    Lets hope this is the start of some good news for some of us being able to return to Thailand but I do have a few questions if someone is able to help me out;

I am a UK passport holder currently working overseas in Afghanistan, I have a Non O with extension of stay based on retirement and a multi entry permit valid until early February.

Under normal circumstances I would simply fly out from Afghanistan to Dubai and then fly on to Thailand, but under the new requirements would I have to fly back to the UK and get a COE from the Thai Embassy in London prior to traveling to Thailand?

Does the COE application require a personal visit to the Embassy or is this something that can be arranged online or via email?

I do have seasoned finances in a Thai Bank Account but I would need to arrange the medical insurance cover for the Covid requirement, can anyone suggest a good insurance broker and cost, and how long would the policy would need to be valid for? I ask this question because I already have my own international medical insurance but I am not sure it would meet some of the stipulations that have been previously suggested.

I would like to thank you in advance for any constructive comments ????

Wayne, I looked at the MFA website and it looks like you can apply for the COE in Afghanistan via the Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad.  Good luck.

  2. I have seen a few small ones washed up on the shore as I walk along the beach the last two weeks, then last week I got stung on my belly and right hand.  I watched the waters as I walked out to deeper water and never saw it, but as soon as I stopped and turned around it floated up into my belly.  I would be very careful, though there were others in the water without problems.  I was at the area of Condochain where I live.

  3. I want to have an allergy test to confirm if I am indeed allergic to Penicillin as I was told as a child.  I am due to have a prostate Biopsy and if I am allergic to Penicillin I have to stay overnight in the hospital so they can give me antibiotics (I assume intravenously) and monitor for adverse reactions.

I checked with all three hospitals in Hua Hin and none offer this test.  The last specialist I talked to said I would need to go to an academic hospital for the test, so I am looking for recommendations of this type of hospital in Bangkok.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Mmm.. I can show a HH address but my car plates are not Prachuap (or Bkk), this is also what worries me.

Currently it is ok to travel between provinces, but if you do, when you return you would need to self isolate for 14 days or go get tested.  That is what I was told when I went to register that I had returned to PKK province after March 15th, had a nice 4 day Island trip before the madness started.

If he is in the US now he will not be able to get a non-o visa anywhere while there. They do not issue them.

His only choice will be to either apply for a single entry tourist visa or enter visa exempt. Then apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration. Then during the last 30 days of the 90 days apply for a new extension of stay based upon retirement.

Joe, a friend of mine is under the impression he can get a Non-O from the Thai consulate in New York.  Looking at the following website, it does appear to be available.  You have to drill down to find the visa page, but this is what it says...

    http://www.thaiconsulnewyork.com/

    NON-IMMIGRANT VISA

VISA FEE               US$80 (Single Entry) US$200 (Multiple Entry)(Cash or US

                                Postal Service money order only)

PERIOD OF STAY     Permitted up to 90 days

EXTENSION OF STAY  The extension is allowed up to one year since your entry into Thailand. You must file a request at the Office of Immigration Bureau before your authorized stay expires. Extending your stay and changing the type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer. Find out the Immigration Office near where you stay in Thailand.

    APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

    1. Visa application form (DOWNLOAD)

    2. One passport-size photograph (2” x 2”) taken not more than 6 months.  The photograph must show a light color background with a full-face view without wearing a hat or dark glasses.

    3. Required documents to be submitted.  To fine out your list of documents, please click at the corresponding purpose of your travel in the provided table below.

Is this the official website for the consulate? Or if it is official, is the information out of date?

  6. Has anyone tried to get a new license with a Residence Certificate from outside of Chiang Mai.  I live in Hua Hin and will be visiting Chiang Mai for the month of November.   While there I hope to take the Honda Safety training course and then apply for a new motorbike license (never ridden a motorcycle before).  I believe with the certificate from Honda I would not need to do the practical test.  I don't know if the LTO office I would need to go to close to Hua Hin would honor that training certificate.

  7. In Hua Hin I did the combo method in May.  I was instructed to keep 400k in the bank for the next three months after I got my extension.  My income per month totals to more the 400k, so it seems to be that at least here the 400k is the minimum needed

in the bank.  As CM and perhaps other offices stopped doing the combo method it is best to ask your immigration office if they acceptthe combo method.

  8. I am curious if anyone has had this done in Thailand and what the costs were.  Both my big toenails are very curved and can be tender, and the skin has grown very high on the nail making it impossible to cut short.  After reading this thread I am now considering getting them removed, will do more research on the web to see if this is the direction I want to go.

  9. About 2 weeks ago I went back to Bangkok Bank for the 3rd or was it the 4th time.  I got a different staff worker who is the one that opened my account for me.  She did not mention the need to use the existing Bangkok Bank direct deposit form, nor did she say I would need to open a new account for the direct deposit.  She gave me a slip of paper with the Bank's address and routing number and printed and signed a document verifying the account.  I submitted that document along with the form from Social Security with the bank information filled in but not signed by the bank.  I explained in the email to SS Manila that the bank would not sign the new form but provided me a letter guaranteeing the account.  I was not sure if the lack of signature would be an issue but figured it was worth a try.  I was in Koh Chang last week and got an email stating they received my documents and to allow 1-2 months processing time.  I logged into the MY Social Security account today and the banking information has already been updated.  I expect the change to take place for the September payment.  Next task will be how to show these as international transfers as from what I have read they do not show that way on the bank books.

  10. I went back to Bangkok Bank yesterday intent to go along with the account restrictions and set up IDD.  I had hoped they could just convert my current account so all my transfers before switching to  IDD would be in the same account as those using IDD.  They told me I had to open a new account, so we started to do that.  She took my passport and the IDD form from SS Manila to the back.  She came back with a bunch of paperwork (common for opening a new account), but told me I had to use their Direct Deposit form and not the IDD form.  She said she called headquarters and was told to use their current form.

I did not open an account at that time and will continue to do Transferwise transfers until I can find a bank willing to use and sign the new form.  I will also call the Bangkok Bank headquarters, hoping I can talk to someone who speaks English well.  I also sent an email to SS Manila to ask if the bank signature was really necessary due to the Bank's unwillingness to sign the new IDD form, but don't really expect to get a response

  11. Mel52, thanks for your reply, the form I have has a place for the Bank official to print their name and provide their signature, did your contact at SCB sign your form?  Krungsri said they could not sign it.  As to Bangkok Bank, they have a standing policy (probably just for them) that for direct deposit from Social Security you have to use an account without a debit card so you have to go in person to withdraw your money, I think this was a fraud prevention measure they implemented.
