    Not who - What

Tessaban is the local municipal government office.

Your address will be something like -

    12 Moo 3 T. __________  A. _________________  Province

T = name of Tessaban  A = name of Amphur

Hmm. My address follows this format (not my actual address):

23/97 Moo 9, Hang Dong Subdistrict, Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai Province. So the Tessaban is Hang Dong Subdistrict?

Is this a rental property? If so, the landlord or agent should know. If it's owned, I can't understand owning something and not knowing how one of the primary utilities is serviced.

Rental property. Trying not to get the homeowners involved if possible but may have to go that route.

In that case you need to contact the village head man, who will have someone responsible for the village water supply and admin thereof.
If you don't have the ability to contact him/her, maybe you should ask for assistance from someone that lives in your specific village, i.e. what moo number and tambon name within amphur Hang Dong.

    Thanks for your help.

Neighbors are wonderful for all kinds of help.  Most of them are happy to assist.  So many farang problems would be easily resolved it they just joined their neighborhood.

Yes, we know the neighbors and have their phone number, but it's written on a piece of paper in our house. When we left Thailand, we only expected to be gone for two weeks and assumed we wouldn't need it.

Has it occurred to you that the water could have been shut off in the whole village for repairs or general maintenance?

Yes, it's possible though would be coincidental. That being said, we haven't been there in almost a year and haven't paid a bill since we left (though we haven't used any water). Having the water shut off seems more likely.

I'd really just like to figure out who provides our water and see if there's a bill I can pay remotely.

As it is a development, there is usually an office for admin. enquiries. There is usually an annual admin fee for the services rendered.

Just realized I had my terms confused. We live in a village in Hang Dong, not a moo baan.

    Moo bahn development. Likely provider?

French for "find the woman". More often used as a cliche in detective fiction.

The suggestion to ask a neighbor is sensible.

If my friend was going to be there again before the end of the month, that would be the easy solution. He was just there today, though, and won't be going back before I arrive in three weeks.

Cherchez la femme. A bit awkward if you or your friend don't know who she is, or who she works for.

Did your friend think to check at the water meter to see if it has been locked? It may simply have been turned off at the mains connection.

He didn't check the meter, unfortunately. Cherchez la femme?

    13 minutes ago, bwpage3 said:

Why not have your friend ask a neighbor who supplies the water?

    Seems pretty simple.

He lives 30 minutes away from our house and is pretty busy. He only makes one visit a month.

    10 minutes ago, NotEinstein said:

Usually, if it is a payment issue, they remove the meter until the debt is cleared.

Know a good way to pay the bill remotely? Add mentioned, we don't even know who supplies the water. Bills were paid so casually in the past.

  8. Hey all,

I have been out of the country (stuck in Vietnam) since March but have kept my house in Hang Dong. A friend stops by the house each month to pick up our electric bill and maintain the property. He has not seen a water bill - typically, a woman just comes by the house and knocks on the gate every couple of months and asks us to pay the bill.

Today, when he went to the house, he noticed that the outdoor hose was no longer working. The water has apparently been turned off, but no notice was left. I will hopefully be back in Chiang Mai by the end of this month (have a flight booked for the 12th) but would like to have it turned back on before I arrive.

Does anyone know what I can do to pay our bill and have it turned back on? I'm not even sure who provides our water - I assume it's the Provincial Waterworks Authority but have never been able to validate that. Thanks for your help.

When calling the PEA 1129 phone number in country you're directed to the Call Center IVR (Interactive Voice Response) where you can press 9 for ENGLISH

I don't know if calling the main number for the Bangkok Head Office provides the same provisions

    https://www.pea.co.th/en/Contact

    Provincial Electricity Authority Head Office
200 Ngamwongwan Road, Ladyao, Jatujak Bangkok 10900
    Tel : 02-589-0100 to 1    (+66 25-980100)
    Call center : 1129

ALSO, there are at least 5 PEA payment offices surrounding Chiang Mai, and if you've found English speakers there before then suggest calling your local office directly. At least 2 of them have listed phone numbers:

    https://peaportal.pea.co.th/peaoffice/index_en.html?lang=en

Provincial Electricity Authority Chiang Mai Province
    Address    :    208/1 Chaingmai-Lampoon Road Watgate Maung Chaingmai 50000
    Office phone    :    053-260260 / 053-245406

Address    :    208 Chiang Mai-Lamphun Rd, Wat Ket, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50000

    Office phone    :    053 246291

Thanks so much for your help! I appreciate it. Didn't have any luck with local reps and unfortunately can't call the hotline since I'm outside of the country.

Try using the following link to PEA Live Chat facility which I've found works really well.  Just fill in the form as shown and select  final category in the Thai drop-down field. Type in the first question "Do you speak English"  they normally reply wait a minute and go and find someone who does and then you're away.  They ask you for your CA Ref which is on your bill.

    PEA Live Chat Link

    Good luck

Thanks! I tried this out just now and it worked great! Problem solved.

  10. Hey everyone,

I'm having an issue with my PEA bill and need an English-speaking customer service representative on the phone. I'm out of town so have to go about it that way. Typically, I'd just head into the local office.

Does anyone know if they have English speaking customer support? I would call myself now and give it a shot but their office is closed for the evening. I'll ring them on Monday morning.

    Thanks for your help!

Seems I got the standard (online) exchange rate and there were no extra costs.

I use Bangkok Bank and had to go to PEA and Nam Papa (water) to get a form, back to the bank and let it stamp, then back to PEA and Nam Papa. Took two or three months before it worked, but it works fine now. Same with 3BB (internet). Only True (telephone) does not work. I talked to them many times, but gave up in the end and pay online monthly.

That sounds like a real hassle! Glad to see easier options popping up.

Whoo David, probably would have been nice to mention this earlier like in the OP because as you can many replys assume you have a Thai bank account like most people here.

Enjoy the hard way.  Good luck.

For those not in the know, Counter Service Pay can be used to pay PEA bills from abroad with international credit cards. They have a functional, fully translatable website and app. This would be my recommendation moving forward for anyone else in the same predicament - or just anyone that wants to be able to pay their PEA bill online easily.

No scanning or bar codes requires. All you need is your account number.

I am not sure what you mean with "AIS plan".  But the standard AIS prepaid cards work abroad without problems. Postpaid AIS only work with a roaming plan.  True prepaid simcards only work abroad after enabling roaming (must be done in Thailand by sending a SMS code).

If you are already abroad you can try to contact AIS and see if they can enable roaming.

I once searched for things like voip and virtual numbers. The only things I could find were international providers and it was very expensive. But I cannot google in Thai.

Thanks. That's the answer I needed. I chatted with AIS just now and they enabled roaming. I appreciate your insight!

  14. Hey all,

I'm currently out of the country and need to receive some SMS confirmations from Thai businesses. When in Thailand, I have an AIS plan but can't use that while abroad. Has anyone had success in using a virtual phone number for Thailand and received texts successfully?

Recommendations for a reputable service would be a bonus. Thanks for your help.

You can pay via lazada digital goods category.

And they have promotion with ฿50 coupon if you use this code when you checkout LZDUTL50

    ---

Also can pay via the PEA app (which may require OTP) or via your Thai bank.   You can also have someone else pay for you.  They just need the barcode, which can be from the printed receipt, or if you have PEA app, the app can re-generate the barcode.

And someone else can add your meter to their acct temporarily to pay it.  You can send PM

Thanks for the heads-up. Just tried this and unfortunately Lazada won't accept my payment since the billing address of my credit card doesn't match the local, Thailand shipping address. It looks like you can't add an international billing address. Bummer.

You can pay by credit card using easybills at https://www.easybills.in.th/

    Fee is 8 baht.

Just tried this out and got excited when it brought up our current bill (using only the CA/REf No. 1) but after submitting my credit card information, I got a notice that said:

"Sorry, this ticket number is not yet available for use at easyBills."

Could it be that I'm just trying to pay the bill too early? Our bill is usually dropped off in our mailbox between the 19th and 21st of each month.

Using the Kasikorn Bank app on Android, I pay online and have PEA stored as a favourite transaction.  You only need the "CA/Ref No. 1" stored for the transaction.  From then on you don't actually need the bill as it tells you how much the bill is before you click on 'Confirm' to make the payment.  My internet gets paid the same way.  No more trips to 7/11 for me now.

Electricity was free last month and this month cost only ฿18.40 thanks to the Government discount.

Thanks. I assume you have a Kasikorn bank account in order to use the app?

The PEA has a app that can be used but I think you need your bill for it to read the barcode on it.

We pay ours using the True Money app that my wife has set up.

Info is here on their website. https://www.pea.co.th/en/Payment-Channels

Thanks. Looking into these solutions now. One problem is that I'm not in Thailand at the moment and don't have access to texts sent to my Thai phone number for confirmation. I assume many (or all) of these solutions require you to confirm your account via text one way or another to get setup.

  20. Hey all,

Is anyone paying their monthly electric (PEA) bills online? We're able to pay our rent digitally with Transferwise and our internet bill each month online and it would be great if we could do this as well with our monthly electric. Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming he is still there (I left C Mai in 2013 after I got laryngeal cancer from breathing the same air pollution that is hurting you now, but then I breathed it for 25 years), I would strongly recommend Dr Tawatchai at Loi Kroh Road clinic. Speaks English near fluently and can treat just about anything. He is a govt doctor (head of a hospital), but runs his private clinic after 1700 hours daily. He was still there last year. Get there early - as he is very popular and very cheap ! After successfully diagnosing me with skin cancer, he removed it in his 'spare time' on a Sunday, surgically. (Sidelight) I once suggested that I put up the money for him to open a clinic in Australia and he just laughed and said "I can't go there - I have too many patients here already" ! He should get a Nobel Prize. I have seen him treat hill-tribe aids patients for free. He is my 'poster-boy' for the Hipocratic Oath. (Money don't come into it ...) Cheers mate !

Wow, what a guy. Thanks so much for your recommendation!

  22. Hey all,

The burning season is upon us and I'm having some shortness of breath and burning in my lungs. Seems like I'm being affected by the pollution. I've been here for several months since it started. Where do people go for lung-related concerns? I know hospitals are full of people with respiratory complaints during the burning season. Where do they all go?

Note that I don't speak Thai. As a bonus, does anyone have a sense of what a check-up for something like this might cost and if I can just pop in to wherever is recommended?

    Thanks,

    Dave
