  1. The issue is that I want a 20ft container and just pack it myself.      I am told that the max weight including container and contents is  28k kg.

I will just fill it up  once the essentials are in there.

  2. I am trying to ship some possession s from the UK.  I have considered using an entire shipping container.       Is this possible.     ?     The freight forwarders do not want to talk to me.      The removal companies  are difficult   and not willing to just rent/sell a container.     Shipping containers are easy to buy here in the uk.   Any thoughts

  3. I must admit if you can get off the main routes rural driving can be a pleasure.  Try driving down rural back streets when they are drying rice in the road.    Never understood the rural dogs sleeping in the middle of the road.

  4. Travelled south on the M6   recently   .   Was it worth it ?      80 kph speed limit   .    Did it shorten the travel time to BKK ?    not much.  When I left i still had to fight with the wagons in the outside lane as everyone crawled  up the hills.      Little sign of any work to complete.   Managed to miss the start going north.

I'd recommend, here in Thailand, a Credit Union if you can find one that you can join. Teachers Credit Union in Buriram currently paying 4% per annum.

Ah yes credit unions     I forgot about those.        Not very common in the UK   .     A decent savings rate in the UK is 5 %  plus.    I am just looking at alternatives to the run of the mill legacy banks.   Yes deffo  leave most of it back home

  6. Looking at some kind of semi retirement in LOS.   I do have a savings account with the BKK bank.   The interest rate is not worth having.  Fees eat up interest.    I looked at the table of interest rates and it is a joke.   To be honest If I compared the thai legacy banks with the same in the uk the miserable savings rates seem to be the same.

I have my retirement pots of cash in various less well known institutions here in the uk.   Has anyone come across anything worth looking at in LOS. To be honest I am only looking at a modest investment in LOS.   Maybe enough for visa requirement s   maybe a bit more .

I have a Ford Series 10 Tractor repair manual Vol. 1 and 2 in english. What I don´t have is time, since my question.

I meant that you should make sure a decent fitter carries out those tasks.    To be honest if you listed the tasks a bus /  hgv  fitter should be able to do most jobs.    I used do tractor servicing/repairs in a previous life.  I did notice a new new holland (ford) dealer being built recently on route 2 south of KK.      The annoying thing about dealers is that they will insist  on using NH branded spares etc.

We have a New Holland 5610 tractor that needs some work. Since I have been working overseas for the last 15 years nobody has been really looking after it (apart from using it). The work that needs to be done is mainly overdue maintanace, new tyres, new seat and so on. Can someone recommend a Ford - New Holland Dealer or a serious repair shop near Khon Kaen - Kalasin - Mahasarakham?

any half decent plant fitter should be ok  do not forget to grease the centre bearing on the front axle  often get neglected.    You need get an owners manual .   When were the filters last changes and the fuel filter drained.     Gearbox / transmission oil checked  ??   pto guard in good condition ??

Why are you getting involved in something you have little knowledge about? It's something the 3 sisters need to sort out between themselves at the Land Registry. I don't see a need for a lawyer as Thais buy and sell land all the time without the use of one.

Ivorbiggun2    many thanks for the links .   Some detailed reading there .   Incidentally  I am looking at giving the gf some money to the gf and buying    a small plot next to the main house .  Then looking at a lease or userfruct   or maybe some sort of lease and superficie   (spelt wrong i guess)   .

The lawyer issue is that the three sisters are not all together and in agreement.   The sister with grown up child is ok but seems to ok with daughter bf  moving in .   The two other sisters are against this.   My worry is that as the sisters get old and start dying the daughter and male friend maybe husband will take over .   I need a lawyer to encourage them to make adequate wills and consider various contingencies.

To be honest I am not convinced the three sisters have that much knowledge either.

  10. My uk lady friend has an issue as posted previously.    We have found a a decent lawyer as suggested by a member on this forum .     I meeting up with the lawyer in a few weeks.  Essentially there are 3 sisters and only one with children .  One of the children has found a male friend  who is trying to move in and take up permanent residence.      Essentially we are trying to split the land and come to some sort of arrangement with the house.  .

In the mean time can someone help me out with a couple of questions.  Her family  have land and a house but not on the same plot.   There is a name on the house book.   We are advised to get a copy of the Chanot.

What is the house book if it is not a proof of ownership.

Also what are those metal signs I see in the countryside  with what look like lists of names.   Are they lists of land occupancy or ownership or something else.

  11. Not really getting involved.   Trying to provide a little support.   The brown shirts appear to like naming and shaming.

The annoying thing is there are 3 women (sisters) who are looking after this land.   If there were 3 brothers would it be different.

A lot of foreign earned money has been spent .

I sometimes wonder if foreign money appears to being spent on houses and farms if it causes some resentment with the locals.

  12. The gf family farm is under constant attack from petty theft .      Fish from the ponds one week and something else another week.    We are thinking of installing some kind of cctv camera  with maybe a small solar / battery set up .    She wants some kind of sd card storage

    any thoughts
