The big irony with Italy is that Italy really was one of the first to close borders, it acted with lightning speed. On 29 January the two Chinese tourists were diagnosed with the virus and on 31 January Italy closed its borders.

And ever since the newspapers have been full of stories about how the Italians have been flouting all the rules on social distancing, travel etc.

What does the medical certificate state and does it refer to being clear of the virus, if so, how would a GP give a certificate without testing? If they test, how long does it take to get results and given the pressure on health service in the UK at the moment, would they agree to a test?

You don't have to have a test, you have to have a doctor who'll write a certificate to that effect

Important infoAnti-inflammatories may aggravate Covid-19, France advises French minister says patients should take paracetamol rather than ibuprofen or cortisone. There is a debate on this with some doctors saying it does not worsen the conditions. The NHS website previously recommended both paracetamol and ibuprofen, but has since changed its advice to say that while "there is currently no strong evidence that ibuprofen can make coronavirus (Covid-19) worse... until we have more information, take paracetamol to treat the symptoms of coronavirus, unless your doctor has told you paracetamol is not suitable for you." Those already taking ibuprofen for other conditions should not stop without consulting a doctor, though.

Ibuprofen is never recommended for the over-50 anyway

I have health insurance. I pay for it myself. I don't depend on the hard work of others to pay for me. As it should be.

Yes and what you pay for health insurance is used by others when they get sick. There's no difference between private health insurance and publicly-funded health care. We all pay; some of us benefit. Some don't pay and still benefit - children, for example. A family health insurance policy does not increase in price according to the number of children you have

A little different by geography, I spent the last 2 days calling travel/health insurance providers here in Sydney about short-term insurance for 10 days in Thailand. I called both mainstream known insurers and more local insurance companies.

Every company I called gave me the same answer 'there is now an industry policy that all offerings totally exclude any cover/claims in regard to Covid 19 and the policy applies to all destinations without exception.

Who are you hoping will fly you from Australia to Thailand (and back)? - https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/qantas-grounds-international-flights-stands-down-two-thirds-of-staff-20200319-p54bmh.html

I dont think it is the money market per se, but peoples reaction and lack of confidence in Australia and its government s decisions.

For years they have been dropping rates and encouraging more people to borrow.

its pure idiotic bandaid measure that will soon have everyone broke, especially now jobs will be lost through this corona thing.

Indeed, Australia is completely different in that regard. Quantitative Easing - Australia led the way. Oh, wait, that was the USA. Almost zero interest rates? Australia too. Oh, wait - that was the USA & the EU

Go home and wait or stay where you are and wait  - this has another 2-3 weeks before the Govts think about starting to reduce travel bans - in meantime they are more likely to increase band - and if things go really bad in 2-3 weeks the Govts will ramp up the bans and you might be locked there.  Whatever happens - IMO you should wait and see or go home and wait.

    2-3 weeks! In your dreams
