Why on earth does Nonthaburi want a TM30, esp for extensions.

Heard bad things about that imm office. Is it as bad as what some reports suggest?

It is still much better than Chiang Mai.  There was a real big bellied officer out front checking docs, who was polite and smooth.  Then they brought in some Uni students, who can only do super basic things, certainly not detailed ones.  So there is an angry, short haired woman who screens docs before number is given... and she loves to send people on their way.  She did cut me slack on being fifteen minutes past their made up time for when you have to be in by.. 3pm.  My bank, which is spelled similar to CHIMP, took two hours to produce the letter, which she said was wrong, but her boss said was OK.  Seems to be Hell for teachers, but OK for retirees with 800k.  A guy from US , doing proof, got bounced a few times. Again, it was hairsplitting on bank letters.  This year, he got it on first try, though.

  2. www.tabaqueria.com. I was 5 for 7..no taxes.  Get the lighter packs instead of the boxes. They use EMS. Hong Kong is riskier, and much more expensive (and better Cubans).  I bought a couple of panetelas at Siam paragon earlier for 69 each.  Same ones from Tabaqueria.  About four times more, though.

It wasn't me that did that.

In any event, I have stayed at any number of "well known" hotels on Sukhumvit and they have all taken my visa as a deposit and as payment.

Friday, in fact, I checked into Novotel Siam Square (my boy has some tests close by)  and they accepted my visa card as a deposit. It has never been refused, and I have never heard of one being refused until now.

Perhaps you have a "stored value" visa card and not an "actual" visa card?

The room was paid for on Agoda with the Visa card.  The hotel would not accept it tor deposit.  I refused to pay it.

    Curly fries? Jesus bloody wept!

LOL, yep, that and those seasoned (msg) fries just about marked the end of civilization as we knew it. BTW, try steak sauce on your steak fries sometime.. perhaps, wait until you are back home, so you don't need to rob a bank, first.  Goes great on salmon steaks, too.

Has the fish eaten the chips?

    ????

It was a decent, but not large amount.. Seemed to be the equivalent of oreida steak fries from the US.. They certainly weren't counted as they seem to be at some places, here, and had it not been for my drink, I would have burned my mouth.. Don't know about the vinegar, but their tartar sauce was great.. No film on top... Not to keen on the curly fries, but they serve those with the burgers.

  6. 61 THB for a 454 gram pack of butter...at my local Kroger in the US... haven't priced it here lately as it has been shockingly expensive, but I'll bet I could add a bottle of Jacob's Creek wine (799 THB at 711 in LOS), or even a Mondavi, And still have a lower tab than buying that pound of butter here.. Is the Kangaroo stuff even real?

Valid point... my favourite has always been cod and I have learned to read menus.... if it is a better quality type of fish it will at least clearly claim it to be so. There used to be an abundance of cheap fish and chips in Pattaya and I recall having a few where the fish was some insipid soft mush inside the batter that was very unappetizing.

It was specifically asdvertised as both a new item and Sea Bass.  As a Miami native, there are two things I know a lot about, one is good fish, the other I wouldn't talk about in the drunkest of stupers.  The best fish and chips I ever had was Halibut, served at a modest Inn in Coos Bay, Oregon.  But, I had to drive 10 hours, around a 14000 foot mountain, then through a rain forest, where it seemed to be raining sideways.  The waitress needed some serious dental work, and was old enough to be my grandmother.  This fish was in the same league, the waitress was more like granddaughter than grandma, it was a one beer walk from my hotel..and half price.... so again, thumbs up for this slice of corporate America.

  8. It was a very tasty piece of white fish, that didn't taste fishy.  I am aware of the problem, though, and have heard plenty of debates on what was being called fish and chips here, by the mostly farang run restaurants.  They would get nailed to the wall for doing that in the US, where most of the locations are. Normal price is 299..and you are only getting about 180 grms of fish.

Casino is <deleted>, and you guys are paying 3x the original price for inferior products

that's what it was too hard to live in Thailand, the expensive crappy imports and the bad overpriced wines ????

back to Europe, great food, great price, and even great weather ????

I have been thinking the same. but then I went to Hooters Patts, entire menu half price.  Was perfect, fish and chips.  Would take my mom there, without hesitation.

Using the Kasikorn bank "card free" withdrawal there in no out of area fee.

Cannot speak to other banks, but likely the same.

No interprovince fee on cimb atm, but that is limited to way less than the 500k I mentioned.

Thought there was a daily limit of 300k ($10,000) for transfers out.? Varies by bank so may be yours is different.

Bbl says 25000 usd per day, which usually has better rates and is 400 instead of 500.  50,000+ you need a special form.  In all cases, you need to state a reason.  It's 300 if you do ot online, but approval requires wp and several days.

I was staying in an hotel, and didn't need a CoR to open my first account. The good old days really were the good old days for those of us that started visiting LOS in them.

I've suspected for some years that they really don't want us farangs living in LOS anymore, and everything I read like this thread confirms that for me.

IMO they just want tourists that visit for a week or two ( visa exempt ) and spend lots of money. Long stay farangs not welcome any more.

I would tend to agree.  Ideally, they want you back home remitting wires every month to your beautiful girlfriend, who stopped working at the bar, because you send her 15000 per month.  That's more than a high percentage of them woukd make working, and often times it is discovered there are several payors involved.  I recall a fairly attractive girl at John's Place in CM.  She regularly wore a Polo shirt with a Western Union logo on it.  Likely didn't even know how to send one.

Yes they are usually just north of 60 baht each... so good deal, although close to the 6 month mark and likely why on special.

On several occasions, I have put down the holiday packaging, when I saw the regular packaging.. and they were even older.  The cans seem to age much better.  The light kills the bottles.  The selling of old beer in Patts is problematic to say the least.  In the US, Heineken doesn't put the born date, just a best before date one year after manufacture.  There are some born mid 2-2021 out there if you hunt.   Another problem is bars letting them freeze and thaw, and that kills them quicker than the heat and sun, but I suppose they are congratulating themselves for ending the warm beer complaints.

UbonJoe can back me up on this but, but so far as I know there is no requirement concerning which day of the month your 65,000+ FTT transfer is made to your Bank account in Thailand but usually one transfer per calendar month is required. I usually call Fidelty to do a wire transfer to Bangkok Bank around the middle of the month, giving me adequate time to correct any errors that may arise.  It takes only one working day for the money to appear in my Bangkok Bank account.  I accumulate my pension payments from different sources in my cash management account at Fidelity so that I personally have complete control over when the funds are transferred to Thailand.  My only charge is the 200 baht that BB charges me for handling the money.  The international wire transfer cannot be automated.  I must call every month but have a standing order on file with Fidelity so I only need to mention BB and they can view the complete information on file.  It usually takes only a 5-10 minute call to Fidelity Service Direct.  Your voice is your identification so there is no need to enter passwords, etc.

Could you do a SWIFT transfer to bbl NYC, and have it be considered a domestic wire? BTW, I like the voice recognition system, too.

Either jobsworths or "on the make" in the case of certain rogue offices (e.g. Nonthaburi).

They squeak when they shuffle their feet in Nonthaburi, compared to Chiang Mai.. Never had a bad wait, used an agent, or paid one extra THB.  Was caught off guard trying to go 42 days before, but didn't know it is 30 there.

you been in thailand long enough you should know to "err on the side of caution"

even if some  ONE  at the immig office tells you differently.   There is always some ONE else

    to say  no no no

but of course :  "up to you "

That is why I was trying to get a feel for the enforcement of this fairly knew rule.. Hadn't gone below 800k since I came on OA in 2014, so I didn't pay that much attention to it.  Heck, I am pretty dang close to calling it quits, here.  I was never one to look for only Thai places, but that never stopped me, and I have been really feeling outnumbered lately.
