  1. I have an active Bangkok Bank Be 1st Debit card ( Mastercard logo ) that I have been using for some years without any problems. Yesterday I was at a checkout in a large Tesco Lotus supermarket . I gave the cashier my Bangkok Bank Be 1st Debit card to pay for the goods. The cashier took from me my debit card and inserted it into the small desktop device and within a few seconds the small device printed out a receipt for my goods. The cashier then handed back to me my debit card and a printed paper receipt .  I was at no time asked by the cashier to input my debit card password , or sign my signature on a small screen , or sign my signature on a paper receipt , as in all my past visits to this same Tesco Lotus supermarket. I checked my Bangkok Bank account and the transaction went through .

So I’m now wondering has some thing changed when it comes to using a  Bangkok Bank Be 1st Debit card at a supermarket checkout .

  2. My Thai wife’s 65 year old widowed mother has asked me to paint the roof of her house , the roof is standard interlocking roof tiles that were originally painted a blue color . But now the roof tiles are faded

and are in need of repainting.

The wife's mother does not want any thing fancy done to her house roof , just repainted. I know which paint to buy , and have the necessary ladders and access to the roof is not a problem, but looking at the whole large roof area I think it would take me some considerable time to hand paint those old roof tiles with a normal hand paint brush. My wife told me that her mother has had some bad experiences with using the village handy men , so Ive been asked.

Any thought on a way to repaint the roof tiles that would be easier than using a hand paint brush . The mother does not have the money to purchase any expensive painting equipment that may only be needed once in a blue moon .

    Thanks , Tom

  3. I have a Pre Paid AIS sim card in a very old android mobile phone that I some time use and now when I go to make a telephone call from that mobile phone I get a message saying to make any outgoing calls I now need to top up the credit for the AIS sim card before the 23rd of August 2020.

My problem is that I can’t find the original AIS sim card sales packet the sim came in , and I can’t remember the AIS sim card telephone number , so I can’t top the credit up. And for some reason I can’t find any old call logs on the mobile phone showing the sim card telephone number  or any reference to the actual sim card telephone number any where on the phone.

Any one know a way to find out what the telephone number is for my AIS sim card is .

At the rear of our house we have about one Rai of land thats currently over grown . I was walking through the tall grass on this land and came across 10 of what I can only describe as some sort of animal trap. Some one had set these traps up over night and when I went back to have another look the next day all the traps had gone. My Thai wife or my self are not sure what these traps were trying to catch.

    Any one have an idea

This is seveer acne and there  really isn't a route which she can safely and effectively do at home. She needs to go to the hospital and see a dermatologist. And stop wasting her koney on creams etc that are lijkley to either do nothing or make it worse.

She may need treatment with Isotretinoin (accutane etc) , this must be prescribed and liver function monitored but will work. Oral contraceptives may also help though some formulations can make it worse.

Where in Thailand is she located?

Sheryl thanks for the advice .

The neighbors daughter has recently moved into her boyfriend family house ( planning to marry ) about 30 km away in a small village called Soeng Sang . I’m not sure if there's a Government hospital there .

  6. I know very little about Android TV boxes so I'm hoping some one here may be able to help me.

Ive just moved house and have a new wireless router which is now connected to my Laptop ( running Linux Mint ) via an Ethernet cable and also from the same new wireless router I have another Ethernet cable running directly to my LG smart TV.

The LG Smart TV can see my laptop via the routers Ethernet cable connection. I now want to be able to watch my media video content stored on a permanent 1 TB USB external hard drive connected to the laptop . I would prefer not to use media streaming programs like Kodi or Plex Media Server .

I was wondering if an Android TV box connected to my smart TV in some way would allow me to see my video content stored on the 1 TB external hard drive plugged into my laptop .

     Thanks

  7. I’m not really sure if this is the correct place to ask this question .

My 23 year old daughter will soon be leaving a Thai University with a science degree and coming back home . Once home she will begin looking for full time employment . I am not familiar with what would be expected by a perspective Thai employer in the way of a CV.

I have several ideas based on my past experience with preparing a CV back home in England that would be based on education ( list of schools / dates and duration at individual private schools / list of achievements etc ) .

University courses list / external work experiences / achievements / degree / etc .

My daughter who’s English language skills are very good has asked me to help her prepare the CV paperwork .

Can any one please point me in the right direction or offer advice relating to a family member / friend who prepared a CV to submit to a perspective Thai employer.

    Thanks Tom

  8. I have purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 5A mobile phone running Android 8.1.0
the phone has 2 SIM slots and a WiFi HotSpot option.

I have 2 SIM cards in the phone.

    1. SIM A that I want to use for making phone calls
    2. SIM B that has an internet connection package on it ( 10Mbps unlimited 6 months duration )

I want to set up the phone so I can make phone calls ‘’ only ‘’ using SIM A.

I want to set up ‘’ only’’  SIM B to connect to the internet package so I can
watch the YouTube app I have already installed on the phone.

I want to occasionally activate the WiFi HotSpot option on the phone ‘’ only ‘’ using SIM B.

So only making / receiving telephone calls from the phone = SIM A
So things on the phone needing an internet connection +  WiFi HotSpot = SIM B

Before I go and mess with my new phones settings can any one please advise me
if the above is possible ? . And hopefully point me in the right direction for the correct
    settings.

    Many Thanks - Tom

  9. I’m looking for a mobile sim card data package to connect to the internet and came across this myCat package. The package seems to have a FUP of 384 kbps after the 100GB has been used each month . I know that there’s been many posts on this subject and I have had a look through some posts here but many packages seem to now be discontinued.

This package does not look to bad at 1,070 Baht for 3 months  ( inc VAT )  or 268 Baht a month.

    Web Link here

Any one please have thoughts or comments on the above package.

    Thanks - Tom

How long do you spend in the shower? ????

Some pumps do have a zero-flow cutout, but most do not, in this case if the tank runs dry the pump will continue to run until the overheat cutout operates.

If you are worried about this possibility you will need to add a float switch to your tank wired to kill the pump on low water.

    Thanks

May be i'm just worrying to much ????

Pretty much. The non-return valve next to the pump (inside the dotted line) is usually part of the pump unit so you don't need another.

Of course our Grundfos is the exception to the rule and came with a separate valve (easy to replace when it started leaking).

I would be tempted to use a bigger pump if the shower is upstairs, talk to your local pump shop, they should be able to recommend a unit suitable for your home.

Can I ask another question

One thing that has just crossed my mind is this. Some times the water supply pressure to our house slows right down to a trickle , so if that happens and we are using the electric shower at the time ,  does that mean the pump continues to pumps water from the water stored in the water tank to the shower and what will happen when the stored water level in the water storage tank runs out /low , does the tanks float valve have an electrical switch on it that will shut off the pump should the water level reach near / empty ?

The red pipe is a bypass so that you get at least some water pressure when the power is off or the pump is kaput.

Some replace the NR valve with a regular stop valve which is normally kept closed, open to bypass.

EDIT You may want to add a cheap polyester filter to the incoming supply pipe to keep the crunchy bits out of your tank. We have pretty clean water (we're only 500m from the treatment plant) but our incoming filter is the colour of stewed tea after a couple of months.

Thanks , the filter sounds a very good idea as I am constantly cleaning sand from the washing machine water hose filter . The pump noise I had not thought about . I am planning to install the pump and tank on a concrete base not far from our house back door where theres all ready a mains voltage power outlet.

A 500 or 1000 litre tank should do you, don't get one of the cheap blue ones (they can grow algae as they're not completely opaque), go for something of the sandstone or similar make. Your tank will need a nice solid base, ensure there are no stones underneath the tank to cause annoying leaks.

Don't get the absolute smallest pump, I'd go for something 300 - 400W range.

Your pump will probably have 1" connections, make as much of your pipework as possible that size (the tank fill size can be whatever the incoming supply already is, ours is 3/4").

Note that the cheap pumps can get noisy under load, so think about where you locate it.

    Many thanks

I don't really understand the the need for the pipe work ( shown in Red ) ?

In the past where I live I have had dealings with the two local Thai ‘’ plumbers ‘’ and the outcome was not a good one???? . So I’m fairly confident that I could install all the equipment my self . Ive decided the way to go would be a system for the whole house water supply . One area where I’m currently stuck is buying the right size or pump and water storage tank . We only have a small house ( bungalow style ) so no upper floors and ....

    one automatic washing machine
    one kitchen sink
one toilet room with one toilet WC one hand basin and one electric shower
two out side taps for a hose pipe to water the garden

So overall not a big demand for water .

So estimating the size of booster pump and outside water tank and plastic water pipe size is an area where I could do with some advice ????

  15. Thanks every one for your advice and suggestions.

I’m not really interested in improving the water pressure to the whole house only my electric shower. ( But then again if the cost difference between the equipment / installation for improving the water pressure to the whole house Vs only my shower,  is not that different  , then may be the whole house idea may be better . )

so have I got this right ...

  16. I live in a small village and our house stands alone at the end of a street , the house water supply is fed into the house from a government water meter out side the house gate . The pipe from the water meter into the house looks like ½ inch blue plastic type . The actual water supply comes from a communal water pumping station that supply's the whole village .

As our house is situated at the far end of the street the piped water pressure is generally ok  , but some times it increase in pressure and other times it slows right down.

Our electrical shower unit has a sensor that detects the water pressure coming into the shower and if that water pressure should drop , then the internal shower heating element switches off and the water coming out of the shower head becomes cold, until the water pressure builds back up and the sensor then switches the heating element back on . During a shower this on / off hot / cold water scenario can happen several times while showering , which is driving me crazy.????

I was wondering if its possible to install a shower booster pump that would help in some way but as the water pressure to our house some times fluctuates I was wondering if installing a shower booster pump would be a good idea or just make things worse????

    Any suggestions or advice welcome
