Shame on you Thailand and your money grubbing ways.

Thailand now lost from the west, and firmly leaning towards China. The American government now recognizes this.

For 8 years there has been no proper democratically elected government here.

Thailand is a dictatorship, masquerading as a democracy.

The more and more Thailand comes under China's sphere in influence in the future, the more western investment will withdraw from Thailand.

Whether that's a good or bad thing is a matter of serious debate here, though not among Isaan girls themselves.

Ahhh, yes, once they have a taste of the bright lights of Pattaya, and the various capital cities in farangland, they still aspire to return to the rice fields of Issan.  ????

One thing after another.....personally I doubt if this will ever be viable...sorry.

As I have said, it's starting to sound like someone's little project to be able to stay in Thailand, at the company's expense.

It's already burned through a lot of money.

At what stage does that someone start to look over their shoulder?

The ferry experienced a major failure of 2 of its 3 main auxiliary engines and it was discovered that the bed plates had cracked and put the engines offline and out of sync. We then had to make the painful and expensive decision to remove the engines and change the bedplates in the interest of safety.  As these are very large engines and very heavy it takes time to source/ship and install the bed plates. We are well aware of this being the worst possible timing, especially as its peak season, but there was no other option.  Based on the current situation we expect/hope to renew the schedule end December/early January and finally get into a fixed sailing routine. In my 50+ years in the shipping industry I have never seen two engines go at the same time before. We'll be updating later in December once we know precise timing.

How long has the company owned this ship?

If recently purchased, was it given a full pre sale inspection?

If it's been owned for a while, why not regular inspections, maintenance, and upgrades?

I'm thinking if I did call an Ambulance without his consent I should have to pay for it?

He was out of it not answering questions. If that was me I hope someone called an Ambulance instead of just giving me water

If I was dying of thirst, I hope someone gave me some water, rather than calling me an ambulance.  ????

Free visa exemption stamp on arrival in Malaysia.  Have breakfast / lunch /dinner in the airport, and return.

    Probably your safest option also.

Frankly, I like it just the way it is ... a few million a year, and double digits where I am

The loss of choice and variety is not a good thing though.

We all have a vested interest in seeing Thailand's tourism industry being successful.  As expats, we enjoy the things that a successful tourism industry creates in Thailand.

Don't like your chances as game starts 02:00.

I searched everywhere to watch the recent rugby league world cup where Australia games started 02:30. Found nothing open. Typical IRovers, Witherspoon, Hemmingways, Metro Bar, varoius soi bukhao sports bars and Frasers in Jomtien all closed

Remember the good old days when Pattaya really was "thriving" "booming" "rammed" "packed" etc, you could easily watch an early morning match.

    Alas.....................................

No and it didn't happen to any of mine

Ok, but does that mean no one else lost one or more of their favorite places?

I think there's more to it than just being a "weaker business."  Would you say Retox was a "weaker business?"  It was always busy, and open 24/7.

In any case, can a "weaker business" be someone's favorite place?

    Never noticed that

Does that mean it's not possible, doesn't happen, is inaccurate, is misleading, is fake news etc, or you have just "never noticed" it?

When's the last time you went into a place on Walking Street?  When's the last time you went to Soi 6?

No they made it through and are now enjoying the benefits of an improving situation.

Yes, most of the "well run" places, as you call them, are still standing.  I have no doubt, despite some covid discounts on rent,  they burned through considerable savings / finance to make it through to the other side of covid.  I wish them well.

The numbers are growing.  Let's hope for a big high season and a return to normality after covid, but now the world is looking at a global recession in 2023.  Do you think that will have an impact on tourist numbers here?

As for the Russian, same question, are the Russians back to 2019 numbers?

Russians - I am told by people who live down that way that Jomtien has quite a lot of Russians now and of course there was a news report about large numbers going to Phuket......

Is "quite a lot" the same as 2019 numbers?

China - I am seeing more and more individual or small groups of males especially. Perhaps they have moved in from Cambo......

Also Hasn't China just announced some lightening of their restrictions? I agree it won't mean a sudden influx of the hordes like pre Covid but will be interesting to see what happens with Chinese New Year in Jan/Feb next year.

Yes, there are some flights from China now coming into Thailand, but nowhere near 2019 numbers.

I have no idea how long China will be keeping their zero covid policy.  It appears, with a large population, and under performing vaccines, they are continuing to combat covid with lock downs and quarantining.

Yes, it will be interesting to see when China decides to "live with the virus" nation wide, and allow freedom of movement again.

I am not sure, but a portable fingerprint scanner is a relatively cheap item, I would think, maybe a few hundred US Dollars, certainly cheaper than those Smart BMW's?

So, if one was caught up in "raid" despite doing nothing wrong, due to not carrying their passport (yes, I know that's an offense) with no mobile fingerprint scanners, or fingerprint scanners at the station, one could be banged up until they can arrange someone to bring their passport to the station.

I carry photos of my documents in my phone, not sure they would be accepted though.
