  1. Has it been seen in the Royal Gazette yet? My Mrs says she can't find anything + I'd be very wary of anything the TAT states - Prayuth's shot them down in flames several times in the last few months. The detail is also still missing - insurance, official hotel list etc.
  2. Why are you claiming to have advance knowledge on the above and other requirements? What you claim may be correct but nothing is guaranteed until its announced by Prayuth. He is clearly still working through the detail as he was due to comment on Friday but we are still waiting. Having timed my arrival on the basis that there would be 'No Quarantine' and made one hotel booking that I've now had to cancel, I'm doing nothing more until I see an official announcent from Prayuth that is subsequently detailed on the Royal Thai Embassy's website.
  3. Anutin, TAT and others have commented or confirmed the re-opening plan but they are not Prayuth and he's shot other announcements down in flames before. The last I saw was that Prayuth would be considering the details last Friday - unless I've missed something, still no confirmation or details issued. Yes there's been a chart circulating (purportedly issued by the MFA) that shows the three different entry methods but still nothing by way of official confirmation, precise details or any set application methods. I've seen one website that states the new rules have been published in The Royal Gazette but my wife says there's nothing there and the Royal Thai Embassy in London's website still has no mention on 'Exemption from Quarantine'. If anyone out there has a 'hotline' to Chan-o-Cha could they please remind him that 1 November is next Monday!
  4. Hardly, my wife was travelling to the UK. I think the point is, they got the year wrong - if they'd said 2020, that would be understandable.
  5. Strange, as far as I know there were plenty of flights during that period - my wife was on one of them. She could be lying of course.
  6. I only had a quick look at one hotel (Three Sukhumvit) on the first link and its sadly lacking in detail - still talking about 2 covid tests (day 5-7 and day 11-13). Hopefully things will improve over the coming days. Those who complain about the prices being charged should bear in mind that in some areas of Thailand, it costs 4000 baht for a PCR test alone so the above hotel @ 4600 for a room including a test isn't bad at all. Not that I agree with this one day Quarantine, sorry, waiting period. I must learn the difference, its not quarantine, even if you are fortunate enough to be in the 'Exemption from Quarantine' group - its 'waiting'. "I'm staying under the Exemption from Quarantine rules" - Yes Sir! "So, I can leave my room and go for a walk around" - No Sir! "My friend can visit me in my room?" - No Sir! "I can pop down to 7/11" - No Sir! "And you say its not quarantine, its waiting" - Yes Sir!
  7. Before you make that decision, have a look at how much it will cost to cancel the flight and re-book to Bangkok. However, being a 'bargain price' flight, the cancellation fee might be huge - worth looking though. There was a time and it wasn't that long ago when you could have sorted your problem out through the groundstaff when you checked in - they used to have the ability to do almost anything, sadly, those days have gone - its now 'computer says no'.
  8. All Etihad flights to Thailand now stop at Phuket before going on to Bangkok. This is being done for the Phuket Sandbox passengers but I can see that changing soon as the new 'No Quarantine' schemes take over from the Sandbox. I can't see Etihad stopping at Phuket much longer - there'll be very few passengers. You will not be changing planes in Phuket, I don't even think you will leave the aircraft - you will be fine. I certainly hope so as I'm already booked to arrive on an Etihad flight.
  9. Shouldn't they be called ASNQ hotels? Alternative State No Quarantine? After all, from 1 November fully vaccinated tourists can enter under the Exemption from Quarantine measures ????. (Originally posted by Bkk Brian on Aseannow.com)
  10. As already mentioned - the lack of a u-trap is the most likely culprit and may not be so easy to fix. If your shower is not raised (drain in the floor), you'll have to break out the concrete below the tiles to install a trap. There is no way around it unfortunately. I don't know why but u-traps are rare in Thailand - probably like everything else, done on the cheap. When I installed them as part of a renovation, the builders looked at them in some kind of wonderment - odd! I previously had all kinds of insects arriving through the floor drains - now nothing. Fortunately it was not so difficult for me as my house is 'on stilts' - I simply broke into the false ceiling below and installed traps there.
  11. Road safety through design could be improved and should not be discounted but it takes time. In my opinion, the biggest single thing that could be done and put in place immediately would actually bring in money, not cost money. There are a set of laws - probably lacking and inadequate but there are some - those laws simply need to be enforced and enforced 24 hours per day. Fines at levels that are a deterent should be handed out to those breaking the law and those fines need to go into the the public's coffers - rather than where the bulk of them go now.
  12. I certainly hope they don't count transit (as the UK did) through an airport - my flight is also through the UAE - Abu Dhabi. Edit: Question answered by aussieexpat as I wrote.
  13. Again. no detail and conflicting with other announcements. This appears to be Area Quarantine - Sandbox. What happend to 'Exemption from Quarantine' in the first column below? (originally posted by Bkk Brian) It could of course be down to the reporting/translation - we always blame the government for its confusing statements but what part does the media play in this?
  14. The thing is, they shouldn't say anything until they are ready with the full details. When they confirmed no quarantine fron 1 November, I booked my ticket and hotel before the prices responded and went up. I planned on spending NYE with my wife but already planned to 'quarantine' myself for 1 night and get a test. I therefore booked to arrive on 30 December, spend one night in the hotel and start my trip home very early on 31 December - hopefully receiving my test result on the way. Traffic on Mitraphap is crazy on NYE and getting off later than 6am can involve a very long journey. I once arrived on NYE and it took me 9.5 hours to do a 2.5 hour trip. I don't think it will be quite as bad this time due to Covid but who knows? Also, will all the testing centres be open over the holiday period? I may get my result back early, it might come in the evening. And no, I didn't 'jump the gun', I didn't book on the first mention of 1 November, I waited until it was confirmed. NO QUARANTINE means NO QUARANTINE in my book, I expected some conditions like testing and insurance but I didn't expect to be locked up for the first night - especially in country where the virus is already rampant.
  15. If you are 'locked' in the ASQ hotel until your test comes back negative - its not 'Exemption from Quarantine' is it. Its 24 hour quarantine, have to wait for the detail.
  16. Yep, they want risk free tourism - all of the cash, none of the risk. I can understand it to some extent during this pandemic but I agree, its their aim in all circumstances for the future. They clearly have no comprehension of geese that lay golden eggs.
  17. Fair do's to you Bkk Brian for posting that and I hope it turns out to be correct but note the title of this thread states the PM will consider the full details tomorrow - Friday.
  18. I give up - if this is correct its all a load of rubbish. Blue zones? This wasn't mentioned before - the original announcment said Thailand was ready to open with NO QUARANTINE. I think I might have been a bit hasty with my booking. Let's see what he confirms. https://thepattayanews.com/2021/10/21/thai-prime-minister-to-consider-full-details-of-country-reopening-plan-at-ccsa-general-meeting-on-friday/
  19. Maybe I worry too much but note: it says bookings in Thailand - emphasis in the s. At the moment I'm reading that as for your entire stay. I just hope the final details take account of those with homes in Thailand.
  20. Don't tell them that or we'll be back to 7 days quarantine. I suspect its their way of checking if you picked anything up whilst travelling - which is entirely possible when passing through hubs and sitting tightly packed in an aluminium tube for 12 hours. What they don't seem to have clicked on is the incubation period, I believe its 2 -3 days before any infection shows up - symptoms come later. I don't understand any of it to be honest - given the low numbers of fully vaccinated Thai citizens, it should be the tourists who are worried.
  21. I hope this is just for the one night but I suspect that its for the whole period - as I said before, where are the details? 21 November already!
  22. I thought they said they would set out the details within 2 days - 3 days ago. This isn't details - still more questions then answers. I've booked my flight and 1 night in a non quarantine hotel as I planned to get tested before going to my home in any case. So now what, I have to stay at a hotel, not my home? Sure, it will sort itself out (maybe) but its going to be last minute! Bloody useless!
