yeah all the admins & moderators without work permits are working illegally even if its only as volunteers! :cheesy:

hell if we're being pedantic i'm supporting TV's ad business just by writing this comment lol

^ my point. And by this logic, answering anyone online such as visas info if they have a question is also work.  It’s considered volunteering and teaching ????

wouldn’t applying for a visa extension be work as well? Since your stealing a thai agent job lol.

    And cooking too.

Could go on. That’s how ridiculous this seems.

It would seem anything and everything in Thailand requires a work permit with exception of home rental.  That is the only sacred cow that requires nothing, probably because the elite would lose money if foreign landlords were to need a work permit.  To exhibit at a trade show, a wp was needed.  Not sure if that is still being enforced.  Thailand has the pettiest, most nonsensical labor laws in Asia.  You have far less hindrances and hassles in China.

Makes me wonder if selling a Second hand phone on Facebook market requires a work permit lol. I mean are we supposed to throw 1 year old iPhones to trash? ????????????

9 months in Thailand on tourist visas,  a month back home... You would definitely be taking a risk of being denied entry if you come back through the bkk airports.

Make sure you obtain a tourist visa back home, and not attempt to enter visa exempt.

Doesn’t help much. 3 years ago I was questioned af while coming back with a tourist visa, after 5 months in Thailand. In his case I’d recommend flying to a different country first (That requires no visa such as Kuala Lumpur). so that If they refuse him he doesn’t have to fly all the way back to his country and then try by land.

Funny, you get reports that the low end of Sukhumvit are selling drugs, and other reports saying in the Asoke area they are random urine testing Farangs, says it all really

There’s drugs in both sides lol. a lot of Thai  people arround thonglor take them too. But yeah police always stops cars arround phrongpong Main road and ekkamai in the soi before thonglor one for some reason.

NO lack of condos for 6 month rentals. Problem ..the people want to pay for 5 or 6 month the same low rate like yearly rental, and not accept higher price, but owner will have rooms empty for rest of year.

so,i do not rent as well , bcs for exmaple yearly price is 18.000 /100qm  so if rent winter i want minimum 28.000 people no pay..resolution  due to lack of longterm people to rent ( bcs they all gone..........) the short term rental ..less use of fittings and more flexible, not more money but more convinient , even they call it now illegal

Explains how I’m paying 25% under market price for rent at my condo. 18k for 100 sqm. Where?

Get a double big Mac then ????

Here in Phuket burgers are all +25%

Ice cream cone from 10 to 15 (+50%)

    chocolate cone from 15 to 25 (+66%)

In December last year the double big Mac menu was on offer at 185 now 265 so basically almost a +50%

Yeah. I still remember that. Guess I’m back to ordering Burger King and Dairy Queen.

And are you comfortable to stay with a woman who pays your expenses and even gives you cash? Do you have just a little self respect?

Uh. When I was single here in Thailand met a few women who told me they used to pay for their boyfriends (they didn’t seem too happy about it now that they were single). Not common but happens. But honestly it’s as you said, you should at least avoid letting her pay for you and try to pay for her as often as you can if she’s spending on you. She’d appreciate it.

Oh, is that why I wait so long?

I think you only only think about emergency road accident.

    Hospital do many other problem.

    Better to have insurance IMO.

Don’t ask me. In Bangkok usually I go to the ones next to icon Siam or clinic in srinakaharinwirot university. Never waited over 15 min.

Oh and I have insurance for accidents & death (free at that). Just not general health. Then again most insurances don’t even cover that.

  9. 1 hour ago, Yinn said:

    Hmmmm. Maybe.

But immigration not the owner of insurance company. Immigration will not win from that. The insurance company be rich, not immigration that rule.

(i believe you say is corrupt, same land office, school, police, army, agriculture department, orbortor etc etc etc)

    and

is is better you to have insurance in Thailand. IF have a good company/fair.

Better for the foreigner if problem and better for the hospital because SOME people not want to pay. This people make the problem.

If everyone pay, will be no problem.

Maybe Yinn start a fair Insurance Company for foreigner.

Most foreigner will like private hospital. Cleaner with better service. Government hospital must wait, and wait, and wait. So slowly.

The sick foreigner will be angry sure. Will be problem, must wait the queue.

But it expansive. Last week my friend can go Wichara government hospital in Phuket. Will be only 130 baht.

At private hospital, same thing will be 6,000 baht.

    Private is expansive. But good.

My idea= If foreigner not pay, escape then YOUR government should pay the hospital. YOUR government chase the money.

    Good idea?

From experience most government hospitals are fast. They seem to attend forgeiners first and most forgeiners don’t even know where they’re located. Always avoid private hospitals if you don’t have insurance. Even if you have a flu they ask you to stay the night and sell medicine at overpriced values. I would only use private for procedures like surgeries. ????

  10. Can’t complain either. Living at center of sukhumvit is fun when you can afford anything you want. Lots of fun things to do plus I get to travel around Asia often as flights so cheap here. Bangkok may have gotten 25% more expensive than when I came here but.. It’s still epic value compared to cities like Paris, hongkong and so on. Plus it’s summer every day, feels like holidays and there’s so many islands and mountains nearby and party all the time. You only get bored if you choose to.

I’ve lived In south Thailand in a small city for a few months a few years ago but it’s a bit boring after awhile. Not many restaurant options. But it was fun to explore the provinces around it.

Too funny! This is Thailand, they don't need to prove things in the same way that a UK entity might have to follow legal guidelines and have several levels of appeal, things don't work that way here. But I do know after almost twenty years here that Immi. doesn't usually kick people out unless they have a reason. Sorry but that's the way it is. And I also know from multiple discussions with various expats on the subject of people being denied entry etc., most if not all who post their tales of woe and unfair biased cruelty on this forum, aren't telling the complete story.

Nah they almost kicked me when I had 5 months in Thailand 3 years ago, they only didn’t cuz i showed 20k and return flight within 3 months. Basically yeah anyone under tourist visa is at risk of being kicked after 6 months stay basically. Not written on book but obvious. That’s the complete story.

Almost all the economic indicators signal more bad news ahead. TAT's exaggerated claims should be totally disregarded.

If for some reason the baht falls in value there might be some hope but others would argue there is little chance of that in the near future. Even the Thai Central Bank chief says the rising baht is a worry.

The government's unimaginative and addiction to "Chim Shop Chai" stimulus campaigns will do little more than give temporary relief and nothing to fix decreasing manufacturing and farm exports. Rice exports is shaping up as a big worry as other country's rice export prices are going down while their productivity and quality rises. Thailand is losing their share of the global rice market fast.

Thailand has an export driven economy and if that is not performing well then the country as a whole will not do well.

A lot will depend on the global economy and if that goes into recession then Thailand will likely be dragged down with it.

When Somkid, one of the chiefs of Thailand's economic team, comes out publicly and says.....ssssh! "Don't mention the economy" and saying it could affect confidence then something bad is in the air for sure.

    https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/economy/deputy-thai-pm-dont-mention-the-economy

If there’s a recession that will happen. This year been saving money in a thai bank acc. Proved to be a good investiment (9%+ return agaisnt usd) but... with baht so strong and govrnemnt trying to reverse trend and all these signs of crisis I’ve started taking it out past two months and invest somewhere else. My own country went through a big crisis similar to Greece for almost 10y. News Sentiment feeling same as back then. Personally either way doesn’t affect me nowadays as I have no thai investiments but ye.

Also fears of a global Recession atm. Most usa stocks are overvalued if you notice and more people buying gold. I myself haven’t been investing in USA companies for the reason above personally. While their performance is good if they crash, it will be a hard one (feels bad for ppl without stop-loss orders). Anyway chances are nothing will happen until summer.  If anything the opposite for now due to 15th dec deal cming between us-China.

Not living in the UK and not paying into the 50% tax bracket is the greatest return the Elite Visa ever gave me (at the time I was not married and I'm still under 50).

Everyones needs are different, at the time it was the perfect solution - its saved me serious money on tax in another country. In use of its perks over the past 14 years its probably saved me money.

^. It paid my visa after a month for the same reason. I think that’s the major perk.

does a verbal agreement stand strong in a thai court of law ?

what is the proper notice in a verbal agreement ?

what will her losses be if she rents it in the next few days ?

I believe what she's doing is shameful and unethical given the circumstances. I would have acted very differently and in a honorable way if I was in her position. But this is the mentality of many (not all) thai people, if you can rip off the farang just go and do it.

Probably same landlord as me. She was a woman also (about 30), with multiple properties and stole my 38k deposit. Mind if I ask you in pm the landlord name?

There is so much to do in Bangkok.... its a great city to live in.

Could it be improved, absolutely... it could do with lots more, more parks, better public transport, better roads etc.

But for restaurants, getting around cheaply, activities for adults and kids, it's difficult to beat...  and those who complain about the pollution....  I just came back from the UAE which had worse pollution (AQI).

Everywhere has good and bad. Traffic is my major gripe in Bangkok, then I go else where and get stuck in traffic.

People hate Bangkok because they want to... they look for things to hate to make their undeveloped slice of dusty backwardness in someway seem better - they'll quote too many malls, too many condos, who buys all this designer stuff anyway? etc, who needs so many starbucks etc... they are partially right but that's the cost of not living in a backwater which has no decent hospitals or education facilities. Don't agree, the Hosptials and Schools in any other province of Thailand and many regional capitals cannot compete with Bumrungrad and Patana School...

Could start by improving driving laws. I’m not even 3 years here yet and already seen over 5 motorbike / car accidents in person. In two of them i know people died. Just a few days ago a motorbike fell while driving fast here on nut. Luckily I don’t think the owner died but rip the motorbike.
