That and then being marched into the courtroom in file and seeing the big chair is a rather sobering thought. I can smile at it now but sh*t myself at the time!

If you’re a Thai, you get a ticket and I think 30 days to pay. If you’re a farang they impound the bike at roadside until you can show that the ticket has been paid and you’re allowed on your way. Generally in Pattaya they’ll fine you 500B for each offence although the official rate is lower. It’s not worth arguing though unless you want to waste a few hours of your time in the station.

Nope, when in town I often frequent one of the bars right by that checkpoint late afternoon as it’s good entertainment value watching the BIB go about their business. Was there only a few days ago and seen them stop a female local who was conservatively dressed and even wearing a helmet. Reminds me of the time that after a heavy session in a beer garden in Bangkok after missing my connection to Samui, I took a wrong turn after going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and locked myself out of my room. Had to go down 4 floors starkers and then wave my hand out of the lift door in an attempt to grab security/reception's attention without drawing too much attention from anyone else. Going back up in the lift with the security guard with me standing there with with my just hands covering myself and this bloody lift music in the background was surreal and like something you only see in a movie. The reception staff found it highly amusing when I checked out the following morning.

Agreed. H&S law in the UK requires the top rail of any scaffold to be a minimum of 950mm height. Comparing the height of those rails to the people in the photograph I would say that they were around that height at least.
