Anybody know if Assist Thai Visa Services is closed on Monday-Tuesday (22nd-23rd) for holiday? Re-open on Wednesday?
No recorded message, no answering machine, no message on website,
Thanks.

If you're looking for fiber optic in Hang Dong District, it might be a long wait.
I'm told that 3BB fiber optic is up and running in the Kat Phayom (Phayom Market) area, but will not be available in Hang Dong area (Night Safari Intersection) for "quite some time."

Looking at the sign, another name for this bar is "Tukkata" ("Doll").

To Laos via Chiang Rai (Chiang Khong to Houayxay).
To Laos via Nan (Huai Kon to Muang Ngoen).
To Laos via Nong Khai (Nong Khai to Viangchan).
Road conditions? Visa? Perhaps GT Rider folks can advise.

I'd like to try this soap too. Is it an anti-bacteria deodorant soap? Tired of perfume soaps (Irish Spring) and creamy soaps (Dove). Open for suggestions.

Think the owner might just know what he is doing.....
Steve only successfully ran the Half moon for nearly a decade or so!!!!
Few staff problems,simple as that,so i gather.

If Steve can find staff like the two gals pictured on Chiangmai Foxy's avatar, problems solved!

My 3bb Premiere has been steady as usual.
2,500 baht/month, 5MB down, 1MB up, right?
-
If a more expensive 3BB package would increase my speeds I might spring for it, but I'm not so sure that it would. My 10 MB/s package usually maxes out somewhere around 5 to 6 MB/s and from about 4PM until after midnight about 50KB/s. If upgraded to the 20 MB/s package, I'm not so sure whether I would get twice those speeds or if it still get the same speeds.Answer: the internet in this country is satisfactory at best and typically mediocre for the most part. Like everything else here, you have to avoid going cheap to give yourself a fighting chance, but are not guaranteed stated speeds and consistency on the higher packages either. It also depends on your exchange and where you are located, and of course the ISP, with TOT consistently the biggest waste of space in the land.
I have a 3BB fixed IPA, 5MB/1MB, 3,000 baht/month. My hope was that this expensive plan (as I understand it, no no other users share the line) would minimize problems with disconnects, line drops, and narrow bandwidths. At the moment (8am), I am streaming video over the Internet (Slingbox) and my bandwidth is going bonkers! Swings from a 1200 Kbps to 80 Kbps! What's going on with 3BB? Am I getting my money's worth?
I don't think that having a fixed IP address means that you won't be competing with other 3BB users for bandwidth, it just means that your IP address won't ever change.
What advantage, then, would a static/fixed IP address provide? It was my understanding that I would not need to compete with other 3BB users for bandwidth, as a "shared" package subscriber would experience. If the (expensive) fixed IPA is not the answer, and I am beginning to believe this, what to do next? Cancel this 3BB plan and try something else?

Usually includes refuse collection, street lighting and regular mozzie gassing.
Mine in CM is currently 120bht/month.
Sounds good (inexpensive!). I pay three times that amount, but wouldn't mind paying 600-700 baht each month . . . . so long as everyone in the community paid the same! (The new policy, based on plot size, will take effect next month.)
Does everyone in your community pay 120bht/month?
-
Would be interesting to know how much people in different locations are paying per plot/wa.
Yes, indeed. Another variable, however, is the services provided to individual (non-common) properties. If the Homeowners Association spends more time and money on the larger plots, and less on the smaller plots, then the varying fee amounts makes good sense. Otherwise, with no individual services provided, then the association is setting the fees according to the "ability to pay," i.e., larger plot owners have more money and therefore should pay more for the same service.
In Virginia (USA), I lived in a housing development and all residents paid the same monthly fee amount, regardless of plot size, residence size, use of community swimming pool, clubhouse, tennis courts, etc.

Yes I heard the same, a Rimping Grocery in Maya Mall - which is close to Kasem Store in Nimmanhaemin, and this may affect his business, so perhaps good that Kasem is apparently moving over towards Suthep Road. Was out ti Promenada today. The Rimping there is supposed to be the largest one they have. If it is like the Mall the finale product should be spectacular.
The only down side to the place is I still haven't found their movie listings.
Is Rimping opening a store in the new Maya Mall?
I hope Kasem continues to prosper - the shop has served us well over many years, and they deserve ongoing success.
I gather there are more Rimping Groceries to follow - this apparently is the sense behind the "And beyond" tag line on the posters and billboards around town.
Eagerly awaiting the opening of a Rimping branch in Mae Hia Market (Irrigation Canal Road).
Anybody heard when this one will be opening?

Yes. I have 2 plots with only 1 house. I pay double.
Thanks

Is the fee you pay based on number of plots or size of plots?
Thanks.

Is it common for homeowners living in housing developments in and around Chiang Mai to be charged a monthly homeowner fee or dues according to the area of their property? A homeowner with 400 tarang wa of land would pay more homeowners dues than his neighbor with 200 tarang wa. Is this common?
The homeowners association employs a full-time maintenance man who maintains the common areas (grass, shrubs, trees, streetlights, water pump and tower, etc.), but does not provide any services to individual homeowners.

What's the latest best deal with AIS for my Samsung Galaxy Note II?
Thanks!

Freshly delivered baguettes - that sounds awesome
Daily home-delivered baguettes is commonplace in Laos (Vientiane, Savannakhet, etc.), and has been for decades. Customers include Farang's, Vietnamese's, and Lao's (!)

Sausage king can do it but you maybe in a Que as he is a busy man. I eat their 2-3 times a week.I will go their for breakfast tomorrow so what is the deal ?Who will buy the wood chips etc ?
If Rob at Sausage King (in San Sai) is agreeable, then his customers who would like to try his smoked salmon, trout, or other seafood will be in for a real treat, I am certain!
Where to find a steady supply of the proper wood chips (langan/lamyai wood, cherry wood, apple wood, coconut husks, etc.)? Veteran smokers like zeichen, jagi00, and rsokolowski may already have good local sources for these woods, and can share this information with Rob and with us.
I will have a big chunk of salmon ready to bring to Sausage King whenever I learn that SK is ready.
Excuse misspelling of "longan" in previous post. This term is a Chinese term for the fruit we better know in Thailand as "lamyai." The Chinese term translates as "dragon eyes" in English. Gulp!

While waiting for a member to report on a source of smoked meats and fish in Chiang Mai, my preference remains in finding a place to buy the finished product, rather than learning how to make it myself.
Any entrepreneurs out there?
-
Are there restaurants in Chiang Mai that feature smoked meats and fish?
How about private smokers who "cold smoke" salmon using lamyai wood? For sale?
If not, I guess I'll have to roll out the grill, fire it up, and get some lamyai wood!

I smoke my own fish and meat , I also cure my own meat and make my own bacon and hams .
I looked all over for good wood to use for smoking meat and fish , my son a chef for years said for me to use corn husk , he said thats all he ever used , I tried it and it's a wonderful smoke , doesn't make the product bitter tasting and has a wonderful flavor, that it adds to the meat , you can check out my blog and see the post on Making bacon , to see a little of how I do it . You'll be sooo proud of yourself if you do it yourself too , and you will be amazed at how easy it is to do and the taste will be better than anything you can buy . give it a try .. http://malcolmandciejay.blogspot.com
ps. I made my smoker out of a cardboard box and a little bucket bar-b- que the Thai's use , worked greatDSC08278.JPG
Now that's INNOVATION at its best!

This is a hot smoke recipe. So the salmon is going to get cooked. Not sure if that's what the OP wanted.Easy enough to do yourself in a wok with lid (or doubled up tinfoil) using tea/sugar for smoking in lieu of suitable wood shavings.
Here's a link > http://www.food.com/recipe/smoked-salmon-in-a-wok-216996
I think this is what I'm looking for - hot smoked salmon.

Interested is smoked salmon, using mesquite or hickory. Are there places that smoke and sell such in Chiang Mai? Could I bring a big slab of salmon fillet to such a "smoke house" and go back and pick it up a few days later?

I find they are lazy too, it's so dirty and the butchers have little skill and no respect for the product just throwing it around. There was even blood on the cash resister in front on my last and I mean last visit there.I have only seen one grade of Makro ground beef. Is there a higher grade? The one I buy has little flavor if any.
Any members have up to date comments on beef from Northern Meats, and which branch of NM do you prefer?
I've been aware of this company for a couple of years but never visited their shops, just lazy.
Is Northern Meats the same as Northern Farms?
Where is Northern Meats located?

Sorry, wolf5370, I missed it. The "boxes of cables and connections" - is that True's fiber optics?
Confirmed? Thanks!
