  1. I am not much into the oil market, any idea what happens with Norway? They are also quite reliant on Oil. And for whatever reason their soverein wealth fund has a lot of oil investments, they wanted to change that but not sure they ever did: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-norway-swf-oil/norway-sovereign-wealth-fund-to-divest-oil-explorers-keep-refiners-idUSKBN1WG4R9

Oh Jeez- here we go again.

Can people not get over the use of Beemers- it's insignificant in the big scheme of things ('infamous' AND 'vaunted' in the same story- make yer mind up!).

They are only 'infamous' in the eyes of Thaigezzers who find plenty of other things to moan about.

Just be grateful they are taking Crims off the street (and yes if you overstay you ARE a criminal despite what some may think) whatever their background.

I'm surprised no one has suggested exporting one to London yet to sit outside 'Boy's door.

BMW prolly gave them a good leasing deal, and that's it. Stupid discussion, Thailand has bigger issues besides BMW or Lexus.

I suppose all this confirms what we already know: you can't trust bankers. Either that - or the present Thai regime has achieved miracles of wealth distribution after one year in power.

Maybe we should ask the PM!

    Nah, they didn't.

Both DHL and Fedex can do it, but it's complicated and expensive. I gave up trying to import a battery for ebikes here...

You are prolly better off using one of the weird delivery services that pack your stuff in a bus that goes to cambodia and then delivers it.... i have however, absolutely zero experience with that stuff.

You really think that it is already over? The UK is making contingency plans for up to 20% of the population being infected and you think Thailand has it all sorted with just one fatality. No one knows how this will pan out but one thing is for sure - ignoring it is not an option (unless you are a hermit).

70% is what leading german virologist expects.

That's the estimate of Christian Drosten, head of virology at Berlin Charité, Co-Finder of SARS, Top expert on SARS and the first person to develop a Covid-19 test. He's also top advisor for virology to the german government.

    This guy: https://www.express.co.uk/news/science/1249963/Coronavirus-news-COVID19-worse-than-Spanish-Flu-latest-coronavirus-update

    Quote

Professor Christian Drosten from the Charite clinic in Berlin, Germany, estimates the virus could infect up to 70 percent of the world or 5.2 billion people.

Of course that's worst case, but...

But yeah, let's listen to the thai government instead.

If the banking system in Thailand is based on Western banks and I am fairly certain that it is, when you deposit money in a checking or savings account you are essentially making a loan to the bank. You then become an unsecured creditor that the bank promises to pay back.  However, in the event of a banking crisis "your" money can be used to try and save the bank (bail-in) and stock of dubious value issued to you as compensation.  Each country is a bit different but the process is basically the same and it all started with Cyprus a few years ago.  Also the amount insured by the Thai version of deposit insurance will drop to 1 million baht this June or July and has been steadily dropping for years.

Meanwhile in india, one of the biggest banks just collapsed. people can't withdraw their money.

It can happen easily, everywhere, here too.

isolate such people immediately in the interest of humanity. covid-19 is serious.

I know. You have to tell the government here, not me.

Covid tests should be free for everyone with symtoms. It's not about single people who might  die, it's to protect everyone around them. Charging for that stuff in a country where most people are broke will cost many many lives.

Always bear in mind, these are NOT law enforcement officials. These guys are local franchisees, simply working the franchise. Resist them with all of your might.

Exactly, they would be all behind bars in our home country - or in politics.

"I was always told not to overstay for even one day because that stamp can come back to haunt you later and I live by that advice here."

You should not believe everything you hear or read. Why would that stamp haunt you in the future? What are the odds immigration will find out he's on a 28 hours overstay? Don't forget he's got a ticket out of the country. Pay the fine at the airport and forget about it.

The answer is literally above your post.

Thai Elite visa is impossible with an overstay in the last 3 months, and there's no reason why that can't haunt you back on other types of visas too.

How do they enforce the worldwide taxation? (Note, it is found in Bali as well, but I have yet to learn how it is enforced?)

How does germany enforce taxes? The USA?

They lock you away if you don't pay, simple. And Vietnam is notorious for this.

Vietnam is part of the global OECD automatic tax exchange, and other countries simply report your income and bank accounts to them: https://www.oecd.org/tax/exchange-of-tax-information/viet-nam-and-palau-join-the-global-forum-on-tax-transparency.htm

Another case of Gov lying.  Oh the masks don't work for regular folks but if they buy the mask's we won't have masks to protect our health workers. Are we different from them? It will protect them but not us?

Exactly, it's all a question of math.

While not perfect, even surgical masks make sure you get LESS viral load. The more viral load you get, the more likely are you to be infected. One single virus doesn't infect you, many will however. If a mask keeps 90% of virii load away - that definitely helps.

I have never done a TM30 form. It was not being enforced when I started doing extensions of stay.

When they started enforcing it at the office here if you made a trip out of the country I had not ever made a trip out of the country. Then about a year ago when wanted one if you stayed someplace that had done one I had not recently stayed in a hotel that had reported me so again not asked for one.

Last time i did 90 day report at CW they didn't care anymore for tm30, but that could be just randomness. Guess it was just a money grab.

Well, yeah, in the deeply rural areas (as in the OP case) the vast majority of "professionals" are unprofessional by the western standards.

Nothing stops one from hiring a company from Bangkok and co to do the work there. Everyone whos building on a small island is doing that too.

Stop hiring locals, you aren't the local job center. it's not your responsibility to feed the local village.

It states this in the article "It was discovered that the employment seminar had been organised without the necessary licences."

Nothing to do with needing a work permit. It may of been a seminar about recruiting people to work outside the country that requires a license.

yes, this was basically a boilerroom scam, trying to peddle investment to investors, prolly one of the cryptocurrency MLM shemes.

Here my comment from back then, op should have no issues in what he plans to do, especially if he doesn't charges people to attend it.

You're absolutely correct, as a farang you'll almost always get charged inflated farang prices.

Even if it wasn't known to the builder at the time of signing an agreement that he (they) is dealing with a farang, when it's discovered lately on to be the case, the builder will find ways for unexpected cost over-runs, much more so than if dealing with a local.

To get the thai prices you have to let the thais (but if only qualified and trusted) to be involved in the project and remove yourself completely out of the visible to the outsiders picture.

I think what others here were referring to by saying not to ever trust the family is when the random family members get involved in the project at various stages without any knowledge or understanding of what they are doing and screwing things up in the crazy ways that are incomprehensible for a western mind.

If you do unprofessional stuff then yes, maybe.

Every good architect knows the correct prices for material and will send a blank BOQ over there and check that no ripoff occurs, they also know the labor prices for your area.

It's their job to make sure the construction get's done correctly, if you deal with professional no such issues will occur.
