  1. I strongly recommend you tell the sender to write down your Thai phone number on the package carrying your new debit card.
  2. Proper written English tends to stress the importance of using active instead of passive voice. Does proper written Thai care about such a distinction? On a side note: to say something like "Your dog bit me" in active voice, one should put: หมาของคุณกัดผม correct? And to express the same matter in passive voice, one should put: ผมถูกหมาของคุณกัด is that correct?
  3. I think your statement would hold generally true, in most any country. It seems uneducated people have a higher tendency to react with violence or seek to "prove" themselves through violence (or have romantic/familial ties to such persons).
  4. You may well fit the other criteria. But I certainly don't think you have "zero personality." How would most people define "personality" anyway? If I were to venture a guess: A nice smile. An enthusiastic greeting. Emphatic nodding to whatever is said. Share a few near-consensus opinions. Make sure to match the other person's politics. Eye-contact. ...Are you saying you're no good at that sort of thing?
  5. I'm too shy to answer this question, but it's nice to finally somewhat understand one of your posts.
  6. Say someone has my social security number and my bank account number, but they do NOT have my login password... Could they loot my online Bank of America account?
  7. What is the best way to get a US number for online verification purposes? I have no need to use the number for actual phone conversation. I just want the number for bank stuff / PayPal, etc. Is there a reputable vendor selling such a thing?
  8. Thailand is a pretty good place to 'navigate the vessel.'
  9. You do not consider this forum sufficiently vibrant?
  10. I have a sweet tooth for wild-growing fruit. I also like to explore. I would love to venture into some nearby mountains and forage for fruit. Many Isaan natives do this. I'm sure it's no legal issue for them. But is it legal for a farang? A while back, I read about two farang finding big trouble because they went fishing in a Thai national park (can't recall the province or region). This is somewhat concerning. At the same time, I'm not seeking to fish; I want to forage. Also, and perhaps more importantly, I'm quite sure my nearby mountains do not qualify as a national park.
  11. Let's say you're not clicking on links in a strange email, but just websurfing in general. If you encounter this type of warning panel (or something similar) when you attempt to visit a website, does that mean that you are already in danger of getting a virus/malware/etc? Or are you at risk only if you ignore the warning and proceed into the website?
  12. You've probably already revealed your reason(s) in a previous thread...But might you tell me what caused you to leave Laos? Did the work visa become more difficult? You were once the Western World's biggest champion of that place.
  13. Oh brother. So, once the thing develops more, you think it might try to rodger my wife?
  14. I'd never even heard of such a device! Clearly, there are some rather wide gaps in my tech knowledge. I will do some research. Thank you!
  15. It's a generic Thai dog. The kind you see eating, fighting, and lying thoughtlessly on the road in every village. I'd be glad to send the little sociopath packing, but it ain't my decision. I'm not the master of the household. In fact, I might even be lower on the totem pole than the thing that bit my face.
  16. I'm not sayin' I'm any great catch. But, you've been "Living in Pattaya since 2007" ...and you're giving marriage advice.
  17. A dog in my household recently bit my face and would not let go. I was able to pry open its mouth and liberate my somewhat bloodied face. I suspect I succeeded in escaping quickly because the dog is about 7 weeks of age and weighs all of 3 kilos. How does someone escape the prolonged face bite of a dog that weighs 30 kilos? What parts of the dog should you grab or strike in order to convince it to let go? Coming to think of it...Let's say a human bites your face and won't let go. Does the self-defense strategy differ?
  18. I just went on Lazada and the Chromebooks are far more expensive than I thought. I don't understand why. You can get them in the USA for like 4,000 baht. Is there a better place than Lazada to get them in Thailand? I'd like something under 10,000 baht.
  19. I'm not licensed to drive outside of the USA. I don't want a TH (or intl.) driver's license, because if I ever got one, my wife would insist that I drive her car some of the time. It might be useful for me, though, to drive a motorcycle (in our village and nearby villages exclusively). My wife (who is Thai) tells me of villagers who have tooled around on motorcycles their whole lives without driver's licenses and never been stopped once. I believe it. But, at the same time, I probably stick out a bit more than the natives. Cops out here are somewhat rare. But not so rare that I should entirely discount their presence. That said, if the worst that can happen is like a 500 baht fine or something, then I'll probably be willing to risk it. So, what are the penalties if a farang gets caught riding a motorcycle without a license? Is it ever pursued as a criminal case?
  20. My beloved laptop is approaching a decade of loyal service. She has occasional issues (I assume they are age-related), and I'm starting to prepare myself for her mortality. As part of this preparation, I seek to find out if the Chromebook would be a good future choice. Aside from being kinda cheap, such a device seems very convenient for my lifestyle, which includes quite a lot of exploring by foot & backpack. some Chromebook questions: Is it easy to type on? Say someone sends me a .docx file by attachment. I can open and modify this file on a Chromebook, correct? I assume I would not be able to use Photoshop on a Chromebook. Is there any sort of workaround here? How about the Calibre e-book editing program? (rather important to me) Or the Audacity music editing program? (not quite as important) Based on the above questions, which models of Chromebook would you recommend?
  21. I'm not in Surin or Buriram. My wife occasionally listens to some sort of fm95 station, but those songs sound nothing like the ones from the village loudspeaker. Maybe I will try to find something around fm90.
