  1. There seems to be three similar topics on the Phuket board for Phuket status/outlooks/wakes etc, so i will post this in each. Apologies if you read it elsewhere already....

There is allot of negativity on this thread picking on Phuket during this china flu bug season. Please keep in mind, EVERYWHERE in the world that still has a lockdown is suffering bigly. Not just Phuket.

ANYWHERE In the world that is tourism reliant has been hit especially  hard.

Things will bounce back to normal in Phuket and elsewhere faster than you would imagine once the lockdowns are lifted.

In addition, there is a fast-growing realization and consensus globally that the kungflu is really just a nasty flu season, and not worthy of any general lockdown. Many are calling the whole China flu hysteria a hoax, and just a power grab.

At most, this nasty flu is worthy of special precautions for the elderly 70+  and those with certain co-morbidities. Unfortunately and obviously, those specific folks need to be locked-down or only venture outside to the reopened world at their own risk, until an effective treatment or vaccine is found.

Indeed, Thailands perceived (current) success at keeping the (tested) virus levels low is actually a huge draw for even more tourists to come once the lockdowns end.

It sucks if your income has been severely impacted by the lockdowns, but those who can hang-on for a little while longer will see the light at the end of the tunnel. There will be new businesses opening where old ones went under.

Things will get back to a new normal, and hopefully that new normal will be even better than the old one.

Im curious no money in Thailand because of shutdowns. How are local based tourists spending extra money they don't have? Open borders will bring disposable cash to Phuket. Have trust in the tourists to do the right thing. No money, no honey....Hello! Very wise saying!

There are still plenty of thais and foreigners in thailand with money to spend and wanting a holiday.

For many, now is an excellent time to have a holiday in Thailand. Less crowds and cheaper hotel rates make it an ideal time to hop on a flight or jump in the car and explore amazing Thailand!

Why would anyone with half a brain open their hotel or bar when theres no tourists?

Some hotels were already open for more than a month, but many more are reopening July 1.

Lots of Thailand residents are traveling around and holidaying in-country.

Many Kamala bars/restaurants have reopened for the last couple of weeks. Locals have been out and about.

Probably a good time for 4 & 5 star hotels to bring back staff, re-stock, and restart to get the business ready for some international borders/flights reopening in August or Sept.

  6. Bars supposedly re-opening July 1st. Should bring some life back to Patong.

Most hotels re-opening July 1 also.

These re-openings will attract allot of Thailand based travelers back to phuket.

Plenty of trails in Kamala. As a matter of fact did an 11k, 3.5 hours hike there this morning, was hard today.

But I would also be interested in t awwrails closer to rawai and/or kata.

Are there maps of the trails in Kamala?

    Fishing, or catching?

A lot of my buddies fished mostly to get away from the wives for a few hours and drink some cold ones.  Catching something wasn't high on their priority list.

I guess they are probably catching something, cause they are there Just about everyday of the year.

BTW, they are all thai or Myanmar men.

  9. Lots of people using Kamala beach yesterday.

dog walkers, runners, walkers, fishing etc.

    no cops in sight.

Seems like Kamala beach has reopened now. Any other beaches open as well?

    .

  10. Find a building you love at the perfect location and then start Informally lowballing multiple offers at various units. Offer max of 50% of the asking rental price.

Remember to tell the landlord that the renter is a Thai Doctor and he is willing to sign a 2 year or 3 year lease.

eventually one of them will bite and you may get a bargain.

  11. 5 million baht investment visa coming back again this year?

The big problem in BKK is that the developers have been mistakenly  pricing new projects for the narrow foreign buyers market, and not for the main local mass-market. There are not nearly enough expats to support that business model.

Use 3rd world Myanmar peasant labor to build product in the 2nd world, and then expect 1st world prices for the finished questionable-quality product?!

As such, there there is a huge oversupply and an under-served local market.

    BKK rationalization coming soon.

  12. Flew into Phuket a couple of days ago from Zurich.

The flight was full, all Europeans. Nobody wearing masks.

Phuket airport immigration was also completely packed with western tourists. Nobody wearing masks except for airport staff.

Kamala seems as busy as normal for this time of year. Far less Chinese, but more Russians and Europeans and other westerners. Nobody wearing masks.
