  1. All very valid points, thanks again.

I actually have other activities I can do such as gym, squash etc but sometimes the urge to drink just overcomes all logic and sense. I was also wondering if anybody knows where I can get a medicine called Disulfiram or Antabuse. Basically it's a tablet that if you drink whilst taking it, it will make you very sick. My ex gf gave it to me and I know it definitely works. I think this could be another way to stop this problem as well as help from AA. I have tried several chemists locally but none seem to have it.

I will definitely update everyone about my progress and hope this advice can maybe help any others in this situation too.

You can obtain "Antabuse" from your GP. See Sheryl's post //5 on http://www.thaivisa....m-where-to-buy/ regarding Antabuse/Disulfiram.

Getting your vitals checked out with a GP is no bad thing for embarking on your treatment.

As with most medications there are contraindications to observe.

Thanks Eddie, I don't suppose anybody knows where I can get it from a pharmacy in Bangkok? I had a look at the thread but no luck.

    Cheers Greg

  3. Hi guys and thanks for all your input, in my haste to put up the post I completely forgot to say I am located in Bangkok.

I have contacted the local AA via email and have had a reply so I will follow this up too. The most critical time for me is Friday afternoon early evening (similar to what NBD was saying). This is when it's highly likely I will be inundated with offers to go drinking with friends (who can actually control their drinking) and the alternative is to stay at home alone again. I would really love to be able to have the frame of mind to say no and even better have some alternative planned.

Once again thanks for all your help and kind suggestions.

  4. I believe I am classified as a "problem drinker", basically when I start I can't stop sometimes for days on end. I can go days or even weeks (getting rarer and rarer unfortunately) without touching a drink but then when I do it's a slippery slope downhill. I have spent nights in the cells (both in the UK and in Bkk) because of being drunk and disorderly, I have been beaten up, have lost numerous possession both expensive and of sentimental value, numerous relationships have been destroyed and that's not to mention the huge amount of money I have wasted and the damage to my health all due to alcohol.

Basically I need some help asap. Particularly on Friday and Saturdays. I live alone and so the temptation to go out "for one drink" is huge and 99.9% I will succumb and the vicious circle will start again. However I don't have the confidence to go to an AA meeting alone and my mates would just laugh at me if I even made such a suggestion.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated, either here or via PM.

    Thank you.

  5. Does anyone know if there are any good drink deals going on for the first England game (Monday 11th June) against les bleus? It's an 11pm ko here so that rules out any happy hours sad.png

    Cheap Charlie alert.

No thanks, Cheap Charlies is too hot and they don't have any TV screens. Thanks for the suggestion anyway wink.png

Soi 11? I use to drink there for a bit many years ago.

Yep, I much preferred the old Pickled Liver around the corner, shame it moved!

  7. We are looking for a few internet savvy people to place adverts for us on various freelisting websites.

This work is only part time and would particularly suit Thai, Fillipino or Indian people who have good English skills.

    Please PM for more details.

  8. I already play squash once or twice a week, mid week. But I would like to play more regularly and so need to find some more squash partners. Plus it's always good to vary your partners to improve your game! I'm by no means an expert, around the low intermediate level I would assume.

I currently play at Piyarom (Udom Suk), so am happy to play there or anywhere else near a BTS station.

    Cheers!

  9. There's a good pool of a decent size between On Nut soi 44 - 46 on the right hand side as you're going up from Suk. There is a good gym upstairs as well. Only 80baht per time or you can get a monthly membership for about 1000bht.

Piyarom Sports Club (Punawithee BTS) has the best pool(s) I've seen in Bkk, but you have to be a member and it's not particularly cheap!

  10. Hi,

Please can you report after having checked hotels there ?

    Thank you.

Hi guys, just to let you know that I stayed at the Diamond Inn during the last long weekend. My overall experience was pretty good! Rooms were a little old but nice big balconies overlooking the pool and the sea and only 1000baht on the Friday and 1,200baht on the Saturday. Swimming pool was nice too, if a little chilly! 11. Check the Bangkok Post. I saw an ad in for car rental @ 590baht a day.

Thanks Mr Buffalo, will check the Bkk Post today for that ad.

Budget Rent a car - cheap pickups(nisson) with front and back seats - stick shift.

Will bring the car to you.

My American drivers licence accepted - never a problem yet.

Tried budget rent a car and the cheapest on offer was 5,700baht. Not too bad, but I think I will look around for an even cheaper quote!

  12. Does anyone know where I can rent a reliable and reasonably priced car in Bangkok? I need one for 5 - 6 days for next week. A cheap pick up or something like that would be fine. I tried to search the car rental service here on TV but it didn't seem to work!

    Cheers :jap:

  13. Not sure now, but with paypal the problem used to be when transferring funds into your Thai bank account.

The exchange rates used (US$ to B or € to Baht) was horrible, resulting in a defacto much higher cost.

Unless one can now charge directly in Baht (making the exchange the customer's problem).

Hi Monty and many thanks for your input. I have heard that the exchange rates with Paypal are not particularly good at the best of times too! If I had for example a payment from a Japanese customer for 39,000 Yen (approx $500), would I be likely to be getting more "value for my money" (after fees and exchange rate has been done into Thai Baht) with Paypal or Thaiepay?

  14. Paypal seems to be reasonable, but kindly note that you need a work permit if you conduct this business in Thailand.

Thanks for your reply Tom and yes I and all my associates have work permits. (Not sure of the relevance to my OP though!)

I pay 2.4% + $0.30 with Paypal. Paypal makes it really easy compared to setting up payment processing through a bank. Paypal can be up and working in 1 day if you know how to integrate it.

The Paypal commission can fall too, when you surpass $5000 per month revenue and further higher benchmarks.

Thanks for the info regarding Payapl Dan. I'm thinking this is still our best option. Does anyone have any experience in using Thaiepay??

  15. I have a small online business and very soon I will need a system to be able to receive online payments from credit cards and Paypal.

So far my research has led me to two potential merchant systems: 1. A Paypal Business Account - transaction fee 3.4%

    2. A Thaiepay account - transaction fee 4%

Does anyone have any actual experience of using these set ups to receive online payments and if so how did you find them? I am thinking the Paypal setup would be better as then I can accept payment from customers with Paypal accounts as well as those without but who have a credit card.

Any information would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

  16. Hi guys, can anyone recommend a mid range hotel or guesthouse in Bangsaen that has a decent wifi setup. Balconies overlooking the sea are most welcome too!

I've tried looking online but all I can see is bottom range guesthouses with no wifi or rather expensive high end hotels but nothing in between!

    Cheers in advance.

  17. Hi guys, thanks very much for your replies and information. Since posting this morning I have found out about meetings of AA from the aaThailand organisation. I should have said I am based in Bkk, which is good in the fact that there are quite a few different meeting times and venues. Abstinence is what I am seeking as drinking in moderation just isn't usually possible for me.

Anyway, thanks once again for all your help and support, tomorrow I will give my first AA meeting a try.

  18. I am now completely at my wits end at how I can stop my binge drinking. It is effecting my life very seriously now. To give you an idea, basically, my social circle tends to go out drinking at the weekends, I am always the last one standing and continue drinking alone long after my friends have gone home. I have been arrested and spent a night in the cells here, got into fights, had blackouts of more than 6hours, had large amounts of cash stolen, these are just some of the things that have happened to me in the last 6 months in Thailand whilst being drunk. I am not normally a violent person, but drinking seems to bring out the worst in me on most occasions. I can go days or even weeks with no drink, but once I have one drink, I want one more and more...

I am now seriously considering going to AA to get some help. Ive tried taking medication that makes you feel sick when drinking, but I just stopped taking it when the urge to drink became too strong. Ive heard varying reports about AA, regarding the friendliness, helpfulness of their meetings so I am a little apprehensive. I just want to get my life back so any help would be immensely appreciated.

  19. I'm sure there'll be a few profitable teacups full being swigged from around the place.

Only from the desperate and stupid.

The postee says he is "coming down" with a few friends, down from where Bangkok?

    Yes, Bkk is correct.

Get a few drinks in and have a chat at your house and have a chat or is it the prostitutes you are after, in that case same suggestion stay at home as their are none worth taking in Hua Hin.

Thanks for informing me about the state of the "working girls" in Hua Hin, actually we all have gf's and are just after a few relaxing alcoholic beverages in bars and not at home!

So the basic answer is no, they won't be open I'm guessing!?

  20. Hi guys, was just wondering if beer bars, Hilton Hotel bar, Karaoke bars etc will be open this Friday and serving alcohol? Me and a few friends who have not seen each other for a while are planning to come down on Friday and would hate to arrive and see everywhere not serving!

    Cheers in advance.

  21. Work Permit or receipt from the Ministry of Labour would be required.

Actually that's not the case as I have acquired 3 non immigrant B visas (from Singapore, Hanoi and Phonm Phen) with previous jobs (with previous work permit being cancelled) with no current WP or receipt. Heading back on topic, any links to a definitive list of documents to obtain a Non Immigrant B would be great (preferably for the embassy in Vientiane). Previously the Thai staff at my previous jobs knew exactly what documents were necessary, but unfortunately that is not the case now!!

Any info would be much appreciated (please no topics regarding the work permit etc!)

    Thanks in advance!
