  1. My brother had something similar happen to him but he lived though he was never the same. The guy got 3.5 years in wrong jail for him my brothers good buddy was serving time in same place. The guy that destroyed my brothers life ended serving his time in a wheelchair. And still in it years later. My brother passed away because of medicine he took to keep him alive was cancer causing.

An eye for an eye simply does NOT work. Death sentence does NOT work. Frustrating it may be, but the only thing that will work is raising our children with empathy. Yet excesses like this horrible murder will happen again. We can only try to make it happen less. There are no quick solutions.

The death penalty does not work 100% as a deterrent but it does work 100% to prevent repeat offenders.

Wish I never watched that video.

It should serve as a warning. don`t get into any road rage disputes in Thailand.

I cant understand why the older man did not fight back the out come may of been a lot different, you generally find people are not so willing to continue kicking you if you fight back. poor man was a victim. RIP

Did you watch the video? His leg was trapped under his motorcycle and after he got kicked in the head the second time it looked like he was unconscious.

  3. I just got my phone bill of over 1600 baht. I could not figure out why my phone bill is so high since I had not been calling anyone and my kids all have their own phones.

Soooo I looked at the online call details on the AIS website.

My bill only showed 37 baht worth of phone calls with no charge shown because they were covered by my 200 baht monthly package. Then I looked at the 2 previous months and they had charges of around 1,000 baht each month with call usage of only around 50 baht.

Then I called customer service and was informed that I get charged for sms advertising that other companies send me but none of those charges show up on the usage details.

I told them that it is crazy that I get charged for advertisers to send me an sms. They then said they would stop all advertising to my phone and refund the charges for the last 3 months. I have no idea how long they have been charging me for these but I have been getting them for a long time. I can't even imagine how much money AIS has gotten out of me over the years

Any way i thought since I was not aware of this until now that there may be others that are not aware this is happening so if you get an advertising sms make sure you have the company stop them.

  4. Going to the malls seems more like they are taking a shopping trip. Especially since most schools sell their uniforms at the school at any price they deem suitable. Only university kids buy clothes for school on the street or at malls. It seems this article is only trying to help the DIT director save face by making a show of this

the only clothes they sell at the school are the special uniforms like the sports clothes and the friday thai clothes. The shorts and white shirts are usually bought at stores like tesco and big C or markets.

  5. I go shopping twice a week usually.

Each time is about 2k baht.

Cheap really. Don't bother looking at the prices, you see some people scouring their receipt, what a crappy way to live.

Sometimes you get charged the wrong amounts. One day at makro my receipt ended up being 1500 baht more than I figured it should and found an item that was actually 150 baht was rung up at 1500 baht so it is a good idea to pay attention to prices unless you can afford to throw your money away for nothing.

  6. I live in phuket and relatively young compared with most here and I hate songkran. So many stupid foreigners who throw a full bucket of water as hard as they can at your head and try and knock you off your motorbike!!!

This won't happen as I stay indoors all the time, but I can assure you that if any Farang threw water at me, he would be sucking his food through

    a straw for weeks.

Anyone with half a brain knows it is going to happen so when I am out on the motorbike during sonklan I do not try to avoid the water that is thrown by speeding up or swerving. That is how most of the accidents happen. I drive slow and stop to let them poor water on me then go on my merry way.

Stopping and trying to be a tough guy would definitely not be the answer since there is always a group throwing the water.

  7. What do you define as traditional Thai values?

Western values adopted by Phibun Songkram or Thai values that evolved over countless generations?

Or in other words, should girls be allowed to take their tops off?

To be fair if guys are allowed to take their tops off then girls should be allowed to. There is an old woman that walks around our neighborhood without her top every now and then. I guess she is either too old to remember her top, living in the past or just too old to care.

  8. I guess that I am one of the very lucky ones. Me 66, fiancé 43. She loves lobster but won't let me buy it for her. I tell her "don't worry, it's my money". She says "I don't care, it's too expensive of a meal". We selected an engagement ring, she wanted to find one for less (it really wasn't all that expensive to start with). I hand her my money when we travel. I never have to think about disbursements or dishonesty. I want to tip for wonderful Thai service. She says "that is too much" and gives her country people less of my money (I don't approve). I offer to buy her clothes when we are shopping for me in Thailand. She won't let me. But I did buy her a tankless hot water heater (big deal, $250 of my money). I smile every time I shower in her little home and read the felt pen writing on the heater "Gift from Ray". But this Thai lady makes me smile a lot. I am the lucky one.

My ex wife was like that for the first 5 years of our relationship but it was drastically different for the next 11 years.

Here we are...wishing more Thai people could speak english, but making fun of them when they do. I don't remember one Thai person that ever made fun of me when I mangled my Thai phrases. If they did, it would humiliate me, and make me want to stop trying.

    Who studied in the USA?

I'm just glad that he tried to speak English.. More Thais should try it AND more foreigners should desist from commenting harshly when the Thais try it!

Couldn't agree more with you casualbiker. It seems all Thais, regardless of their station in life are going to mocked and ridiculed by some of the members here for trying to speak English. Of course these keyboard warriors know-it-alls speak Thai with 100% fluency and can't be ridiculed by the Thais and therefore feel no shame about hypocrisy.

You both make a valid point. We can't really expect Thai people to speak perfect English, and should be glad when they make the attempt. Dear Leader has been a military man his whole life and I wouldn't really expect him to speak much English at all. He's never had the incentive to learn it. I just gave the Yingluck example in the interest of balance; we shouldn't be biased about this sort of thing should we?

In order for the comparison to be balanced then the english education level should be the same. Yingluck is ridiculed for her lack of English because , as already mentioned, she has a degree from the USA. In my opinion it is not logical to hold any thai that has not obtained a degree from an english speaking country to the same standards. I have met thais that have lived in the USA for several years and had very little english skills because they came to the usa late in life and stayed around the thai community. However the thais in the same family that attended school for at least a year spoke pretty good english.

I would expect the same from any native english speakers in thailand. Those that live and associate with english speaking people will have very little thai ability but those that obtain a degree from a thai university should speak thai fluently.

  10. Thank you for the reply wormfarmer. Wouldn't putting the worm casting directly into the tank plug up my drip feed system ?

I have been reading about the difference between leachate and tea but what I was actually thinking of at the time was what i saw at Mae Jo University where they had a tank of worms with no dirt that they put vegetables in every day and the liquid drained into a tank every day that bottled to sell for fertilizer.

I didn't think that method would allow for the worms to reproduce so I was thinking of having a worm bed that would also create the worm castings for leachate and tea.

The main question that I had was if I fed the cucumber plants to the worms when the harvest was complete would that take any diseases that some of the plants had and spread that to all of my other plants? Would the worms eating the plants destroy any diseases?

  11. Hello.

I am growing cucumbers hydroponically using a drip to waste system and every day have some that are not salable due to various reasons. I was thinking of getting some worms to feed the cucumbers to make worm tea then putting the worm tea in the nutrient tank. I was also thinking that the cucumber plants could be fed to the worms at the end of each crop.

I was wondering if this would be a good idea or would just cause any diseases to spread more quickly negating any benefits from the free worm tea nutrients?

    Thanks for any input.

  12. "Price of foreign coloured brandy will rise by between 5.23 and 8.49 baht per bottle"

Is this REALLY a crippling price hike?

I dont expect ANY answers to this, anyway!

    cheesy.gif

    Edit

I doubt the poor farmers drink this.

    cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Last night I bought a few bottles of Leo....the shopkeeper told me that today, Sunday, she would be raising her price to 70 baht from 65.

Leo is 55 baht in all the shops around here.

  13. you dont understand her mentality? to be honest i dont understand your mentality allowing her so much control and allowing her to abuse that control to the detriment of your relationship with her, your marriage, your son and your own life and finances. but that's in the past.

the marriage is finished and you would be a fool to invest any more money in it even if you feel up to investing more emotion in it.

if your son has british citizenship and you feel you can take care of him in the UK then take him there.

if he has thai citizenship then he'll be staying here. and you have to decide if you are staying or not.

Does not matter if he thinks he can take care of his son, he brought the boy into the world and now MUST raise him alone, away from the rape and torture and ultimate sex slave trade she will sell him too

What is wrong with you people who advise him otherwise

If the kid has a passport from UK, leave today

Immigration has no authority to stop him, yet

I dont think this is true.He would need the mother's consent.

If the kid flew into thailand on the UK passport he can fly back out again without the mothers consent. If asked he can always say the mother is in the UK.

In any case I have flown with my kids several times. On a brand new passport with no stamps I had to have the mother fax a consent letter to immigration. When using passports with stamps in it already there were no questions asked.

  14. oil service stations to legally offer battery charging service.

Not entirely sure if they really understand how electric vehicles are primarily changed.

Mostly not while parked for an hour at a petrol station...

    640px-BetterPlaceEVsCharging.JPG

If the government decreed parking garages have a certain percentage of parking spots reserved exclusively for electrics and had charging posts, people would stay at the malls longer while waiting for their charge. Install parking meters that pay for and provide charging everywhere practical. The traffic is so stop-and-go in Bangkok that taxis would hardly need a charge during a shift as they use almost no electrics while stopped and can also benefit from regenerative braking. Replaceable battery packs would mean virtually no down-time for them, also, as the battery packs could be charging while the taxis are out; they could even rush a fresh battery pack, via motorcycle, if a taxi got dangerously low. A few government incentives and decrees to facilitate adoption of electric cars would go a long way towards improving air quality and noise abatement. Thailand is well-suited to get the vast majority of its electricity from solar sources. The Germans have only a fraction of the sunlight that Thailand has and yet they now produce up to 50% of their electricity from solar power. http://theweek.com/speedreads/451299/germany-gets-50-percent-electricity-from-solar-first-time

Yingli & Huawei To Jointly Expand Solar Power In Thailand http://cleantechnica.com/2014/12/23/yingli-huawei-jointly-expand-solar-power-thailand/

I've been looking at electric motorcycles for a few years and they are finally getting affordable/practical in the US. If I could import one into the Kingdom without having to pay a large duty, I probably would.

I saw electric motorcycles for sale here a couple of years ago but they were pretty expensive.

  15. It's about 13000 baht per month or 430 a day. It is possible but incredibly low.

If all your food and accommodation is paid for you could do it. Find out what is the food, can you eat it ? Are drinks included you will spend 100 -200 a day possibly just on liquid non alcoholic refreshment. Is electricity/ air con included ? Are visa fees included, travel ?

Gyms in malls cost about 2000 b per month but they are small gyms in parks for 5/10/20 baht. In Chonburi anyway.

Nightclubs are out really, maybe once or twice a month, maybe some very cheap local ones, but good Thai ones or tourist ones are 300 baht a drink or you can get whisky by the bottle and buy mixers which is cheaper but tourist places the whisky starts at about 1500 but you could share with friends.

Chiang Mahi maybe a lot cheaper but I don't know personally.

And if you want a woman get a 25 or 30 plus rich bit or you will be broke very soon.

Make sure you have full medical insurance that covers everything and flights home if needed or you will be well and truly screwed if something happens, you can't afford a half decent private hospital.

"Are drinks included you will spend 100 -200 a day possibly just on liquid non alcoholic refreshment. Is electricity/ air con included ?" A liter of apple juice is only 62 baht, 1.5 liter of pepsi is about 29 baht and he can get 9 liters of bottled water for about 60 baht. It would be pretty easy for someone on a budget to get their non alcoholic beverage needs taken care of for a lot less than 100-200 baht a day.

  16. One you set a minimum rate market forces are no longer in control.

Somewhere down the track, minimum wages or award rates will be more than the market can bear and you have the situation most of the Western faces. It is mute to have the best industrial award rates when that particular industry has collapsed and no longer employs anybody.

If anyone doesn't believe you, direct them to look at France.

    I don't.

    I did.

    I still don't.

In order to promote your failed Communist dogma, you have to be intentionally blind to it defects. I understand you have your mission so I won't try to 'enlighten' you.

I am not promoting communism but any person that thinks market forces will control wages for the betterment of both companies and workers should read up on carnegie steel mill and the problems the USA had with coal mines in the 1800's.
