  1. Since not all English teachers in Thailand are sexual perverts, than it must be that all the sexual

perverts in Thailand are teachers, or somehow connected and in close proximity to young

adults and children.. and Thailand is haven for such possibilities as no farang is ever vetted

    for his/her criminal past...

If any one wanted an example of opening the mouth, or in this case typing, before engaging the brain, look no further than this little gem

Your inability to read > think >type, leaves me to wonder just how much contact you have had with teachers, at this or any time in your life

Without thinking, or any factual evidence, you have placed every teacher under suspicion with your twisted piece of logic i.e "all sexual perverts are teachers or somehow connected and in close proximity to young adults and children"

While it would be difficult to carry out sexual abuse without being in close proximity to the victim, I also have to ask......What the hell are you on? Some of his victims were teachers. Please excuse me but I am unaware of all that many adolescent lecturers, in this country or any other.

Further evidence, if any were needed, that you haven't got a clue about the subject is your claim that no farang is ever vetted.

However you may wish to dress this up, it is no more that unadulterated "teacher bashing"

He is close to correct. If you are a sexual predator in Thailand, you will want to be close to your victims. Therefore, you would probably want to be a teacher. I know this guy was attacking adults but that does not nullify ezzra's logic. It is basic selection bias; we select into the environment that best meets our needs. It is not that teachers are predators but predators are likely teachers.

  2.  I feel sorry for the woman and the dogs should be put down immediately. The media however loves bandying the word "pitbull" around when talking about any amstaff. bullmastiff, staffordshire terrier, bully X or any number of dogs that aren't pedigree American Pit Bull Terriers. Pit bulls are no dangerous than most other dogs of that size and stature and will only be violent to humans if trained to be. I have owned and bred A.B.P.T's for years and have never had a problem. Having said that though all my dogs are properly fenced in a totally enclosed area and generally tethered as well. It is the irresponsible owner who is at fault and anyone that would keep 4 pit bulls together in the same yard untethered deserves to be locked up.... oh but that won't happen because he's a cop and the poor lady that got mauled will never get a cracker I imagine. TIT

You really shouldn't tether your dogs. Its makes them anxious and has been shown to create aggressive behavior. I used to live in Atlanta and it was illegal to tether your dog there. There is information about tethering dogs on the humane society's website.

  3. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Ah yes, lull them into a false sense of security, then pounce!!

Quite right. Pounce on those who spoil it for the rest of us,

    @ Johnnie99

           -  do you really think that foreigners "enjoy" going on a visa run ????

its a complete waste of time and money.

if the schools (in question) were more honest and not so lazy, they would apply for the teachers work permit in the correct manner and then the teacher will not need to do these annoying visa-runs every 3 months.

its NOT the teachers that are "spoiling" it for the rest of us!!  they would LOVE to have the correct visa!!

you should blame the owners of the schools that "cant be bothered to do it properly"

That's like fencing stolen goods and saying that you're not in the wrong because YOU didn't steal them... move on son.

You're not very good at logic... move on pops.

  4. It doesn't seem to make financial sense. The four planes cost 10 billion Baht. While the numbers aren't all there as one plane costs 3.78 billion Baht, lets average it out to 2.5 billion Baht a plane. She takes approximately 15 trips abroad a year (30+ over two years) costing 10 million Baht a trip. That leads to a cost of 150 million Baht a year if she just took one plane. At her rate of usage (15 trips a year at 10 million Baht a trip), it would take 16 2/3 years to get her money's worth on one plane. That doesn't even take into account all the extra costs of owning versus chartering a plane. And she needs four planes. It just doesn't make financial sense to purchase a plane let alone four planes.

  5. When I worked in Hong Kong in the late 80's one of the most noticeable things was that kids towered over their parents. I used to see parents walking their kids to school and it wasn't unusual for Jr. to be taller than both mom & dad. I asked someone why the parents were so short and why the kids were so tall. Someone said: Milk. The kids drink milk and the parents never got milk.

The older women seemed to have some real problems with osteoporosis. They were terribly bow-legged and very hunched over.

It's anecdotal, but it seems that there is some truth to it. Genetically, we will not be taller, but good nutrition will make us reach our full potential of height.

Your right it depends on the nutrition that they are taller and they reached their full potential. The milk will not make them taller and drinking milk actually creates a process something called acidosis in the body and is actually a cause for osteoporosis...and osteoporosis is far more common in europe and in the us than in asia.

The last part is wrong. Both white and Asians are at higher risk of osteoporosis. It is the Latin and Africans that are at less risk.

  6. The last two paragraphs concern me. Chawalit states that it is unfair for AIT to compete with local institutions in undergraduate education. Competition is good. It will make the local institutions up their game. There should also be nothing keeping these other institutions from receiving donations for themselves; that is probably the main job of the dean of an educational institution.

  7. In almost all posts, posters are talking about incoming immigration, but the article is about the long immigration lines to leave Thailand. Only in Thailand have I seen such long lines. Some posters have commented about the US having long lines but they must be talking about entering the US because the US doesn't care much about who leaves. LAX is the only place where I have seen any sort of line due to immigration to enter departure gates and all the immigration officer did was make sure the passport matched the person. It took 5 seconds per person. The costs of moving airlines far outweighs the revenue of overstay fine collections.

  8. As we all know, in most of our homelands, the guy would just be simply dismissed as a lunatic and would not get any attention from even his friends, let alone the media and general public.

It's the gullible "customers" and the indiscriminate media that should be arrested for giving the guy a gram of credibility (hearers) and a platform (the media).

    T.I.T.

In my country lunatics like this and their predictions are big news and some people take them seriously

    http://en.wikipedia....imes_prediction

I'm from the same country and you are wrong. That was a big joke in the news and the public made fun of those who believed the prediction. Further, the state institutions would never (I hope!) endorse such predictions.

  9. It's good to see the government making an example of poor people who steal. It won't be tolerated.

The sooner people realise that only politicians and police are allowed to steal the better.

The courts are not the government...

Apparently you never heard of the judicial branch...

Apparently you have not? The judges are not fired and re-appointed whenever a government is elected. They are hired as any other civil servant employee.

The problem is you two are using different definitions of the word 'government'. TAWP is using the English meaning where it means the ruling party and Maswov is using the American meaning where there are three branches of government, legislative, executive, and judicial. Both right in your own definitions of the word.

  10. Please provide an example of any socialist experiment that has worked. Handouts is never the way to go, it is allowing people the freedom to excel that is. Don't exchange a broken system with another. Like fixing a broken leg by starting to bash the other one...

Examples of socialist experiments that have worked: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, UK, and Canada. Socialized education and health care are the building blocks for the market and competition to excel. Without socialized education and health care, the divide between the working class and the elite expands to the point where the elite have an unfair advantage at birth. Socialism in the form of education and health allows for equal opportunity and greater competition which creates greater innovation and increases the standards of living. The benefits of capitalism work best when there is a strong system of entitlements in place to allow for increased competition. We do not need pure capitalism or pure socialism, but markets to function in conjunction with socialistic programs that allow all people to start on an equal level.

  11. It was the easiest, quickest interview. It took about 3 minutes like the other poster said and then said you can come and pick up your visa in a couple days. We said we need it tomorrow b/c we already bought tickets for the weekend and they were nice enough to get her the visa by the next day. It was a very easy experience.

I don't really remember much about questions. It was like a really casual quick conversation. I'm sure the interviewer was paying much attention to what we were saying. I think if you are legit they can tell and just give you the visa. So don't worry too much about it.

I'm not sure about the bar thing. If I was you I would not have called it a bar but a restaurant since you said you served food. But with the whole family working there, it doesn't sound scandalous.

    Good Luck!

  12. The silly cow deserves everything she gets except the cash handouts from the Australian media.

    Why?

Also, why is she a cow?

It seems the police don't understand the concept of discretion. The crime of stealing a towel worth no more than a couple hundred baht should be punished with only a ticket. Also, once the friend confesses the ticket should go to the friend and not the lady arrested. Just b/c she is the walking out with the stolen merchandise does not mean she is the one stealing it.

  13. Hello!

I am trying to rent a car over the winter holidays and all the companies I am contacting (Hertz, Budget, Avis, Petchburi Car Rent) have a 20,000 Baht deposit (24,000 Baht for Petchburi Car Rent). The maximum payout for an accident is only 5 or 10k with the insurance that comes with the rental, but the deposit is 20k. What is the reason for the deposit? Is it just for making sure we return the car?

My wife called Budget and Avis today and neither of them could tell us what the deposit is for and also why it is not mentioned on their website. I can imagine a tourist coming with a car rental reservation and finding out he has to deposit either 20k or 40k (for the nicer cars). I emailed Petchburi Car Rent to ask why and they never replied. The lady from Budget told my wife it is like this in all countries but I am from the US and know it is not like that here. People wouldn't rent all the time if they had to have $600 to $1200 tied up on their credit card especially when your on vacation when you just might need that extra money.

So back to my basic question of does anyone know what the deposit is for and why it is so much more than the maximum payout for any damage to the car? My only answer would be to make sure the car is returned but I hope it is not or it shows the state of the consumers in Thailand.

Thanks all! Also, if anyone knows of a reputable renter in BKK that doesn't require a deposit, that would be great.

  14. Perfect, the missus and I always go back to her parent's for Christmas. I guess it will be easy for me, I mean her to vote. :D

Has Thaksin been naughty or nice? we'll see what santa brings for him.

that will be a dry day for the tourist on one of the busiest days of the year ,then the recount ,why not do that one on the 31 dec ,really start the new year off well :o

Beyond me too! :D The Tourist Authority of Thailand is crying out for help in bringing the tourist back and they pull a date like this out of the bag. It's not just about not being able to have a beer (as we can do that at home) but when will they stop screwing up the fun for the tourists. Closing down all the fun houses during the high season is a major shot in the foot for the tourist industry, i just hope they kick up stink about it, as it will hurt them the most not the pockets of the tourists.

    2. Oh sweet mother of God. For ######s sake.

    1. 99.9% of tourists wont know there is even going to be an election before booking their holidays.

The 0.1% who do, won't know it's a 'dry' day.

    3. It's not really 'dry' if you know where to look...........plenty of the tourist places will be open, and i'll betcha 3/4 of a bottle of Chang and a packet of Lays on that.

    4. It wont kill them to not have a sodding drink for ONE NIGHT

    5. No one will not come to Thailand because of one ######ing dry day.

    6. This is a Buddhist country, though not officially of course. Whilst the 23rd of December appears to many foreigners brought up in christian countries as being 2 days before christmas, to a great many Thais it's just another day.

Lighten up. The tourist market won;t crumble because of this !!

The main point of it being during the main tourist season is that the Thais who come from the country and work in the tourist industry won't be able to vote b/c they have to work. It doesn't matter if the government gives an extra holiday so the Thais can go back home to vote. The employers are not going to let their employees go home for a couple days during the busiest two weeks of the year in the tourist industry. I bet the current government thought of this too. If it was one or even better two weeks earlier it would be no problem or at least a lot smaller problem for the tourist workers to head home to vote.

  15. In my UN days one of the big projects UNICEF was fighting was Nestle - they were hitting the mothers with free powdered milk while they were still in hospital after giving birth and telling mothers that it was better for the baby and that the mum would keep her boobs shape better etc etc etc. Good reason to boycott Nestle products - they do this all over the world :o

Thanks for fighting with Nestle's You must be brave going against that big terrible United States Company.

The UN should investigate that terrible America Company.

Since when did Nestle become an American company?

  16. My family is coming in town on Wednesday and would like to take them there if it is still open. I've heard that it is and that it isn't. Does anybody actually know for certain if the night bazaar is still open or not? Thanks

  17. Thanks for the try in your replies. I think there are probably better answers out there. I'm not too worried about the price except for being taken advantage of by a supposed friend. Friends shouldn't take profit from friends.

But on the previous post, all the mixers are free provided by the hotel so we are just going to purchase probably a case of Red.

I would prefer to only get honest answers from people that have experience buying cases. I am not aiming to start a pointless thread so please only constructive answers.
