a loan. Do whatever it takes. Stop winging.

Write to the Ambassador explaining the advice we are being given by the BE contradicts what we are being told by our Immigration Offices. and by doing so are putting us in jeopardy of being refused an extension of stay...
Do you really think that writing to him will make matters different? Do you not think that the BE have thought this through, knowing of the backlash it would cause? Nah, bitching to the ambassador ain't gonna make any difference. The decision has been made.

How do reach that nonsensical conclusion from a decision made by the British Foreign office?
I wasn't referring to the Foreign office I was referring to the way the Thais make us jump through hoops to remain here. I have 3 kids, do you think the Thai government gives a damn about them if I failed to come up with the requirement to stay here? Are there any appeal courts in Thailand to fight deportation?

Conspiracy? How is that a 'conspiracy'?

There is nothing about foreign source...
They interpret the rules as they see fit. Take the 'Bank Letter' as an example. I believe the law says it must be obtained up to 7 days in advance. My office makes us get it on the day of application. Are you or I going to tell them they are wrong?

When are farangs going to wake up. Thailand doesn't want us here. They want tourists who they believe spend more than long term residents. I know that to be not true but it's what they believe.

There are not any new laws!
Yes there are. The ones made up by the officer you use. Every year they seem to interpret the rules differently to the year before. No 2 years ever seem to be the same.

All they care about is you have all your money seasoned and it's the correct amount.
No it isn't. As Peterw42 says below. I have the 800g's in a fixed term account. Allowed in the rules but they insist on seeing a ordinary account book showing transactions over the last 12 months as well.

Thailand is so dynamic, you people come here and want, want, want then blame others for your stupidity.
Have said it a couple of times in this thread but everyone needs a 'plan B' in case 'plan A' goes tits up. As in this case. No 'plan B' then you deserve what is coming. Sorry

what is wrong with immigration issuing a short statement clarifying what will be required going forward.
I believe they have. It's 400 or 800 thousand in a Thai bank for minimum of 3 months. 2 months if first extension.

This new rule from the UK embassy isn't new. It was first published on 26 January 2014. So people have had almost 5 years to sort out their financial requirements. Always have a plan B.

The embassy letter reflects income, the bank letter reflects savings, there's a big difference.
That may be one interpretation but my immigration office wants to see movement within the account. They want to see your ordinary account bank book to confirm you just do not have required funds in a fixed account.

Not wrong. It is correct. Embassy letters are good for 6 months.
You misunderstood. It is wrong that a letter from an embassy lasts for 6 months whereas a letter from my bank lasts one day. That is wrong.

And that being the reason to change. I can't show monies in my bank account from 6 months ago. So why can you?

Embassy income letters on the other hand can be as old as six months.
Totally wrong. And that I see as the reason for the change. One rule for all.

Anyone who came to Thailand without a plan B deserves what they get. I'm sorry, but that's life. I show my bank letter of required monies on the day I get my extension. How long before an expat goes to his embassy for a confirmation letter does it have to be before he acquires his extension? All being equal it should be the same day.

Ha Ha...... I can’t see Kuhn Arcade and his colleagues going without their bonuses...
I first met Khun Arcade when he was in the old immigration office just outside Kap Choeng in early 2006. He was a bit of a runt then but a nice guy, Very helpful. He's kinda changed since then. Not so helpful now and makes things up as he goes along. Must be down to the steroids he's obviously on?

I did my 1 year retirement extension in Buriram in April 2018. I brought all the necessary p/w incl. the TM7. The IO told me i did not need a TM 7 anymore because everything is in the computer.
I was told last year that this year I didn't need a photograph for the TM7. The officer denied saying it and I had to produce a photograph. Lets see how you get on next April.
Hopefully this new rule about no tipping, or under the table payments, may sort these money grabbers out.

British Embassy Bangkok to Stop Certification of Income Letters
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
I have to agree 100%. Instead of moaning/bitching about how hard done by yous are just pull yer pants up and 'move on'. I'm sure there are many other ways to remain in Thailand, long term, without the embassy letter. Good luck.
