Encroachment of protected lands has been going on for decades. Initially we get show and promises to stop, but then it goes back to what it is. We are still waiting for Phuket to enforce existing marine rules on jetskis and to bring in the promised safety checks on paragliders at beach. Remember when they promised to clean up airport transportation gangsters?
I’d settle for decent roads and the ability to drive down them without being able to count the number of badly set manhole/drain covers

Its been a long time since I was in Phuket, but as I remember, many of the hotel staff were not local people they were from up country. It would be interesting to see how they cope, if there should be as many visitors as is hoped for.
Spot on.
and will be the same for all the other branches within the ‘hospitality’ industry

Show him the people lining up for food hand outs, hundereds if not thousands of abondoned shops, hotels falling apart, amusement districts like ghost towns and the number of people unemployed. That's reality.
I don’t think he’ll get to see the ‘people lining up for food hand outs’ being given by the good citizens/residents of the island but his assistants may inadvertently line up a photo shoot of the local authorities selling off cheap food parcels to those in need.

Despite all the hoops necessary to enter the country, new cases of infected returnees/visitors to LoS continue to be reported. I wonder what the number of new infections will be when the 1000’s of tourists that the TAT have promised get here in July?

That’s Baht 4,800 most of the locals around here would have to pay if they got caught simply nipping round to the nearest 7-11 on their old bikes. (they have to ride further now that 7-11’s are getting scarcer due to closures)

Surely, even if high risk, as foreigners can generally lay low a lot easier than Thais, it might be worth being extremely careful for a few moths and then getting the good stuff.
For some laying low might be difficult. My wife and 2 daughters have all had the jabs. I understand that even those that have been fully vaccinated can still transmit the virus. So without even venturing outside the house there’s still the possibility of contracting the darned Covid.
oh well.

Does this mean we will no longer see vehicles being driven around with their licence plate numbers painted out?

The stupidly of some Thai drivers knows no bounds. They shouldn't be in charge of a supermarket trolley ( cart) let alone a vehicle. The Police just think its normal.

Didn’t Phuket get a bunch of cash last year from the govt for “employing locals for miscellaneous minor infrastructure works”?

According to my calculations, in less than two weeks there will be more cases of infection in Phuket.
I hope that’s nothing to do with the recent visitors from Bangkok????

“Charges progress against Phuket mass party venue operators”
Let’s hope the system ‘progresses’ faster than the case against ‘Ace’ condo developers or even the completion of the diabolical screw-up of Patong Beach Road.

Your previous note on the state of Patong implies a very serious question post-covid. Who, in your opinion, is going to provide the cash investments to revive the town?
