  1. Hey guys,

My apartment has no wifi and I do not want to use hotspot from my phone as it gets very slow after it reaches the limit.

I have heard that you can buy WiFi from TRUE corporation from any 7 Eleven.

This may be a very silly question, but can I use a TRUE WiFi router for my apartment if my mobile phone network operator is not TRUE?

Also, any idea how much buying a WiFi router is and the monthly charge?

Do I need to sign a yearly contract as I would in the UK?

It's times like these that I wish I could speak Thai fluently so I could ask the 7 Eleven staff myself ?

    Is it your dominant hand?

I developed this under my right arm which is my dominant and I can only control it with the industrial strength sprays.  Try and get some perspi guard,  it’s great stuff although can sting and leave a rash but it does work.

    Thanks for the reply @Stevetaylor123.

    No I am right handed.

Ok I will check out this product, which store sells it?

  3. About a month and a half ago, I started sweating excessively from my left armpit.

This has continued every day since then, and I mean serious sweating with sweat dripping down my left arm.

I am in Bangkok but I do not believe this issue to be temperature related as even sitting in an air conditioned room all day I have this problem, and I have been in Bangkok for ages.

I have Google searched the problem and tried everything from trimming armpit hairs to eating bananas more often to ensure I am getting enough magnesium.

What puzzles me is why my right armpit and the rest of my body does not seem to sweat constantly but my left armpit does.

    2 questions:

    1. In England you can get some heavy duty anti perspirant from Boots, but I have looked here in Thailand and Boots just has the usual ones. Anyone know where I should look? Big C?

    2. Anyone have a hunch as to what is causing my left armpit only to sweat constantly even when I am not hot? From Google it appears to be "hyperhidrosis"

  4. Hi,

I am sorry if this has been asked before, hopefully I don't get abuse telling me to use the search function ?.

I have been here in Bangkok over 6 months now and I am looking for some health insurance in case I need to go to hospital in future.

I have done a fair bit of Google searching and it seems - please correct me if I am wrong - that there are the following options in Thailand:

    1. Health insurance for general non serious admissions to hospital for minor conditions

    2. Accident/emergency insurance (bagun orbutihet?) for emergency admission, operations etc.

My budget sadly is limited so at this stage I am looking for basic cover, which I will look to increase once I am earning a bit more.

I am wondering if fellow Thai Visa forum members could help me with:

    A. A link to any kind of articles or price comparison sites for Thai insurance in English language

    B. Any advice or suggestions for basic cover packages. I have heard AIA are good but a lot of info online is in Thai.

    Thanks all!

  5. Like many Thai people I know, I really like using the Joox app to listen to music.

However, recently I have had an issue where each time I click a song in a playlist, it will play another song and not the one I tap on.

It seems to be a bug where it always reverts to shuffle instead of loop playback. But each time I change it back, it changes again.

I have updated all apps on my phone earlier today.

Any tech guys on Thai Visa that have experience with this app?

    Cheers.

  6. I am a non smoker and rarely drink.

Back in the UK I would get sick perhaps once a year eg. Due to a winter cold.

Here in Thailand, I seem to get sick around once every 2 months, sometimes more! ?

It is either one of 2 things that I usually get:

    1. Upset stomach presumably due to street food / water / ice cubed.

    2. Headache/bad fever, I guess due to the hot weather and the rainy season.

I have been in Thailand around a year now, will my body ever adapt? How often do you get sick here?

  7. I currently pay around 600 Baht per month for unlimited data, however it gets very slow after I have used a certain amount of GB.

The package is AIS Mao Mao and after VAT is just under 600 Baht per month

Normal phone calls are not included but I can top this up separately.

I am just wondering if anyone can suggest a package that has completely unlimited data with high speed all the time?

I do not need super fast - normally I use data for browsing social media, LINE voice calls and watching YouTube.

    Thank you in advance.

  8. Why is it that some (not all) extension leads have really stiff plug sockets?

I have had instances where I am attempting so hard to push an electricity plug into a socket on the extension, but it just will not go in.

I have seen a Thai man having this problem also.

However other extension cords are super easy and "normal" allowing me to insert the exact same plug in normally.

    Couple of questions:

    1. Has anyone else had this experience?

    2. Out of curiosity what is the reason for this issue? Is it as simple as some extension leads are poor quality?

One problem I often have with LINE is that sometimes, during a call, my own voice comes back a second or two later as an echo.

I redial and all is fine again -- only me?

No not just you I also get the annoying echo!

In a strange way it is kinda reassuring that someone else is experiencing the same issues as me

The call quality is dependent on so many different factors, the weather probably not being one, outside your control. Then remember that the called party also has similar factors, and so drop-outs are hardly surprising. The network (speed, latency, jitter), the phone's hardware, the microphone/speaker, the environment, how the phone handles interrupts/notifications, all are contributing factors.

I have to say though, when I use LINE for audio calls between the U.S. and Thailand, with both parties on WiFi with higher-end phones, the quality is shockingly good. Much better than circuit-switched calls (using toll bypass).

Phones have all sorts of methods for dealing with changing network requirements. Some have inherent (firmware) power-saving techniques to toggle up/down (3G <-> LTE) based on what you happen to be doing. And the phone is continuously negotiating with the network for service/bandwidth. For voice calls your phone may have to drop down to 3G, unless your phone, the network, and the called party's phone/network all support VoLTE.

Very comprehensive explanation mtls2005, thank you.

To be honest I have better experience with call quality on Messenger, but as you must know Thais prefer to use LINE.

  11. What is your experience with using LINE voice calls over a data connection?

With my 4G on my phone most of the time it works fine.

However other times I will be on a call and me and the other person will suddenly not hear 1 or 2 words in each sentence for example.

Bizarrely, just after I hang up, my phone will switch down from 4G to "H+", before shortly returning to 4G again.

I have an unlimited mobile data package.

Anything to do with the rain today or is that just a diversion from a software issue?

    Thanks.

  12. I need to buy a genuine antivirus software package.

I am aware of tech shopping centres such as Pantip and Fortune.

However my question is do I need to go there or are there reputable retailers elsewhere? Eg. I have seen a couple of "Banana IT" stores, are they trustworthy?

I do not want to buy online as I don't want to risk being sent something fake, and also I don't want to buy and pay for something online with just free Antivirus protection that I currently have.

    Thanks.

  13. Has anyone else had this issue:

Each and every time I go to update my bank book at the bank, I try first on the Bank Book Update machine... and every single time I get the "Magnetic Strip error" message.

The corner of the page always comes out creased and folded for some reason too.

I am fairly sure I am capable of inserting the bank book into the machine properly, so I am not too sure what keeps going wrong.

When I tell the staff they update it for me in branch. I ask them why this keeps happening and they just tell me to insert at the last page of entry which I already know.

    Any ideas folks?

I do stock up on certain things because for a week certain aspects of my daily routine change. For example, on a normal week most days I would  eat lunch at one of the local village restaurants but during Songkran they all shut down.  So I have to think ahead, and this normally evolves buying stuff to make sandwiches.

Also, Songkran week is the only time of year that I drink beer everyday (family parties every evening). So it makes sense to buy cases in advance rather than buy individual bottles daily from local shops.

I see. In Bangkok will there be any food stalls still open? I can understand those from upcountry may go home to spend time with their families.

  15. Hi

As you can probably tell I don't understand why some people suggest stocking up on supplies before Songkran.

Are you talking about particular products? As I thought 7 Eleven's open all day every day including holidays? (Please correct me if I am wrong).

Also with people leaving Bangkok, I would have thought it would be easier to do shopping in (non tourist areas) of Bangkok.

    Cheers

  16. Hi,

Since yesterday afternoon I have had a fairly bad upset stomach. I cannot remember eating anything out of the ordinary so can only assume it was the filter water from a food shop I went to.

This morning the diarrhoea got worse and I also started feeling very dizzy when standing up to the point I almost fainted.

I would rather try over the counter remedies instead of going to a hospital as I need to rest today.

    2 questions:

    1. Has anyone else felt dizzy with upset stomach / food poisoning? Any idea what the cause is? Eg. Dehydration or something else

    2. Apart from Imodium medicine and electrolyte drinks and water, is there anything else I should try to rehydrate and treat the upset stomach?

There seems to be a medicine called "Activated Charcoal" which some have mentioned.

    Thank you.

Same happens to me. Incoming LINE call might ring, might just get a notify, might not get anything for over an hour.

Just know, this isn't like an actual phone call where the VOICE network is handling the call. Voice apps like LINE utilize whatever DATA or INTERNET network is available, and are running as a 3rd-party APP. So the App is responsible for continuously checking back with the member server for notifications but trying to do it on a schedule that doesn't run the battery dead. Some data networks allow messages to be passed directly to the LINE app, but many networks don't allow this so it's up to the App to do 'polling' inquiries.

Another issue deals with the phone manufacturer giving preference to their voice apps, causing other 3rd-party apps issues when they need it.

My google-based voice apps work fine. Others I find hit-or-miss.

Thank you all for the replies. RichCor may I ask which particular apps you use for voice calling and if they are 100% free?
