This has to be a troll post.  If there is one policy that I would congratulate successive Thai governments on enforcing across the board, it's anti-smoking.  OK, maybe not in the countryside where I guess it's almost impossible to police, but cities, public transport, parks, hospitals, schools are all better than countless other countries - Greece, Italy, France, China, Vietnam, the list goes on...

In the unlikely event that it's not just a dumb troll post, maybe the OP would care to name the places filled with smokers that he's complaining about.

I agree. Government has made good efforts in curbing where smokers can and cannot smoke. A lot better than most other countries.

Dr. Joy is a wonderful dentist!  Based on all the positive comments I read in this thread and others on ThaiVIsa, I just saw Dr. Joy for a chipped tooth.  She was great!  Contrary to what some said, I found their prices quite reasonable, and a downright bargain by Western standards.  Oh, and I called them on Saturday; they saw me on Sunday!  I'd recommended them highly to anyone seeking a good dentist at reasonable prices here in Chinag Mai.

I have been a patient of Dr Joy for a long time. She also sees patients at Joy Plus Dental on canal road just off Nimman before Prasertland.

  3. its always best to go back to the original shop you bought it at. Or if its a chain of shops operating around the country. They should be paying it off you at buy back price without any commission.  its always good to buy gold from the bigger dealers such as Ausiris, Aurora. They are very clear about their selling and buy back price. Standard commission you pay when you buy are as follow: THB250 for 1 gram, THB200 for 1 Saleang(0.25 Baht), THB200-THB200 for 2 Saleang(0.50 Baht), THB250-THB400 for 1 Baht (15.244grams). Difference between bullion buying and selling prices seem to remain at 100 baht margin. This are for gold bullion/bar which is standard from that shop. If there are special limited edition designs then more commission. But they always buy back at gold buy back price set by the Thai Gold Association which is linked to global gold prices. Jewelry sold at much higher commission and making charges and bought at lower prices compared to bullion prices.

  5. i am now confuse if this thread is now about mad dog? or about go go bars? or about people who go to eat food but rather take notice of the age of other patrons there or dress codes. so much bullshit comes out of this forum its amazing. some of you think you are perfect beings who are immortal and will never age. <deleted>. before looking down at others, look at the mirror. anyone can slag off others. at least the business is still running and says a lot that the owner is running a profitable premise. compared to many businesses that have come and gone. can any of you running a business here tell us for sure that your staff dont stare the phones as much as they can? many good legit businesses providing the best they can to the international community. lets not be too critical of issues that are nothing really.

the signs are being replaced with newer ones. hence the signs down. business is operating as usual. The saying goes if you got nothing good to say, better to just shut up!

  6. very high risk investment but like some others say, potential to make some decent money for the pro dealers.

edit: i only invest a little bit in Ripple. 3rd biggest market cap cryptocurrency. ripple is different from other coins with the backing of several big banks that do fund transfers using it.

Everything I have read leads me to believe a collapse of the world monetary system and a significant rise in gold and silver prices so I have the 55 baht gold here and 3215 ounces silver in Australia. People say gold is not an investment but a hedge. If you make money from it it is an investment.

What I can't figure out is the relationship of Thai gold prices to world gold prices. I know Thai gold is 96.5% pure and also related to the baht/$us but world gold has been steadily increasing but Thai gold is relatively steady.

as far as i know gold prices in thailand is pegged to global market prices. every gold seller that I follow on Line app including aurora, Hua Seng Heng, Ausiris, YLG bullion all display thai prices according to global market. Global Gold currently trading at USD$42.66 or THB1,348.12 for 99.9%. Gold Thailand trading at THB19,750 per baht average between buy and sell for 96.5% and THB20,495 for 99.9% per baht or 15.244grams. 15.244 (1 Baht gold) x 1,348.12(gold price p gram) = 20, 550.74. a little difference in amounts here and there but yes pegged to global prices. only difference is the standard for most gold sold in thailand is 96.5% or a little more than 23k. apologies if any mistakes in calculations. not a pro :)

I have been buying 5/10 baht ingots from a gold shop in Wararot Market in Chiang Mai. Been using the same one of late as they all brand their ingots so easier to sell back to them. I now have 55 baht worth.

As some people have said you would probably pay an extra fee through the banks. If have found if you buy a 5 baht ingot or bigger you only pay the published gold price at the time and no commission. I think you pay commission on selling. Even though I said I buy from same store for easier sell back you can still shop around for cheaper commission. I sold one 5 baht ingot in Phuket and the commissions varied from 1500 baht to as low as 300 baht, and obviously where I sold it. It did help having a Thai with me to help negotiate commission.

nice collection there. always nice to have gold especially for those who are not able to keep money!!!!. as soon as i have surplus there i go out buying something. lol. there is more to gold than just investment.

If you can be  bothered to go to a travel site like www.travelfish.com for example you will soon found out why.

The way to do Vietnam for me is what I did 25 years ago flew into Hanoi, spent a week and then catch the re unification train south and hop off at places like Hoi An ,Hue,etc rejoin the train , get off at Nha Trang and zip up to Dalat by van or bus, its cooler and mountainous, from there down to Saigon and home.

25 years ago was the best of it. Today friends tell me its just like any other country that has attracted milions of tourists but if its your first time you wont have to compare.

that still does not explain how and why it has more interest than Malaysia.

  10. you can find those touch up paint "pens" around town. one place for sure i have seen it is outside tops at Airport plaza. sold by Robinsons. they carry various common colours. hope its not a mazda Soul Red :P

Personally I think its rather sad when people have to go to some generic boring shopping mall to celebrate a cultural festival.

But maybe it is indicative of what has happened to the culture.

its not very cultural anymore if you ask me. even in older popular places.

  12. Thai gold is predominantly 96.5% btw. i buy my gold for investment purposes with Ausiris as they have good prices and ship nationwide. and if anyone happens to take Emirates, i ask them to get me some PAMP gold bar or platinum at Dubai duty free airport gold shop. Best price i seen that even beats the various prices you find at gold souk in Dubai. as everyone has pointed out labour prices make them more expensive in the west. if you are buying jewelry then buy what makes you happy. if buying for investment then look out for least premium with a well known brand name for worldwide purchase. If living in Thailand, then buy their 96.5% from an established gold chain so you can get a good price when you sell it back. if not mistaken most jewelry in the west is less than 20k gold.
