Scraping by on Bangers and Mash ...no scones in that budget

I can substitute in Wyoming for 115 per day..Not great, but no meetings or after hours stuff.  Paid for house, too.  Got stuck overnight in Denver Saturday.  The clinics are mind blowing.  Pretty cheap.. spent 8 bucks and had five sessions and put about half of it in the bin at DEN.  Probably 20 years away in LOS.. just too much money in extortion.

What do you mean by "Senior account", is this for you visa?

    Is FD fixed deposit?

I just do an online transfer into my account the morning I go to immigration and update the book.

Was using the tax free senior fixed deposit for my 800k...cant add online and was hard enough to do in person.  That was cimb...

  3. Senior account was nearly impossible to update.. And was rejected for lack of current date, even though interest was paid out monthly and balance carried forward.  My idea was to add a FD to the book, but as stated, it is limited to one lump at a time.  However, after some calks and her looking in her binder ten times, I was able to add a six month 10,000 FD to that book... The senior FD books are generally a different book.. And if the mature during seasoning.. Look out.

Bummer. I bank with Kasikorn, Krungsri and Bangkok. Never had any negative treatment, although of the three, Bangkok seems the biggest PITA.

Krungsri CNX was excellent and foreigner friendly.  A few of the Bible were great about wiring money..outbound..in Chiang Mai and even the one by UTH Immigration..But She even acknowledged they tried there best to steer people to agents at imm even though their stuff was in perfect order and her branch was a three minute walk..Now it looks like I did a good move getting my money and myself out in early April...things were really starting to come unraveled.  And screw KimEng too...what a goddamn circus trading stocks was.

How many have you been in?

Started at Thewet, but that branch was closed.. went to Mahanakan... had trouble with letter... Went into Wangsawan a number of times....totally worthless.. And that brought me to the main branch near Ploen chit, Lang Suan.. which was hugely dissapointing, time consuming, aggravating, and annoying.  BBL at Sala Dang saved the day....also had banked at three CIMB in Chiang Mai and One in Udon.  Had a letter rejected from one in CNX, and that was the best branch, where I first opened the accounts.. After BBL at Pantip had multiple signs advertising 2 5/8% and after the usual stall and delay, handed me the book and it stated 2.5%..

Thanachart's e-Savings account still has 0.9% interest rate.

CIMB Thai's tax-free Senior account is now down to a lousy 0.7%

Don't know about Thanachart, but the good esavings rates are often limited to 1-200k.  Senior account at CIMB is good for 1.5 million... but the branches around BKK, including the main one, have an extremely poor attitude towards foreigners, and very poor English skills to go with it.

  7. I am skeptical of anything but the flower.. even in the parts of the US, where it is legal.  Seems like the oils, edibles are a way for them to get rid of the shake/leaf, which is worth a tenth of the flower.

<50 THB per gram in Nogales, Arizona.. would sell for 1000 per gram in Land of Stunted.... so yes, there are a few things more of a ripoff than wine.

I could write a book about Thailand and its hidden treasures, but I doubt I'd make much money. There are already hundreds of books published about almost every aspect of LOS. I'd just be joining a crowded field.

What would be viable IMO would be a proper VDO travel documentary series of Thailand. Unfortunately such would cost large and I don't know anyone willing to give me loadsacash to do anything.

Yeah, it has been beaten to death.  For text only, nothing really beat the World sex guide of 25 years ago.  Latley, the trend has been to ignore p4p action and/or hot chicks walking around... Kind if makes one wonder where their heads are at.. And please save your breath on liking and subscribing.

Argentina is a financial basket case. Almost impossible to get funds transferred to or from the country, and ATMs dispense very limited amounts of cash (and that's if you don't get mugged after your transaction). Petty crime in Buenos Aires is rampant, although if a bandit is armed, I don't call it "petty", but bag snatching and phone grabbing are pretty common. Half the population is in  therapy with a psychiatrist, and this was long before the financial crisis. Beef and wine are great. Not so many pretty girls interested in gringos as in Colombia (for ex), and much more expensive. Think again, Wyoming cowboy.

Best steaks... worst place for an easy <deleted>.

They would IMO be no more or even less happy if they returned to home country. I haven't had a good laugh back home in years- it's a sanuk devoid place IMO.

Agreed..many alternatives are anything but normal.  The top reason I left was to be closer to my parents..otherwise I would have waited it out...but the time horizon for normalcy keeps getting bigger.  Glad I got vaxed with Pfizer.  I wish there were a million good lookers out there like there are in BKK but the p4p scene looks great in Paraguay and Argentina....and wine isn't a ripoff.

Grew up in both. Paraguay is very much an unspoiled by tourism area. Nice people and lovely places to see. Argentina is nice, great food and you can have the best of both worlds (beaches and mountains).

In hindsight, I would have gone to Asuncion if my brain had been working  20 years back!

Yeah..i had read that Paraguay hadn't been ruined by tourism..like many other places.  Maybe the lack of beaches keeps the trashpackers away, but it didn't seem to work for CNX.  Seem like there might be an interesting river culture in Paraguay.

  12. I repatriated to the US and took advantage of open enrollment on the Marketplace...1511 per month..silver plan..got a subsidy for the entire amount, which creates its own hurdles..but very doable.  No preexisting conditions either.  I think the 500 is accurate..what you don't spend on premiums should be saved for deductibles and other emergencies.  Getting money from the Thais?  Yeah, right..and your GF was just a cashier...lol.

  13. Figuring out where to go for the next Wyoming Winter, Covid willing.  Concerned about import ripoffs, much more than immigration corruption..only staying 90 days.  Cordoba looked interesting and so does Asuncion...pretty easy to get to both...As always, I appreciate (most of) your comments and opinions.

  14. Just get a retirement visa.. If you want to live in Thailand. 50K is plenty, and much more than most of them are paid.  There is no doubt you could get a job... And almost no doubt it would kind of suck, especially when you consider paperwork hassles.  Their interest in learning English has been on the decline for 15 years+.  Lower pay than before.. more Filipinos, Africans, Eastern Europeans.  Yes, they still prefer the white face, but not as much as saving 50% on salaries.

Yeah, I am reading it and Virginia and West Virginia are said to be South Atlantic states whereas the very poor areas seem to be in East South Atlantic states as in Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi.

These are what you regard as the deep South?

Are these people the ones described as Rednecks by the North?n

You have rednecks as far north as Pennsylvania.  There were actually Confederate regiments from PA, and you even have some NYC commuters living in PA.  Arlington Cemetery was built on land confiscated from the Lee family.  John Wilkes Booth was from Maryland, and there are lots of rednecks there, too.  Never seen more Trump gear than my new home in Wyoming.. he got about 87%+  of the vote here in Campbell County.  A lot of it has to do with the 500 billion tons of recoverable coal in the area.

Look into Rosarito (Baja).  Stayed in an AirBnb last time I was there, it was a house owned by a retired public school teacher in CA, I think he said he worked in the Fresno area.  Obviously priced out of CA in retirement, he had a nice house with a sea view and rented out a spare bedroom on Airbnb.  Said he had some sort of pass that facilitated a quick border crossing when he needed to go into San Diego.

LOL, I was only kidding about Modesto.

Wasn't Modesto the setting for American Graffiti? A friend has a 500 acre farm in Hollister, and he used to poke fun at Modesto.  Stockton wasn't even considered part of civilization.

    Guys,

I have never been, know nothing but based on all what tiny bit I read today, I am moving to.......New Hampshire! Now where is it?

It seems the worst reputations for healthcare and climate but cost of living being cheap tend to be in the Southern States?

    Am I wrong>?

Many have excellent healthcare in Texas.  Parts of Virginia are as wealthy as it gets, other parts are pretty poor.  GDP of Virginia is more than LOS with an 1/8th the population.
