Was paying around 15k baht for US accountant to fill in the blanks and send my taxes electronically.  I did all the work gathering the info...

Tried Turbo Tax...was pleasantly surprised at how easy and thorough it is.  Been using Turbo Tax for several years now for fed and state filings...very pleased.

Does TurboTax have a provision whereby they can submit for deposit in a U.S. bank, any refund from the IRS? Thanks.

  2. Never received 7162 this year, so last week contacted Manila and was sent a blank 7162 form from them  to be filled out and returned to Manila.  So I filled out the form and returned it to them via Manila email.

Only time will tell, but I suspect problem has been rectified. Manila office was very helpful and responded to me in a timely fashion.

In the 70's Patpong was a great place. I remember Sugar Shack as a cool place. Bobby's Arms in the car park was a good drinking spot, where all types gathered in a good spirit. Yes, the Foodland was a handy asset also. A military government brought in midnight closing at one time. The bar I was in organised a convoy of taxis (traffic was allowed then) to take all who wanted to some large house in the burbs, where the show continued. Nothing stays the same forever, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

Yeah,  they were called "blue shows" as I recall.   Early 70's

Do tell.... How is the taste of lizard doo on toast? .... Better than Vegemite?

Fortunately, the 3 or 4 times it has happened, the poor gits have escaped before becoming gecko on toast.

Ours even have names, the one that lives under the sofa is called Somchai and the one in the bathroom is Somjing....Somchai comes out at night only and eats all the insects that are on the floor...

I like it when they all feast on the insects at the outdoor lights, sometimes 5-6 of them are there together waiting for the termites after the rain...they can eat one every minute and can easy eat 5 of them in a sitting.

But they still scare me when they hide in the coffeemachine or just jump on me head suddenly.

I really cannot tolerate when they leap out of the toaster. Other than that I tolerate them;  as was said they do terminate a lot of insects.

Initiated a transfer on Oct. 3 from HSBC USA to BBL, received Oct. 9. It was a domestic transfer so I presume ACH format. I have yet to have one denied since the original deadline in April.

I received SS pension on 3 Oct. so I am guessing it (SS) was in the IAT format. Have yet to attempt a transfer from my BofA account domestically via New York branch but your post gives me encouragement. Thanks

A few years short of passing the old fart requirement. 15 at heart, 125 at health.

Yikes, the 125 health is ominous.  I am 40 at heart and well past the old fart requisite. Health is day to day.

Would be super to see some relief re:  90 day and TM30/Tm28. I think, although misguided perhaps, optimism is going to be my trajectory.

Well, okay, so they say this a law is outdated and I quote '...needs to change...' I don't see anything in that says it will be abolished, just that it will change. And to NCC1701A who wrote [with regard to Dexlowe's '...cynical'] 'that is all there is on this forum. not a good place to judge much of anything except where to buy paint.' I ask what interpretation do you give for this 'needs to change'?

    '...The immigration chief added that since August 31st developments have been put in place to "relieve the problems being experienced by foreigners residing in the country". Okay, I'll agree that this looks like a positive move in favour of expats so let's not be cynical (eh?) and look on the bright side. Recent problems were;

    1. Embassy letter; relief = will be to reinstate the former acceptance of the embassy letter for the combo method...even better, scrap it altogether and accept the foreigners own documents only.

    2. Extra 3 months (after extension renewal) on seasoned funds in bank account; relief = extra 3 months scrapped and no seasoning required.

    3. Insurance Non-OA visa; relief = government to issue a standard insurance scheme for all expats, all ages, costing (say) 20,000 Baht per year.

    4. TM 30; relief = one time signing only and signature on 90 day report sufficient.

Some very nice extra reliefs would be: One year extension extended to five years but with same financial requirements as for one year; 90 day report changed to 365 days. (Please, no one to be cynical. In fact please add to list. (hint; those on marriage extension scheme only wife present at application and marriage certificate required.)

    Yeah party time????????

    Recent problems were......

Now where are the recent solutions? I missed them somewhere along the way. Not totally unrealistic for me.

I had to file the TM30 to get the extension.  The immigration office did the great majority of the extension processing but without a TM30 on-file the officer would not finalize the extension.  The officer sent to the TM30 area to clear-up the TM30 issue...that is, file a TM30 and pay the fine since I had never filed one since being in Thailand for over a decade and doing 9 previous extensions of stay.  Now with a TM30 receipt in-hand I went back to the officer and she finished approving the extension.

O.K.  What's the deal? AFAIK you only need to file a TM30 if you are out of your province for more than 24 hours. I have not filed a TM30 either after having lived here for 10+ years.  I always take my wife when I go for annual and put my current address on the TM7. Same address for the past 10 years.

  10. I don't know the logistics regarding your problem but I was able to use a slingshot as I had vantage point that was free of endangering other properties.  I did not actually hit any off the pigeons, but discouraged them from roosting there after about a week of target practice.

    Wow!

There is lot to digest here!

    a) not sure what the MAYOR OF LONDON has to do with the Bahamas?

    b) But taking the bate: what should the Mayor of LONDON have done about a hurricane in the Bahamas?

    c) Trump called of a visit to Poland (which he later congratulated on the 8oth anniversary ot being invaded by Germany!), to stay home and monitor the incoming hurricane! ...and then played golf!

    d) just for A SECOND, imagine President Obama had done this! just for a second....

    a)   He, the mayor, is a British official, ergo, part of the U.K. government of which the Bahamas is a protectorate.

    b)  What he should not have done.He really had no business criticizing  a U.S. government official who did in fact have all available resources at the ready, including the U.S. coast guard and supplies donated (to the Bahamas, a UK territory)

    c) With today's technology it is totally with-in the scope to be able to monitor the situation even from the golf course.

    d)  I believe that Obama actually headed off to Hawaii during a similar event during his administration.

I have yet to see any UK aid being rendered much less any empathy from The Mayor.
