  1. My Filipina partner and I would like to get married in Thailand this year. We live in Chiang Mai for a portion of each year and would like to do it here.

This is not related to immigration or for visa purposes, but I wasn't sure where (which forum) to ask.

Has anyone done the same and could advise me on the step by step legal process? Who should we advise/consult with to get started?

  2. Hey all,

I bought my 125cc Honda Wave in 2019 and the stock tires look like they could use a change. I have almost 14,000km on them. I ride mostly on paved roads and occasionally do some light dirt roads while exploring.

    My questions are:

    1. What tires would you recommend for my upcoming change?
    2. Can dealers order tires for me or do I need to take in my own?
    3. Approximate prices on any tire suggestions offered would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

You could use the tape used for door Gaps.

Sticky on one side and spongey on the other - about 1.5mm thick.

Can be found in shops like HomePro.

Thanks, Richard. Not a bad idea. Might give that a try.

I'm gonna do my mates Wave's front end fairing body rattle noise it is a annoying.

What you have to do is have rubber compression washers with new fixings, it's a fiddley job but can be sorted with some expertise.

Sounds like you've done this kind of thing before. It's annoying for sure. Do you have a photo of exactly what I'd need to look for and where I could pick it up?

  4. Hey all,

I've got a Honda Wave with about 10k km on it and some of the front panels have finally started rattling - notably, the front panel near the headlight (see attached photo).

Not a big deal but it does put a bit of a damper on otherwise quiet weekend rides in the mountains.

My mechanic tried using a double sided adhesive without success. I tried ghetto taping it up without success. Looking for a solution other than earplugs.

Removing the panel completely causes a different plastic panel near the throttle to rattle so that's not a good solution either.

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Home Pro sell a strong deodorising disinfectant, white plastic container with a pink label.  I pour this stuff neat into all the drains and sinks in the house, leave for an hour then follow that with boiling hot water. I do this once a week .  Seems to do the trick, or at least help, as I have no creepies or flying stuff in the house.

Thanks. Is it specifically designed for pests or more just of a disinfectant?

I know i am stating the obvious (sorry),

but i usually stick something over the top of the drain cover whilst it is nit needed.

Yes, I had thought of this too but would rather find a way to eliminate them if possible.

I researched these a bit. What are they called in English, i.e. what should I search for on Lazada?

They breed in standing water. I think if you just flood the drains everyday for a few days they should be gone.

Thanks. What's the best way to flood the drain?

  6. Hey all,

I seem to find a dozen new mosquitoes a day in my bathroom lately, along with the occasional drain fly. They've been a nuisance and I'd like to get rid of them. I'm not 100% sure the mosquitoes are coming from my drain, but I keep the house tightly sealed and I only see them in the bathroom. This leads me to believe that they might be living/breeding in there.

For context, I was out of the country for about a year and just recently got back about a month ago. My guess is that mosquitoes may have taken up residence inside the shower drain while I was away.

Any experience with getting rid of them? I tried dumping vinegar down the drain and some bleach as well. Neither has proved successful thus far.

I had a solar hot water system installed on the roof 14 years ago made in Australia , a little costly them, but it has more them paid for it self over those years. Only had to replace one value during that time. Eclectic reduce by more the 1,000 baht per month. Have hot water in all showers sinks in the house 4 bath rooms, and also for washer out side and out side sink too to wash those oil pans.

Sounds like a good long-term solution! Something to keep in mind for the future when I'm more permanently situated.

A top loader is not the most efficient way of washing linen, it doesn't have the lift, drop squeeze action of a front loader. A twin tub is even less efficient in as much as it requires more human interaction. The top loader however, is efficient in that it uses  gentler wash action for the type of washing used in S.E.A, wear once and wash. Also, the washing powder here is designed to be used in cold water and doesn't need to have a fabric conditioner added, although it can help to remove excess powder. The trick is not to over load the M/c be it 6, 8, or 10 Kg and not put too much powder into the receptacle. If you find that tight clothing makes you itch, you are using too much washing powder.

Yes, I find getting the balance right is important. I have a single tub top-loader (just replaced the twin tub top-loader).

What we did, works great. Guy at Home Pro was a bit confused why we wanted to wash clothes with hot water, but it works.

So you bought the hot water heater from HomePro and they installed it for you? How much did that cost?

You could light a charcoal fire under it, raise it up light a burner and when the flames have died down and there is only heat you will get a hot wash, you don’t even need the electrics just get a local give him a bottle of beer and get him to stir the clothes for 15 minutes job done. 555

Sorry but you did say creative solution and I have a vivid imagination.

Good luck hope you find an easy solution

LOL. So much for an easy solution ???? But it is creative! I'll give you that.

Fit a Shower Hot Water heater by the washing machine

I had thought of that - sounds somewhat expensive, though. Thoughts?

Does not have to be a shower style heater, just an inline tankless heater, and feed into a mixer tap so you can get the temperature you want!

Where would I find something like that?

Toss some black irrgation tubing inline before the washer. It should only take an hour to heat a load of water when the sun is shining. I used this for a hot shower when living off grid. If you want to get fancy you can add some valves to isolate hot and cold.

    That's an interesting idea. Thanks!

The answer is probably, get a side loader instead, I use and don't need hot water, top loaders are poor in my experience, they lack gravity impact

Not in the market for a new washer at the moment. Bought the one I have only a month ago!

  9. Hey all,

I'd like to start using hot water to wash my clothing. We have a standard cold-water washing machine at the back of our house. Does anyone have any creative solutions for being able to efficiently and affordably add hot water to the washing machine? I could use a 2 gallon water boiler or a floating immersion water heater but wanted to see if anyone had any other creative solutions in mind. Thanks!

You mean the support or the showerhead

    Yes, thanks for the clarification.

Unless this is a special pulse type shower any after market unit should work - our first change is normally replacement of shower head with better quality head and flexible metal hose.

Getting parts of just about anything in Thailand is very much hit or miss and the market just does not support keeping supplies in stock and as we continue on the throw away price craze it is becoming even less so.

Okay, great. I hadn't considered aftermarket models. I'll take a look around. Thanks!

I bought the same model in a Tesco Lotus store in Pattaya just a few days back. Likely they will be available on a nationwide basis but no idea if a shower handle can be bought separately at TL.

Would expect that attachments of any other make could be affixed as they seem to be of a standard size and likely mostly interchangeable.

Thank you. Sounds like an aftermarket model is going to be my best bet. I appreciate it!

  11. Hey all,

I need a new shower handle for my Electrolux water heater. It looks like the heater itself (which comes with a single handle) is abundantly available online but I can't seem to find any handle-only products. Anyone know where I could pick one of these up in Chiang Mai?

Here's a link to the product (heater + handle) on HomePro's website.

For dirt ask at local plant nurseries, they source it for their pots and bags and for landscape jobs.  Careful not to get road fill dirt.  May want to mix it with rice hull, peanut shell and/or sand to get better planting material.

They also sell pre mixed in bags.

    Thanks for your help!
