Puch
I don't often come on this board but I am all in Favour of The Pie man and will place an order and then report back.
If you read my comment you will know That up in Chiang Mai, folk in the Baking business have told me that they cannot obtain Lard.
The man in Ban Chaing told me he thought his baker had folk bring in Lard from UK. Even I thought that was strange.
I am not a baker and must trust the folk who make Pies.
The owner of my 'Local' tried to make Lard in his kitchen and the ensuing Smell emptied the bar.
Spend all day searching for something that Erks me ! What erked Me ? Your not an ex Crab are you ? Erk !
During this hot weather I have been spending more time on the net, the heat gets me down so my air con gets hammered.
Luv a good Pie, quality in UK had dropped last time I was back, lost too many small local producers.
Thank you for your polite reply, I am not so kind to folk who want to play ignorant.

And a very nice day to you.
One day I may tell you about when I was married to a Buriram Girl, thats how I came on the Issan thread and even ask how the old town has changed.

and, pray tell, how would you know that, then?
You Avatar tells me your a Exhibitionist looking for attention.

Pies.
The Quality Pie, what put the Great into Britain.
-
Correct.
Not my fault you have led a shelter life.
There are matters of consequence on the real world not some Thai squable that no frang will ever understand.
john
Now where that phone number ?

The most disturbing Thread on Thailand I have ever read.
I live in Chiang Mai and rubbish Pies are common as muck.
UN Irish & Charlei's fish and chips are best of a bad lot.
Lard is the problem, Bakers assure me it is unobtainable in Thailand.
When down in Ban Chaing the other month I had a steamed Steak & Kidney pud made with proper Lard, very nice, but I was unable to make contact with the Baker, bar would have sold me a quantity but no contact address.
I have downloaded info and will follow up.

In anticipation.

The convoy went up Thanon Suthep.
Are you sure ?
Thanon Suthep is and has been quite all day.
Did they not go up the road to Doi Suthep, Haui Kaeo.
Popular problem with tourists who think Thanon Suthep leads to Top of Doi Suthep.

A map and exact location would be of more use then a Vid which I doubt I can remember.
I am Partial to Italian food, dine twice a week at M Cusine on Suthep Rd which is very good food at the right price.
So Map please if I am to venture into Bandit country.

About Two weeks ago I had problems with my Maxnet /3 BB connection. frequent 'Freezed out'.
I got though to a English speaking Thai who assured me all would be OK in a hour or so. This turned out true.
Then one week later problems started again, I phoned up and was put through to Same man, he speaks very rapid English.
He remembered me and said There has been a problem on the connection to your part of CM, Suthep area, and a cable is being replaced. In about 3 hrs all will be well.
Well my connection has been good since, not perfect, occasional freeze up for a min or so then back to normal.
The condo I live in has a large Internet Cafe downstairs and I believe they do not help my ADSL connection.

I know the Brit civvy, ex R.E. Staff Officer, who was the liaison with the Hunter Det.
We normally have a curry lunch once a week.
However I will stick with my comment that there where NO British combat troops, should have said ground forces, deployed to Thailand.

In 72 I was stationed in West Germany.
The German barber had a selection of German Language magazines and many featured Articles on the New Tourist Sexspot of Pattaya.
So I will agree with the gents who placed much of the blame on The Germans and Condor airline.
To the best of my knowledge the only Brit troops in Thailand in 70's where Engineers building Airfields, associated facilities and a Large Signals section on intercept duties. I have never heard of any suggestion of Brit combat troops. Later some SF where deployed to train Thai SF during the Cambodian troubles.

I know well a US member of JUSMAG who was over during the time mentioned and I will ask him for his memories.

The Thai people will sort out their politics in their own way.
Frangs like me will never understand.
I was told by an Old hand who Knew W.A.R. Wood when he was alive as a very old man
The longer I stay here the less I know or understand.
Wood had come in Queen Victoria's time and had been HM Consul General In Chiang Mai, marriage to a local lady had prevented him being Ambassador.

One week before I plan to do my Yearly Non Imm Retirement visa, I go down Chiang Mai Immigration and check rules so that I may see if there are any Changes or New Policies.
On the day I turn up with new haircut and am clean shaven. Fresh pressed shirt and long trousers.
Yes Sir No Sir Three bags full Sir.
Ultra Polite and when as normal
'I need one more copy of X'
Certainly and off I go.
Two hrs 30 min for new 12 month visa and multiple entry is normal.

My 3 BB connection has been bad for most of this week.
I complained on Thursday then improvement for 24 hrs and then back to frequent 'Disconnects'.
I do wonder if it's a Chiang Mai problem.

Make sure you use the eastern ring road around Bangkok, much quicker and get on to east Motorway at Savanaphum then it's Sukhumvit down past Sattahip, Rayong.

"CM is not Patttaya; thank god.
And if higher car rentals means it stays that way and keeps the atypical resident and tourist from there away from CM then 20000 a baht is a small price to pay "
Here Here.
I have rented 4 times from C M 's oldest car hire firm and had excellent service.
Not the cheapest but Good.

The last coup did little but remove the legally elected government and increase Military budget by 30 %.
I do not doubt that a Taksin sympathetic party would secure most votes and be biggest party if an election where held now.
But what of Taksin's health ? Romour started almost 12 months ago on Prostate cancer.
He has been remarkably quite and out of the limelight in last hectic days.
The Thai people will sort out Their Country in their own way which none of us Frangs will ever understand.

The Cockpit shop on Mahidol Rd charges about B3,000 per panel for repair.
I had B12,000 sort out on my many scrapes and dents last year.

Or there's the Viet shop near Chiang Phuekt Gate.

Lancashire Hot Pot is made with Lamb.

'T Cut' is what I used back in UK to restore car paint work.
I do not know if it's available in Thailand but would imagine so or a local equivalent.

Strange as it may seem
"I was informed by a Thai lass with a brother in immigration that on the QT they had been told to issue retirement Visas to anyone that had 800kbht in a Thai bank account, no age requirement at all. You could always go along and try it!"
Might work.
I have lived retired in CM for 9 years and really old hands, 20 years + often say that Immigration Officers, who are all Police Officers, often have their own way of Interpreting Thai Law as THEY see fit.
Friends in BKK have told me they do not do the 90 Day reporting in check, that once cost me B2,000 for being 8 days over, Sunday was day 7.
But Rules are Rules and THEY can play games.
A polite well dressed and turned out attitude helps when dealing with ALL Thai Authority.

The last time I came across this problem the guy who 'Couldn't get married for a certain reason' had too get a business visa.

When I first came to CM and knew Nothing, I bought a 650 Honda Bros and asked the dealer to get me a 'Legal' plate & Book.
B28,000 was what I paid him for Book and plate.
Some years later a Thai friend took bike down Nong Hoy to do yearly registration and big trouble.
I was told that if I had gone down as I had in previous years I would have been in Nick for frame registration Number had been changed.
I went round original dealer and he waffled, took bike down and came back with the new yearly tax disk.
I'll do same for you next year for B2,000.
I fummed but eventually swore I would never do business with him again.
I aquired a legal 650 with proper plates and book.
I am told it's B80,000 for Legal plate and Green book.

How True.
I escape CM every year.

"The protesters brought Buddhist monks to the front, to counter which the police regrouped by bringing female riot police to the front of their lines. The protesters retreated as Buddhist monks in the Theravada sect cannot have physical contact with females."
Only in Thailand
As long as the PM can prevent Bloodshed he can stay in power.
Have to eat some Poo but with Songkran starting he should get another week in power.
