AFAIK his stage2 implied only replacing the exhaust system, modifying the cooling system... and ECU remap of course.

But yes, the chaps over at Motion Garage told him it won't be too long until he may need to rebuild the engine. But that would be the perfect time for him to reinforce the engine, replace cams etc etc.

He could have gone at least for the C43 AMG, but he really was keen on getting the 2.0l for some reason and tuning it... And I am sure that reason was not the price..

The reason is the C43 V6 is quite restricted on tuning. Especially when comparing to BMW 3.0 inline 6. A standard M3 Competitions banks 500hp, but my friend has been running a stage 2 kit for nearly 2 years with 630 hp and 820nm. If we are talking cars in the 4-5 mio thb class in Thailand then the M40i will be extremely easy to tune compared to C43 - and the best bang for your buck if you like hp and nm.

OP: we look forward to hear your feedback on this car.

An ex work colleague has one  and he lives in Chaeng Wattana and he bought it as a grey import. He is currently in Dubai but although he has had it a while I doubt if he is selling it, but I will ask him next time I contact him

Please pm me if it is an original Audi RS2. I love that car and engine - though older now

Well if you wanted a general discussion then why mention a 4 mill price, which the C43 or RS2 are not ? Sorry for the confusion if discussing cars up to and including the 4 mill was not your intention after all

Sorry for bringing in an old 1992 Audi RS2 into the picture (nothing to do with OP's thread just stating a 5-6 cyl engine sounds very good at high rpms.)

If there is a Audi RS2 registered in Thailand I would be interested to purchase it.

Well - someone mentioned the C43 sounding <deleted> and the C63 being the dogs.

The difference between the 2 being:

    - 115 HP

    - 2 cylinders

    - $258,000

To me - that's not many extra horses for the quarter mill.

Pedro01 you will be surprised about the power from the BMW 40i I6 engine, it revs much faster and will be more brutal than C43.

I dont think Performance exhaust is an option on the C43 in Thailand, but never the less the M40i will give you more pops and bangs / enjoyment, exhaust opening comes as standard on 40i and if you drive the car in Sport+ it will sound better than C43 as it revs faster.

Buy the C63, the V8 sounds awesome, music to the ears.

It really doesn't matter what model car, a six cylinder exhaust sounds horrible.

The C63 is only 6 mio THB more than OPs thread! marginally faster than a C43 and the 4wd of C43 suits Thai roads better.

When comparing the C63 with current M3 or M4 CS I would chose the BMW any day at a lower cost. The inline 6 engine is a beast and sounds like a beast.

2022 C63 will be a 4 pot engine, but including electric turbo chargers and batteries from Formula 1.

No doubt it will be fast, but my main target with our C43 was to get something sporty and min 5-6 cyl without "hybrid".

I mention 5 cyl as my previous Audi RS2 was the absolute fastest car I have owned and the sound of 5 cyl reving to 10k rpm with a GT35R turbo beats the sound from a 6/8/12 cyl engine any day. If you ask me..

  6. Good choice Pedro01, you will love that I6 engine. It is more powerful than the C43, not on paper, but IRL.

Our C43 V6 loses power in the top rpms. It does not feel happy near 6000 rpm. The 40i I6 happily revs to 6500 rpm and would love to go higher.

How much did you end up paying?

Our C43 was assembled in Thailand, so if the Z4 is assembled in Germany, then there is a small "confidence buffer/value" in this.

Note we did not have any problems on our C43 over the first 15 months, only enjoyment.

Toyota Supra co-developed the 40i engine together with BMW. So there will not be a Z4 m40i Coupe as the Supra has the rights to the hard top version (sadly).

Yes correct, but mainly interesting if you are on an island or on a boat where you can use the wind to move out your bait.

I usually set my bait at 1-1.5m.

I dont like when I lose a balloon in the sea, but I try to pay back by always collecting 1-2 full bags of plastic garbage.

For my coming holiday I am planning to use either:

    1. Mountain dew bottle connected with rubber band (at least this bottle will not be swallowed by fish or turtles and I can easily remove 10-20 plastic bottles from a beach on every trip).

    2. Below YouTube rig seems to be a good idea as well and something I will try. Though I plan to replace the 4-6lb fishing line with a rubber band.

Overall I would like to get away from balloons, as they can split in 2-3 pcs, if they pop.

  8. Boat, captain license, insurance and a good sea chart would be the first 4 steps.

I am not sure captain license is required for a sailing boat?

    Andaman sea or Thailand Gulf?

Take it easy in the beginning and learn about the waters, depths, reefs, rocks etc. There are many reefs/rocks which are not marked on both Garmin and Navionics sea charts.

My most enjoyable moments in Thailand has been our fishing trips and anchoring in lagoons/beaches such as Koh Khram Yai, Samae San, Chuang, Chan, Samed & Koh Mak.

  9. I can recommend The Kitchen in Bang Saray.

All sausages are made from old recipes and best quality ingredients.

The Kitchen Special is similar to what you would put in a French-hotdog or normal hotdog.

Wiener sausage is the same as red sausage, but without the coloring.

    Olma Bratwurst (my favorite).

Super Borge (what we call a Frankfurter in Denmark) 150-160g each.

200thb for cooler box, dry ice and delivery, or free delivery by ordering 10 items.

  10. Hi

For what it is worth; I have seen the mechanic service reels at 7seasproshop, Bangkok.

It looked very professional on a clean towel, lots of tools and all parts nicely lined up. It looked proper.

This is where I plan to service my Stella and Tiagra reels, when the time comes..

7 years old and still smooth as butter, so I have not serviced them yet. Only oiled them up 2-3 times and always fresh water rinse after salt water usage.

Maybe check on YouTube and see if the reels you have are easy to DIY service?

  11. Welcome.

Sandy bottom, sounds like you could catch a Stingray, so please be prepared to release these in a safe way without getting stung.

I would recommend you to stay away from bottom fishing and use the wind to get the bait out to the fish.

Live bait is very easy to catch and also to keep alive in a net while fishing. (smallest hook you can find, small piece of squid and a pier). The nets are 300-400thb and can be found in any local fishing shop.

Steel leaders, treble hooks, floaters and even bio degradable balloons can be ordered online from 7seasproshop.

I have caught Queenfish, King Mackrel, Barracuda, Grouper, Needlefish and Cobia with live bait and this method, strike rate is nearly 100% when the bait gets out 100-150m which is difficult or impossible to achieve with casting. At least with live bait it is.

  12. What species do you wish to target?

Your name indicates you are on Samui, so why not consider catching live bait on a pier and chose a pier with wind from land side = you can let the live bait float out 100-200m and most likely catch Barracuda or Needlefish.

Or buy some fresh squid, the fresher the better.

I would avoid bottom fishing, unless you target Groupers. Gropers will go straight to the reef and if big you cannot stop them = line will be cut.

    tight lines

My partner have been snorkeling 7 times in 7 different locations on our trip to southern Thailand--in the Krabi island area and around the Surin Islands.  You hear all the horror stories about the oceans littered with plastic waste but we did not see a single plastic bag or bottle--or any other trash.  I was amazed at how clean the areas were where we snorkeled and the water was crystal clear.

A bit similar from my side, I have been fishing around Koh Chang, Mak, Kood the last week with 4 rods and deep diving lures AND not a single plastic bag caught.

It is unusual for me to not catch a plastic bag once or X/MANY times per day of fishing = very good if garbage into the ocean is truly being reduced.

Plenty of other debris floating around, but all in the natural category, such as: wood, palm leaves, sea weed, coco nuts etc.

  14. There are Navy guards on all beaches and they will chase you away.

We have anchored/slept many nights in the large lagoon. Just ensure you anchor on sand and not on top of corals/rocks!

Fishing is great on the South and West side of the island, I can send you some of our best locations by pm if you wish? (Rapala magnum deep divers at 6-9m depth works great for Kings, Barracuda and Queenfish).

Be careful, the waves are much bigger on the South and West side.

  15. I tested different diesel options on our Hilux 2.8, three years ago. I found that Shell Vpower presented slightly longer mileage, though the difference was only around 1 km per liter. Engine felt more happy, but I cannot say I felt more power.

In my home country I can confirm there is quite a big difference between premium and non-premium diesel fuels.

Original question is if there is any difference in Thailand?

I believe Shell Vpower is offering a better premium diesel fuel than other Thai companies and I am happy to spend a bit extra for an engine that feels more happy and from my trials proves to do longer mileage, which makes the cost of fuel close to same.

Off topic; For our gasoline car we only use PTT Gasoline 95 (pure gasoline and no ethanol) This fuel makes a bigger difference against other Premium 95+ fuels which has ethanol in the mix. There is a big difference in power and the mileage is around 20% better or 2 km per liter on our car with Gasoline 95.

And YES a turbo, will spool up faster with premium fuel vs. cheapest fuel. (can easily be proven, plenty of reports - but outside of Thailand)

Yeah good idea , but waste of money! I think every Thai have seen own eyes what happen in traffic! Unfortunately!

Who say it is a waste of money? from my memory it worked pretty well in my home country and other countries who took same actions, as the roads became bigger, cars became faster etc. It was a necessary reaction.

TV stations makes ok money so why not put in 2-3 warning videos every night - for a greater future? Only when the government ask them to do so, so I dont think it is so much about money or waste of money. It is more about starting to do something instead of just giving up and saying "This Is Thailand" cannot change.

In my young days I had to pass:

    - Kindergarten, walking exam. To be allowed to walk alone or with friends on the street.

    - School, bicycle exam. To be allowed to ride a bicycle.

    - 16 year old, scooter exam (up to 50 ccm)

    - 18 year old, car and big bike (motorbike) exam and both were mandatory minimum 18 hours of theory and training.

Each step with a bit of discipline, made me look forward to the next step and entering adulthood.

Something completely missing in Thailand as Children can drive a motorbike which can go 120-130kmh as soon as they can reach the ground.
