  1. If you come to Phuket I'll take care of you personally smile.png. You'll just have to take some no flying time into account after your last dive of the trip.

I think from Phuket you can also go with the bus (train??) overnight to Bangkok.

Last dive in the evening and overnight back??

Yes, that's an option, but would limit the divesite selection for an early enough return to be guaranteed to catch the bus.

And on the trips to nearly all sites, last dive finished latest 16.00 hours would after 18 hours no flying allow flying again the next morning 10.00 anyway, arrival Bangkok downtown 12.30 hours, so busing gains some time but not that much.

So as an alternative I think the bus is good, but when possible I'd prefer the plane.

Thanks Phuketdash for the offer and h90 for the suggestion. I would love to go to Phuket again but don't really have the time on this trip and don't really want to travel anymore than I have to. I will be travelling from Saudi to Singapore on the Friday, then Singapore to Bkk on the Sunday and then back again via Sg on the following Friday, thus don't really want to do anymore travelling in between plus I will need to stay in Bkk for a few days during that time as well. Pattaya or Jomtien is as far as I can/willing to go for this time!

I joined the Bangkok Diver Scuba Travel Club, so with a bit of luck will find someone from there who can dive with me.

  2. One thing you might consider is to just come here to Pattaya and hook up with one of the many diver operators here. Scheduled trips leave every day. I was at one of the outer islands a few months ago snorkeling and it was amazingly good. Just a thought....

I was there a couple of month as well, almost no customer, so all decided it is to windy for the outer islands (there was no significant wind, but no customer on the boats ---> save the diesel). On the inner islands it was the worst I have ever seen....

I would recommend any other place over the inner islands. (Wrack in Pattaya is nice).

And the dive partner you get is a bit of lottery. Can be excellent or can be one who learned in Pattaya and is more a danger to than a partner....

On the other side I think Pattaya is the only destination close to Bangkok.

Thanks for the replies guys. I presume by the inner islands you mean Ko Larn and Ko Sak, whereas the outer islands are Ko Rin and north and south rock? So the outer islands are better for diving generally speaking?

If I can't find a dive partner here I may just chance it and go directly to one of the dive operators there. I was thinking of staying in Jomtien so any recommendations for diver operators would be cool!

  3. Personally my advice would be to get yourself to your another AA meeting. Have you got yourself a sponsor? If not, just going to meetings is most certainly a positive move but you really need to follow the 12 step program with a sponsor to make it work. I found this out the hard way, I tried various things over a period of about 5 years, going to AA meetings without a sponsor...it didn't work. Went to a therapist...it didn't work. Tried taking antabuse...it didn't work. In fact I continued to drink while I was taking them and was violently sick. I was lucky it could have been a WHOLE lot more serious for my health. Tried willpower alone...it didn't work.

I really didn't want to go back to AA but I literally had no choice. Was at absolutely rock bottom, was going to lose my job, wife, son everything. After getting myself a great sponsor, following the 12 step program I have now been 7 months sober. The longest period by far for almost 20 years (I'm 35) and I absolutely love my life now and have no inclination to go back to my former ways. I was also a binge drinker by the way.

    Good luck.

  4. Hi, I'm looking for a dive partner for the last week of April. None of my friends are interested in diving! I have my PADI open water but haven't dived for quite a while so definitely need to do a refresher course. Unfortunately I don't have much time to travel due to work commitments so it will have to be somewhere that's not too far to travel from Bangkok for a few days diving.

If anyone is interested please feel free to PM me or reply below.

    Thanks!

  5. If you have will power you can do it. I stopped overnight (literally) 32 years ago and although the first couple of months were hard I didnt touch a drink. Have not drank since then and I feel great for it

Unless you are alcoholic, where willpower is of absolutely no use at all.

Hmmm...can you elaborate on that. Thanks.

I would completely agree with Neeranam, if you are an alcoholic willpower alone cannot help you to stop boozing unfortunately. I am a recovering alcoholic (almost 7 months sober now) and I tried using will power for a good 5 years or so and it never worked. It wasn't until I joined AA that I could stop drinking. Basically what we suffer from is firstly a "physical allergy" whereby when an alcoholic has one drink, they want another one and another one. A normal person can say enough is enough, but an alcoholic cannot. Then this is followed by the "mental obsession" whereby the alcoholic will feel restless, irritable and discontent until they have that next drink and then the physical allergy begins all over again. This vicious circle is very very hard to break out of with willpower alone as there are stronger negative forces at work but fortunately AA shows a way to do it.

  6. I have been jailed in Lumpini and On Nut police stations on two separate occasions. The former for working without a work permit (not my fault, boss wouldn't give us work permits after many false promises) and the latter for being drunk and disorderly in my soi, definitely my fault!

I also had to go in front of a judge for the work permit offence which wasn't a very pleasant experience....

  7. Nothing on here for a few days, anyone know how the op is going?

I'd love to hear how the OP is doing as well.

Hi all, it's been a while since I last posted here. Basically I never went to any AA in Bkk ( I bottled it at the last moment..excuse the pun) and my drinking and the associated problems, financial, relationships, health etc just became even worse than before. So I came to the conclusion that a change of scene would be the only solution. I relocated to Manila and all was going well for a while. But then I started to fall into bad habits and realised that the ONLY option would be to go to AA as I couldn't do it on myself. I wasn't keen to be honest, but had NO choice. I have now been to several meetings and found a very supportive and helpful bunch of people who have all been through pretty much the same experiences. I've now been clean and sober for 27days, a small but very significant step for me and wholeheartedly mean to carry on this way. I can already notice the health and financial benefits!

For anyone who is thinking of going to AA, my advice would be GO FOR IT!! Without their advice and support I would be a complete mess, if not dead (no exaggeration here) or seriously ill.

  8. As Jingthing correctly stated this is not only extremely offensive (and I'm not one to get easily offended) but also clearly shows the unbelieveable ignorance and lack of sensitivity of these students AND their mentors. Are they not aware that if Hitler had had his way a lot of Asians would either be dead or in a lot worse state than they are in now. WAKE UP!!

  9. I don't know if there's any way to replace a green book. I suspect they get lost or mangled sometimes, and a procedure must exist for creating replacements. But even if that was possible, since it appears the bike has never been in your name (according to the green book) I don't think you or anybody buying the bike would be able to do this. It sounds like the bike is kinda useless as it can't be registered.

Perhaps if you told us how situation (of having no green book) came about, somebody could give you some help. Instead, you appear to be attacking those who logically point out a serious problem for any potential buyer.

Really I was the one attacking those who logically point out a serious problem? I think if you read back carefully I was not the one who began the argument, neither was I impolite in my first post. I merely reacted on the same level as the comments I received!

FYI it's been sold already, too little too late for old Thaicbr. If you can't take it don't dish it out! tongue.png

  10. And why should I have to explain to you exactly?? I would be MORE than happy to explain to a potential buyer. Are you going to buy it!? I don't think so, so please put your unhelpful comments elsewhere, thanks smile.png

Well if that's your attitude. Were you are unwilling to explain why you are selling a bike without green book therefore the original owner can claim it back at anytime.. right. Not interested. Might have been. Not now.

    Sent from my i-mobile i-STYLE Q6

Well firstly the original owner is no longer in Thailand and not interested in the bike. Secondly it's "where" not "were" and thirdly I wouldn't want to sell it to you! Jeez you're like a dog with a bone...

  11. I am selling my Honda Wave as I'm leaving the country soon. Only asking 11,900baht

It's in fantastic condition, regular oil changes, new Michelin back tyre and has done just under 16k Km.

Unfortunately the previous owner has the Green Book hence the low price,
but it is a great little runner and I have never had any problems.

  12. Can anyone recommend a condo in the above area, ideally with a gym and/or swimming pool. Failing that any gyms in that area?

No short time hotels please as the "DIY" (constant hammering) tends to wake me up whistling.gif

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Does anyone know a website or apartment where we can rent an apartment for 1 to 3 months in Manilla? The more reasonable the cost the better, but should be upto a reasonable standard (ie have aircon, not roach infested etc) and safe!

Maybe some hotels do longer term rentals better than their daily deals? Any info would be much appreciated!

  14. Funnily enough I've been frequenting Sukhumvit soi 33 a fair bit in the last few months. This was after a break of around 5 years of never venturing further than the Londoner!

I found a few places to be fairly good value and "fun". The (Dutch owned) Green Parrot a bit further down in the soi on the right is friendly enough and Lips has some very attractive ermm "furnishings".... However I've never warmed to the Office much and much prefer the Clubhouse too.

  15. I've been driving my Honda Wave around Bkk almost every day for 5 years now. Never had any major incident.

Make sure you know exactly where you are going (hesitation can be more dangerous than speeding in fast flowing traffic), definitely don't drive drunk and be aware of everything that's around you and you should be fine.

  16. Does anyone know if there is a decent hotel gym that non guests can pay to use around the Udom Suk, On Nut or Prakahnong areas? I just called the Jasmine Hotel at Prakhanong Bts but the concept of a non guest paying to use their facilities was too much for them to fathom....wacko.png

  17. I live in the Bangna area in a nice condo for 12K/month, have lived in this area for 5 years and find it really nice, whilst I couldn't walk to Bearing BTS from my condo there are new condo's popping up all around Bearing and Bangna BTS Stations. There are plenty of amenities in the area with Central Bangna, Seacon Square and Paradise all close.

How far is Bangna to Seacon Square and Paradise?

Between 15 to 30mins drive depending on traffic.

  18. We are an up and coming business looking for new sales executives to join our growing sales team in Bangkok.

This is not a boiler room or SEO business, we have a fantastic product that is just going to become more and more in demand.

Due to the fact that we are currently a fairly new company to Bkk we can only offer commission based salary to start with. However we already have guys earning in excess of 60,000baht every month.

If you have proven sales experience, are a good team player, proactive and can work indepently too please apply with your CV enclosed.

  19. There's a gym/swimming pool near On Nut soi 46 adjacent to the Mormon Church. The pool's quite good/big. I've never been to the gym (upstairs).

I like that gym, for the fact that the staff are super friendly, the equipment is generally old but solid. Can't go super heavy with the free weights but they are ok and it's only 80baht per session! I think you can pay 1k for unlimited use per month. Oh the cardio machines are pretty crap though but that doesn't bother me!
