  1. I sent an email to the Manila office last night before I went back and read the last couple of months posts in this thread asking them what i needed to do.  I was surprised to get a reply this morning already.  They attached the form I need to fill out and told me to scan it and email back to them.

I filled out the form and took it to Bangkok Bank and was told that I would still need to use an account that does not have an atm card, so at least here in Hua Hin it seems all the restrictions they placed on the accounts for the ACH direct deposit apply to IDD accounts.  They also told me they could not sign the form I had, since I had planned to use another bank if those restrictions were in place I did not ask why they could not sign it.

I then went to Krungsri where I have two savings accounts and they also told me they could not sign a document that they did not generate.  She told me they could print out a document and stamp it but could not sign my form.  Has anyone else run into this issue and if so how did you resolve it?  If not which banks have others used that were able to get them to fill out and sign that section of the form?

    sorry Confucius  reigns.....January missed

You might still be able to get 12 transfers in if you do one in January 2020 before you apply for the extension.  I think I read that the transfers all need to be made around the same time each month so if you have been doing your transfers at the beginning of the month you should still be able to get 12 transfers completed before you apply for the extension.

Jomtien     My extension starts January   24 ,but I missed  last Decembers 65000,so only 11 months       but the description  '  combination of the two ' lump sum and monthly income,  never had an answer

If you make transfers from January 2019 to next December 2019 , that is 12 transfers.

Forgive me I fail to see how that can be interpreted as a new rule???? Its nowhere in there????

That is why I said it was a requirement not a rule, as we know many offices make up there own requirements outside of the letter of the law.  Also the requirement is not new, I had to draw a map the first time I did an extension 3 years ago.

try and do the Combo method without the Embassy letter and this would  not have worked.  i plan on using my SS letter and and my bank book with letter from the bank.  i have been advised to  use an agent if they do not accept a perfectly legal United States government document.

To use the combo method without an embassy letter, you need to make monthly transfers from overseas into your Thai bank account which is what I am doing for next year.  The social security letter might be used/required in some immigration offices as prove of the source of the monthly transfers. The social security letter without the monthly transfers will not work, the new rule is clear that for the income method (which you will be using for part of the financial requirement) has to have monthly transfers into a Thai bank account.

Are you sure he didn't just use the 800K to process your application?

If not how is the difference, combo method, recorded?

No real way to know for sure since we can't see their computer entries, but when he was going to do the 800k method, he handed the Embassy letter back to me, after the discussion he took it back and included it in the paperwork and the fact he told me I only needed to keep the 400k in the bank for 3 months.  Guess will find out next year for sure.

I'll see if I can post a picture of the product later in the week (not at home now), but if you do a Google image search for "Cypionax" you will see what I am talking about. It seems to be made by a real Thai pharmaceutical company, not by any kind of "underground" lab. But again, I haven't used it yet, so I can't comment on its effectiveness from experience.

I switched to Cypionax when the Testoviron ran out, as to how it works, I had to adjust my dosage down to half a vial per week (which seems to be around the recommended level) as my T levels went over 1000.  I am in Hua Hin

IMO using an agent for your next renewal will leave you in the same position as the OP - you have broken the rules and your next renewal will be rejected - further penalties unknown

An agent right now will take your money - will they guarantee your next renewal when you have obviously broken the rules ? they might tell you  "no problem" as you hand them 20k baht - no risk to them

That is the big question that nobody can answer right now

My guess is the agents will find a way to process the application next year otherwise those (agents) who survive on the large payoffs will be out of business after this year.  Just the same as the immigration officials who accept the payoffs will want to continue to accept the payoffs after this year thus they will find a way with the agents to continue the process.

In the past many people (Thai and non-Thai) have evaded paying this tax by simply opening multiple accounts and never allowing them to individually accrue 20000 interest. Banks never reported the collective interest accrued in all accounts. Now the Revenue Department intends to collect the tax if the total interest of all of the individual's accounts by having banks report on every account.

I have two savings accounts with Krungsri Bank, I noticed yesterday that the account with my 800k in it, has had taxes taken out the last two months.  I talked to the bank today (Hua Hin) and they informed me that the national bank or something now requires them to take taxes out monthly for all non Thai accounts, instead of waiting until you have accumulated 20k in interest.

Has anybody else heard of or experienced this in the past couple of months.  I don't know if it is because I recently opened a new savings account for the 800k.

  10. Maybe I am reading the op incorrectly but if you have to return to show that the 400,000 is still in the bank on May 29 that’s long before a three month post extension seasoning period ends.  Maybe it’s to make sure you still have the money before they give you the approved extension since you are currently in the “under consideration” period.

Madness ! So need to take money out or put money in account on day of application! Why? And I understood it is 800,000 for 2 months before application not 3 !

In my mind, the reason to have the bankbook updated with a new entry just prior to doing your renewal is to verify the seasoning requirement.  If the last entry in your bankbook is 2 or 3 months old there is no way to prove your balance never went below the required amount (you could have made a withdrawal taking the balance below 800k and topped it up at a later date).  The Bank letters I got never mentioned the seasoning of the account just the balance on the day of the letter.

  12. OP, if you still want to consider using the agent, I would call them, perhaps they did not want to provide a lot of details in an email.  Get clarity on everything you need to provide and how they will process your extension.  If you are 10 hours away from the agent the biggest question to ask is which immigration office would they process the extension at, as that would be the office you would need to do 90 day reports and probably other immigration related activities.  Best of luck to you.

  13. I would like to know if anyone has used the Varilux X series progressive lenses.  I have a friend who really likes them. They use a new technology where as I understand it, there are many honeycombed like spots on the lenses for each distance type so you don't have to look through a certain area of the glasses to see correctly.  I am still researching to see if this type of lense is suitable for me.

First question, If you have or had them what did you think about them.

Second question, I know I can get them in Chiang Mai, is anyone aware of any opticians in Bangkok area or south of Bangkok they are available.  I live in Hua Hin and would love to find a closer source than Chiang Mai if I can (I already checked with Dr. Pairat and he is unaware of these lenses).  I have to go to Rutnin Hospital in Bangkok in 3 weeks to get my eyes checked again (had cornea transplant there in 2016) and also have them tested for new glasses.

    Thanks for any responses.

    Scott

  14. When I first moved to Thailand I initially landed in Cha Am, on the first day after I found a townhouse to rent I mentioned to the lady managing (not owning) the townhouse that I was going to go open a bank account at Bangkok Bank.  She said she would go with me.

She gave them a copy of her ID and probably house book (not sure at that time) and in very short time I had an account opened.  I was in the country at the time on a Visa Exempt stamp, not any type of visa.  So I guess my experience shows the use of a "customer" of Bangkok Bank to use as a reference can work.

They spoke mostly in Thai, so I don't know what was or was not said, but if I remember correctly, the whole thing took about 20 minutes

I like the products but hard to deal with. They know by my name I am a farung but none of the drivers speak english or are impatient with my bad Thai so delivery is hell. They just hang up and take it back to the office. I find the fact the site does not allow you to copy stupid. I want to copy the reviews and paste them into google translate but some dumb IT guy has decided I cant.

What are you having trouble copying and pasting.  I just randomly picked two products in two different categories and was able to copy and paste both product details and reviews.  I am on Windows 7 and use Firefox browser.

Yes I read that. That is what made me question the path I am on. Originally I did not know about the OA visa and since have investigated it properly and can get one with no issue in quick time but I have to arrive on the 30 day exemption. If I had of known when I was in Bangkok last month I would have done it then..

You apply for the OA visa in your home country not in Thailand so perhaps you still have time to do that before your next trip, then you don't need to apply for a Non-O in Thailand.
