Most people on this controlled forum will agree with you. I would have a lot more thoughtful response, but sadly I am not allowed to speak freely on this platform. Opposing healthy debate is unfortunately censored here. It's a sign of the ever widening divisive nature occurring now... Even this comment may get me banned.

That's a lot of pretentious bilgewater just to say Trump instigated the legal challenge... ????

Anyone ever considered that this unnecessary home visit exists for the very purpose of extorting more money? I sure have. I have only done three extensions and I magically have a problem every time needing some additional fee for one reason or another. I too have had the wife pay the visit fee when they arrive to drink our cold drinks and ask my wife about two questions, wai's all around, smiles, spend ten minutes then ef off again from whence they came. The extortion here in Buriram is rampant.

My wife went to a village meeting here in rural Buriram Province. They were told by the village leader that Buriram was preparing to also receive foreigners back in the country. It doesn't sound like the village leader gave much more specifics than that other that to get a feel for the community about this decision, which was positive from the group my wife said, and to state that Buriram would be a designated recieving province. I suspect that select Buriram City hotels are preparing to accept as ASQ hotels. Again no timeline or other specifics... but was meant as a general announcement for future arrivals.

I you have family – i.e. wife and/or children – you have been able to enter for long time. Your extension of stay based on "retirement" has nothing to do with permission to enter.
Soieddie the OP was referring to the extension of stay based upon retirement obtained here within the Kingdom, not a Non-Immigrant O based upon family or marriage. Currently the Non-immigrant O extension based upon Retirement is not being admitted to Thailand. To return, the retiree now must apply for the Non O-A to be eligible to proceed for the COE. So the permission to enter based upon a non-immigrant O based upon retirement does absolutely have everything to do with it. Soieddie has a legitimate grievance. If they are letting the Non O based upon marriage in and the Non O-A based upon retirement, why are they not letting the Non-immigrant O based on retirement in? There can be only one answer for this. They are discriminating against this category for whatever reason.

I'd provide a thoughtful comment... but I'm not allowed.

Must be nice to feel free to make things up.
I do occasionally predict the future. It's like flipping a coin in the left vs right paradigm we have going right now... your guaranteed to be right at least 50% of the time. ????

Clearly the "Russians did it" has become yet again a tired old platitude for yet another generation. Prediction: it will now be the "Anti-Vac... Umm... I mean, It's now the "Anti-Maskers" that are ruining the world. Soon to be supported by the tin foil hat brigade the "Anti-Vaxxers". Always needs to be a boogeyman...

One tiny little detail you forgot to mention about Thailand: mask-wearing is virtually universal.
You're either not actually living in Thailand or are deliberately being disingenuous. Mask wearing occurs about 90% in malls and 7-11's. That is it. Outside of these two places, Thai's are not wearing masks legitimately. And certainly when you leave the city centers, the villagers never wear masks.

"statistical methods to infer causation" Wasn't this the now discredited Neil Ferguson approach. This entire article is based upon supposition intended for clear political bias... Double standards everywhere here in Thai Visa land.

I mean really... think about it. 10 days or 14 days... it doesn't really matter. If you have to go through the hoops to set up and participate for 14 days... what is a mere 4 day reduction. Not much.

Having just gone through the Non-Immigrant O based upon Marriage to re-enter in September, the Thai embassy Los Angeles was very accommodating and paperwork requirements and flow were very doable... seemingly this is the preferred VISA right now, meaning the requirements are less arduous. I did the entire process start to arrival BKK in two months. You clearly have three different options, wife, child and retirement. Like Ubonjoe points out, the retirement route is the most onerous. Once here, just need to show the 400,000 or 800,000 in the bank two months ahead of the application for the respective extensions of the 90 day visa.

Excellent, have you done this yourself or know someone personally that has successfully done this?
Thanks.
Yeah... I was married in the village Ampur Satuek. Registered my marriage in Bangkok and have used the offices in Buriram City for the Kor Ror 2. My wife tells me they have an intranet system and we should be able to get this at any office.

Is it possible for a farang with a Thai wife coming to live in Thailand to obtain a mortgage or a loan to buy a house/condo? I am retired with assets and income outside Thailand and some assets in Thailand. I am not yet in Thailand and do not yet have a visa/residency permit.
You're better off buying a small piece of land from her family, an uncle who wants some cash, then build you small abode on that. Pay in cash. Of course you will own nothing, but if you ever have to cut your losses, you won't be out much. A guy can by a small piece out here in the village for as low as 100,000 baht and build you a 50 Sq M house for about a million. I bought a 3 rai piece right on our main road, has power and I put a water well for 300,000 total including the cost of adding dirt for the building site and a water well. My 36 sq M house, with an additional 20 Sq meter of outside space (outdoor kitchen etc.) is going to cost me only another 400,000. This is using a local builder, using a qualified engineered plan in Buriram, but will be using the simply (cheaper) materials. Point is, it can be done well and inexpensively... no loan or mortgage required. As they say, never invest more than you are ready to walk away from.

Does anyone know if those recent "STV" Chinese business men that recently came in to buy up the place have to wear this tracking system?

The less the better. Most don't know how to handle weapons properly.
In America handling a weapon is in the DNA. Often times this is in fact the problem... when they go psycho and shoot up the place. Don't forget, it is not just the psychos that create trouble, there are other forces at play (work).

I just talked with my son back home... he reports can still get 9mm but 5.56 is hard to get now... 223 and 300 blackout (7.62×35mm) in limited supplies at the remaining gun shops.

Belgium has just announced a lockdown.
Well there you have it. Getting in our out is likely going to be even more problematic now... I suspect you will have a very good argument for finding another solution for your actual physical attendance.

Thank Joe - so you think just a K Bank statement would do ? There doesn't need to be a set balance / length of time etc ?
This was what I was required to meet when I came in one month ago. This requirement comes from the Los Angeles Thai embassy... "A copy of recent bank statement ($700 per person and $1,500 per family)"
-
If not already stated... you will need to contact the Belgium Thai Embassy and start the process for your return on a Non-Immigrant O-A as that is the only VISA you will be eligible to return on. The only other issue you need to inquire about is if Belgium is one of the countries that Thailand considers a low risk country.
Explainer: What might happen if U.S. election result is disputed?

If you (meaning anyyone) were paying attention to the run up to this election... most people would agree this was going to be a shenanigans %^&^ show from all sides on election day. Why would you not promote the only best credible accounting and judgement of the voting process? The Supreme court is the Supreme decider in the American system... it what they've got. Doing it any other way will never be accepted by either side of this.
