Always a laugh when you hear about different Immigration offices having their own sets of rules and procedures, different from every other office.

But if you do a border run on Day 179, "leaving" Thailand and then re-entering an hour (or less) later - does that count as not being "tax resident" ?

It would look a little off if you "left" the country on 1 Feb and "entered" the country on 1 Feb and then claimed you are not "tax resident" because you were only in the country for 179 days.

(Maybe why Canada uses 183 days to determine if someone is "deemed resident for tax purposes" ?)

It is not 180 consecutive. It is a yearly total.

  2. I don't  mind the fees so much, it is the customs PO can be very far away.

I recently ordered some pharmaceuticals from the UK and delivered from India. There was no fee listed with the notice. I made the one and half hour trip only to find that it was a holiday. I contacted the seller and they imediately reshiped. That one was received with no issues.

  3. Wise's biggest problems are transparency and consistency.

I have been using Wise for 6 years in Thailand and the Philippines and there is definitely a difference.

I use Remitly for my Cambodian transfers.  There is no exchange rate for me (USD to USD) and a fixed fee. There are two sending prices, economy ( from your home bank account at 4 to 5 days) or express (from a debit/credit card at the same day). The difference is about $4. I am notified of every step. For any issue at any time of the day. I can even deposit into my Cambodian bank's debit card and directly into my account, something I have never heard of before.  I can get very fast chat service where everything can be explained should there be any questions. No mysteries.
