The war is going great
They own their own currency, Treasury can borrow from the Fed, for 0%. Their capacity for debt is infinite. Inflation will be the problem, not a lack of currency.

Bogan Australians
I am reminded of the scene in Hamburger Hill (I think it was) where some solider castigated another for his language, f this and f that, and he said "careful you'll go back home, have dinner with your mom and ask her to pass the f...en potatoes" :) That aside, not sure you care about their derriere's so much?

Buying a condo
It would be nice if this happened in Australia, insurance fraud is rife here with the corporate managers often paying inflated insurance claims and skimming off the top for administration fees (at least there is insurance), it's one of the reasons I wont buy a "condo" in Australia again that has a building manager. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-02-10/body-corporates-urged-to-be-cautious-after-alleged-strata-fraud/106300380 https://www.accomnews.com.au/2024/09/australias-strata-industry-under-fire/ As to the OP definetly not a place I would buy, sure a condo but a but higher up, with some cooling breeze et

Thailand Eyes 30-Day Limit on Visa-Free Stay for Security Reasons
My experience with the ball ache of visa application process and bureaucracy, having to go into immigration and get a visa extension... not for me, it is enough to see me on a plane and leaving for other places. I see the guy on YT retireandgo thinks much the same. That was my point, if only 1%-2% of tourists think similarly then they will be elsewhere and have seemingly zero impact on crime, the reason given for the change

Thailand Eyes 30-Day Limit on Visa-Free Stay for Security Reasons
90 in Malaysia, and that's why as a traveler I would spend more time there. We had planned to be in Thailand for 50 days or so come May but may have tore-evaluate that if this comes in quickly. Cambodia has super easy visas so we will spend more time there this year, I am too old for all this visa ball ache :) If crime is the issue, not sure how shortening it will make it better, criminals aren't well know for abiding by the law, so making it more illegal won't help. As mentioned by another poster, if there is a particular nation or 5 who have citizens who are particularly troublesome, remove them from a the list of nations hose citizens can get access and make them apply for an e-visa so they can be assessed

Wise now allows very low daily and monthly card spending limits
You can freeze, then unfreeze it instantly on the go as well, which I do as I don't use it that much, as its not that good a travel card (for Aussies). I have a virtual Wise card for tap 'n go on the phone and the actual card itself that I rarely use. If there is fraud on the virtual card, you can freeze it, sort it with Wise and while you wait to sort that card, create another in seconds. They have their specific use cases, as an Australian they're not a very good travel card (better using Macquarie Bank or Americans using Schwab) but having multiple currencies is handy as I have some USD investments in the US, they have an income I can transfer from my broker to WISE using ACH pulls for free. Once in WISE I can spend it on the card or convert it to AUD and send it to my Aussie bank account. I used to use Citibank for much of this, who were excellent but they shut down in Australia. I only keep a small balance with WISE. Mine was applied for in Australia

Thai Trade Deficit Widens on Rising China Imports
maybe it will, do they import coal for power ? if so it will cut that import, as well as help clean the air slowly by using less coal i.e better health outcomes. People in Australia who get solar often get ecars and charge them for free off solar, so that helps with clearer air and less oil imports. Anyone who has watched the surge in China would have seen that.

British Couple Find Bargain Life in Thailand's Affordable Charm
While I don't necessarily disagree with you, it doest bother me as isn't this the perfect example of the competitive market ? The vast hordes who create content will be winnowed, more will then try, rinse and repeat. That said, I am surprised how much they can be paid, this old Aussie guy (I say old but he's about my age) https://www.youtube.com/@fiascodagama1 said on one video, his most recent yearly expenses for travel, accommodation visas, airfares etc is about AUD $20k-$22k a year , his U tube subscriptions pay for this with a bit left over This is substantially more then I thought, as I assumed for most it was beer money at best. Maybe the couple in the OP do OF content as well 🙂 As with all these things, the worst part is glossing over the visas needed but good luck to them 🙂

Thai Govt Cracks Down on Nominee Practices in Tourism Sector
The implication is money laundering is why the business exists i.e they're laundering money via their ostensible "legit" Thai business and that's unfair competition

Trump Dishes Out 36% Tariffs in Shock Move Against Thailand
Cipploa and John Stuart Mill help explain why, see Rule #3 and Rule #4 explains why you struggle to understand These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity: 1. Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation. 2. The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person. 3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses. 4. Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake. 5. A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person. ----- "I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative. . - John Stuart Mill

Can foreigners really own condos or can they still lose access like with land lease?
but that's VERY simplistic way to look at it because you conveniently left our opportunity and sovereign risk, amongst other risks , not to say that's not a consideration If 10 years ago you had invested in say Nvidia and Amazon shares with your capital and then paid rent to live in Thailand, you'd be far, far ahead now ie opportunity cost Governments change and they decide to change the laws and you aren't allowed back in as they are not permanent resident ie sovereign risk eg some people who purchased property in the US and have legal status but can't get it renewed will be nervous, or even because they have an unpaid parking ticket 10 years ago. If you can' get your retirement visa renewed because they changed the base requirement to 8 Million Baht in the bank , then what ? Purchasing property to live in is really about a lifestyle choice, somewhere to hang your hat and call home but if you're not a citizen, you are their as a guest who can be kicked out. If you're happy with that, go ahead. I'd never look at it as an investment though. As to Australians, they are property weird, because to them purchasing property is mostly a no brainier if you can afford it, there's no real analysis or due diligence necessary (flood plains and coastal erosion aside) as its heavily subsidised by the government in terms of tax relief and supply is severely restricted by government, so prices just go up and even insurance is often subsidised by government eg northern Australia in uninsurable so government stepped in as the underwriter (similar to much of the US with the NFIP ). Aussies then assume the same everywhere ie a business plan is 1.Buy property 2. ???? 3. Profit !

KBank blocked WISE
Fraud and other criminal undertakings normally. I can't speak for K Bank and Thailand but it happens semi-often in Australia and it also happens there are false positives, under the law they are not allowed to tell you why, your accounts are just closed if they meet particular criteria (they aren't allowed to tell you what that criteria is). It's why many people move to crypto but to get cash, you still need an exchange and of course most crypto has a block chain and can be traced (assuming you haven't washed it or aren't using an anonymous token like Monero). It could be they were lax and are now tightening down, could be a false positive, could be new legislation. We plebs will never know.

Is moving to Cambodia really the end of the line?
Having lived there in 2010/2011 and not drinking, smoking or doing drugs, i enjoyed it thoroughly and have fond memories to this day. I did see a lot of westerners getting smashed and riding around drunk on their scooters and several dieing and I'd suggest a more likely outcome based on my observation. I have lived in Thailand, The Philippines and Cambodia. I prefer The Philippines. I am back in Australia because I prefer the air here and have a house here I own. I was recently again in The Philippines and was looking at a condo in Makati, walking about Makati and it seems like many big cities in the world if that's your thing ? I "retired" at age 35. I won't be entitled to the Australian pension at 67 because I have too many assets, the public pension in Australia is means tested. Not all of us are on the bones of our arse. I did spend some time in Laos last year and liked that as well.

Former Russian Beauty Queen Faces Harsh Conditions in Thai Immigration Detention
Wasn't there a thread from some guy on here who had overstayed for a decade (or more) and wanted to know what might happen when he went to leave ? A pity the thread was locked. i'd have loved to have know if it went well for him, could have show him this article 🙂 I'm curious as to how she was let back into the country if she was booted out once before ? As to the quips that this is only an article because she's a pretty girl, maybe they are unaware of how the world works ? I also have zero idea why she's not been bailed by one of her dozen boyfriends. Whole story is bemusing really 🙂

British husband of the Thai ‘Lady of the Hills’ bailed - video
Of course he is, until the court says otherwise. It's the same tragedy when people assume guilt over rape or child porn or murder whatever, for now the dude IS innocent. Presumption of innocence should be a fundamental right 😞 This is what happens when the internet piles on with guilty until innocent https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cumbria-64943465 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8718345/Sister-boy-17-killed-falsely-accused-rape-shares-ordeal.html https://metro.co.uk/2018/03/19/man-took-life-fake-rape-claim-left-living-hell-7397912/

coming to thailand in february for 6 months
What visa are you getting for three months ? You'll need to attend immigration as you only get 30 days on arrival, then a 29 day extension waiver can be applied for, then there is more plasterwork needed after that for further extensions. Supposed to be able to do it online but.... 🙂 it does't work for me https://e-services.immigration.gov.ph/ As to your other question about a one way ticket, I have been asked once in many trips to Thailand, I lied and said I was catching the bus to Cambodia, that seemed to satisfy the counter staff, presumably because I had an answer ? I have never been asked at immigration, only by airline counter staff upon departure from Australia. Of course that wont work for The Philippines and it does say on the front page of the immigration web site https://evisa.gov.ph/ though the last two times I have only had one way tickets You're also supposed to register with their visitor app, last time airport staff were asking arrivals if they had and pulling people aside to go do it before they get to immigration if they hadn't. I had but there was no checking at immigration. That was last year though. https://etravel.gov.ph/

Expats How Do You Deal With The Toxic Air Pollution in Thailand?
Any better ? Back in 2010 when I lived in Sihanoukville, every pile of stuff from leaves to dirty nappies was burnt on the side of the road. At least a sea breeze helped but no sea breeze in SR.
