Don't know many Thais, just ex and her family.  Time is money, government hospitals crowded, just a cold, will get better are some excuses I heard in the past.

Mother used to visit local clinics and witch doctors (i called them) for cheap magical pills and serums that never helped much (likely just vitamins)  Maybe a special massage, head, neck, back etc...

Local pharmacies with old family trusted owners suggesting their wares as cures also acceptable many times.  Herbs to make into tea, etc...  They do love tea.

I used to get special massages till they closed the shops ????

If someone would like to develop a habit that would irritate others, reduce the longevity of others, let alone reducing their own life be some 10 years or so, I would hope that yes, someone would come and outlaw such a habit or rights...

Caffeine, fat, sugar, alcohol and some other things including too much sleep can be bad for your health do you want a govt or anyone outlawing these? I'm a non smoker

    • But surely, that is what is hapening already, so how much good will it do? The only good it will do is keep the money where it always has been in Thailand. None of this is helping the lady selling fried chicken at the roadside, or the souvenir seller who scrapes together a profit each day.

The idea that all businesses should close for 2 weeks (or more), which I totally understand in the current situation, is all fine and dandy if you have 10 million baht in your bank account - let's all have a jolly holiday, eh? But the everyday people (yet again) are the ones that will be financially destroyed by this, not the people/insitutions that can afford to be investing in government bonds. Where is the help for the everyday employee now unemployed, or the small business owner, who now has 0 baht income? Oh, there's nothing left for them.... we spent it all on protecting our bonds.

Or buying unnecessary submarines and aircraft carriers ????

Hi Dinsdale, I wholly agree with you. I also constantly wear a mask when out my condo. The sarcastic comment was because of the differing advice to wear or not to wear one and the pics of the minister not wearing a mask, half wearing a mask or wearing a mask ????

I also believe it is respectful to the Thais to wear one.

If you can find one 3 different stores this morning no one had masks or hand sanitizer

The problem with this move is that a lot of people will be out of work and if they dont have a job, or at least for a while, they will travel home to all parts of Thailand thus aiding the spread.  And from what I have seen around here they wont hesitate to have reunion meals and parties with old friends and families in the village.  I'm in a small village in Isaan and witness the effects of this every year with just the common coughs and colds that there is a sudden increase straight after New Year and Songkran after everyone has come home for the holidays.

Passed 2 large parties this morning lots of people

I was just at Tesco Lotus. There is a lot of people buying stuff. A variety of items but mostly water. Not sure why water is such a hot commodity. There was also a very long line at the pharmacy. I am not sure what they all were getting. The check out lines were fully stationed so the actual checkout time was fast. Probably faster than normal.

I made a quick stop at Dairy Queen to get my last Blizzard for the next few weeks.

I was at makro this morning parking lot was full inside it seemed like most people were buying meat that area was packed the rest of the store was OK plenty of water long lines at checkout

Here we see the big difference between developing countries like Thaiand and developed countries.

Many Western countries are breaking their budgets to compensate people who are laid off work, whether permanent or temporary, as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. Here most of those who will be sent home will receive not a single baht from the Government, whose generosity so far has extended to give a 3% discount on electricity and water bills. It's surely time to dig into the reserves and help Thai citizens.

And the situation has now been exacerbated with the closure of shopping malls and markets in Bangkok. How are market traders going to make any sort of living and will stores continue to pay their stay-at-home staff? Come on Prayut, you need to help them....and that doesn't mean giving them a 1,000 baht shopping voucher!

You think he's going to give up his submarine money ????

Well that's how the all behave back home. They let their children <deleted> and pee in the street. They even have special clothes made to enable kids to do this with ease. Google it and enlighten yourself.

I've seen the same thing here I was in a side walk restaurant little boy walks out necked starts peeing beside a table in Bangkok little girl cops a squat over a drain in the street so China ain't the only place

The problem is that the line makes no difference. You get sick. You walk into the hospital and show them your insurance card and they say, "full up."  Now, what are you going to do? I can just the response of Thai news channels, "Farang with Insurance Demands Hospital Kick Out Thai Patients to Make Room for Him."

My comment was more of a joke but look at it this way your in line payute or one of these other high ranked baffoons comes in says he has Covid19 you don't think they won't kick you out to make room for them
