  1. Yes please. I was supposed to move back to CNX last summer but decided not to sell my house and stayed at my job here for another year in the US. I'll have my vaccine shortly. It would be nice to be able to move back this summer after the school year ends here. I was always willing to jump through some hoops, but I wasn't going to drop 50kBaht+ to stay at a "resort" charging 150b+ for fried rice.

Good condition TA22 for 220k sounds very reasonable....

Adapting bellhousing etc is do-able but I was thinking more about physical space to fit the powertrain into that car. I would think a fair bit of metalwork needs to be altered.....but why not...

Yeah, I have been browsing a lot of Thai classic and celica specific forums. A mint Ta22 with a 4age or BEAMS swap is like 350-380k. I care more about a complete interior and clean frame than nice paint. Liftbacks can be upwards of 200k more, the TA23 seems to have a higher price as well. As for fitment. there are quite a few things that fit in the TA22, fitment is not the problem. Availability in Thailand is. THings like if you swap the manual steering rack the one from an AW11 will work. I've never seen an AW11 in Thailand, a few SW20's and then quite a bit of 3rd gen MR2s.

But the Ranger MT is a great lead.

A friend put a Ranger 6 speed behind a 1UZ and stuck it in a Toyota crown, he drew up an adpator plate and got it machined.

Plenty of tidy TA22 celica's around, but they are not cheap.

Ok awesome, from the wild track 3.2? I've seen some high powered ones after mods, it make sense they could handle 300hp/300tq. Also a lot more plentiful than the r154 from a 1 or 2jzgte.

  4. So, there are multiple bell housing adaptors for the 1uz. Even though the LSx is king for V8 swaps here we have plenty of people here playing with the 1uz or 3uz. A good condition Ta22 for ~220k baht, I realize I'm looking at upwards of 700k after swap, upgrades like suspension, ecu, etc etc.

I see vvti engines go for 40-60k. A haltec would cost me 100k etc etc

  5. Hey all,

Moving back to Thailand 2021 Covid permitting. Last time I lived here was 2014 and was more into bikes. Since my toys here are getting sold I started looking at fun options and I'm noticing a lack of strong manual transmission options for engines like 1JZ, 1UZ, SR20, 3sgte etc etc. Are transmissions like r154, w58, zf50, getrag 260 etc just super rare or not even available. I've heard the Vigo manual can handle a 1UZ?

I mean, being an American means I already don't row the gears "correctly" but I'd at least like the option.

Seems like there lots of options for up to 200hp, so great for a 4AGE in a KE Corolla, but mating a 5/6mt to UZFE in a ta22 is looking iffy.

    Thanks all.

  6. I'm learning Python. There's quite a bit of tech Meetups out here. Honestly I think a lot of the people who replied are being overly cynical and judgemental.

There have been a few success stories. Some of the posters here have found success.

I'm willing to teach again for a year or so. I love Thailand. I love it more than my home country.

The most difficult thing and most rewarding thing I did was bite the bullet and moved back to the US for my education. It put me in a much better position for my future return to Thailand. If you are serious about coding, I would head back home, put myself into a school and grind it out with back to back classes, share a house and get a job that can be flexible around your studies. Talk to your advisor about what you want to do with this degree and if it's not a degree mill they will work with you to make sure you have highly marketable skills for distance work.

Yeah being away from Thailand can suck, but if it means that you will end up with a decent place to live, savings, and a good quality of life at 60+ rather than in a 3,000B dorm room with no AC, it's a worthwhile trade.

    Good luck on your dreams.

  7. I felt the same way so I became a certified biology teacher. I am 7-12 Biology, 7-12 General Science, and 4-8 middle grades science. I could tack on 7-12 Earth Sciences if need be. I endued up coming back and working at a job that started off 1/2 science / maths and ended up being full maths. I had a blast and made 3x what I did as an uncertified ESL teacher (just had an undergrad degree). If you enjoyed the teaching aspect of your time, have you considered a maths/science/computer cert and then aim for the international schools that pay well?

I am back in the US for the foreseeable future and am teaching 9th grade biology in the MYP at an IB world school. I know when I come back to Thailand this experience will land me a nice position in a well paying school.

Living here has also let me get some funds together to begin acquiring income property as well, This would supplement the teaching salary.

Find something you love doing and see if it can turn a profit, wish you the best.

  8. Ehh, they have been doing that periodically for years. I admit I have been out of Thailand for a year and there have been some big changes, but a lot of the things they are pushing have been on the books for awhile.

I would worry more about a Wave or KSR with an Endurance brand muffler more so than the bike above. Though, I wouldn't touch an inv only bike unless it was for track/offroad use only.

  9. You can get an XJ650 for about 70-100k Baht and then go from there, bet for 200k you could make a beast of a scrambler, hell you can even swap an R6 front end on them (granted, rare to find in Thailand)

For something like what you had, I would say a Honda FTR, about 60-90k with book, most don't have one though and run 35-45k

I didn't think we could get FTR's in Thailand, I've certainly not seen any in over 10 years living here.

Really man? I lived in Chiang Mai for 6 out of the last 10 years (bounced back to the US for a second degree, here again) and I saw FTR's all the time.

this looks to be the only one with a plate, whether or not it is a bent book is a different story.

When I was looking for a rare bikes I would hardly bother with any English based site. Forums and facebook seems like the way to go. However there was 1 expired ad for a plated FTR on Bahtsold, wanted 80k.

The problem is a 2001-2003 plated FTR will run you 80k, a 10 year newer CRF 250 is 10k Baht more.

  11. I don't know what to think now, the styling of the Ducati - apart from the exhaust & and the upgrade - is beautiful, especially the Classic version, but for over B400,000 I want over B400,000 worth of bike and I'm not sure that's what I'd get, what choices do I have, other than the Ducati Scrambler, in that style of bike?

    The Triumph Scrambler at 635k

If you want a scrambler, look around at the older 400-600cc bikes available. Then search that plus the word scrambler and get an idea of how you can cut one up.

    For example, an XJ650 Scrambler:

  12. I picked up a 2015 FZ-07 here in the states second hand. Out the door they cost about ~250,000B I got mine with 35,000 in upgrades for 200,000B including tax and registration, but ours don't have ABS.

I rode a Ninja 650r in Thailand. While there is only a 2hp/tq advantage the 28kg lighter FZ/MT also has a much nicer tq curve allowing you to bring the wheel up in 3rd.

The stock suspension is not as bad as the 09, but if you plan on riding 2 up, plan on dropping money on new fork cartridges and shock (about $900 USD here). We are just beginning to see companies bring out tunes for a bit of a bump in HP.

fz-07.org is a good place for info, especially if you want info on the suspension and tuning upgrades.

BTW, we got Pilot 3's from the factory as an option, what will they be running over there?

  13. Differ, Fabrique, and Bangkok bar were all after hours places. Sometimes the Zoe area is open, sometimes it isn't. Infinity is open to about 3 isn't it?

What about Eve bar and all those small places back near Old old new spicy?

I don't recall ever really having a problem finding a bar open til 4-5am, now that I am back in the US my liver is thanking me.

  14. I believe the Northern word is "Bpoong" for this breed. Chicog has the right info, very aggressive species. However, you won't die unless you are allergic to the venom.

  15. Kawasaki er6n seems to fit price and style has anyone had much experience with them, but I am still being swayed by the dinosaurs cb1300 etc there is a nice one on Hd-playground at present.

Sent from my D6503 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

As I said, I ad the Ninja650r, which is the same bike with fairings.

Had it for a year, put almost 20,000km on it. I daily drove it. I did multiple 400km+ trips

Ran it at 160-190km for hours at a time on trip from CM to Maleka Malaysia and back. Longest ride being 1144km from Chumpon to Chiang Mai in about 10hrs of riding.

The only problem I ever had was the radiator cap failed, the rubber rotted out. This caused a pressurization problem and coolant sprayed out the overflow. It was a 600B fix.

Decent touring tires will cost 12k, such as Angel GT's or Road Pilots

    First class will be 10-12k

    A genuine slipon costs 10-25k

They are a bit surgy with their power under 20kph, and a tuner can fix that along with give a bit of extra power.

I took an er6n out on a 2 day 1000km ride, and the only thing better about the Ninja was the windscreen. At 120kph on the Er6n the wind blows hard, you don't really feel it until 180+ on the Ninja.

I even had givi 21L panniers added on to it for 7000B because I loved taking multiday trips.

A used er6n is one of the best bang for your baht bikes in Thailand.

Make sure they have the maintenance records.

Mentioned the tires a few times in this thread, spark plugs are every 12k

Brakes lasted me 36k km because the engine braking is very strong.

Chains and sprockets can last up to 20k it seems with proper care.

I loved that bike and the only reason I sold it was because I moved back to the US to help take care of my father.

Actually considering a Versys for a long hauler over here and some sort of cafe project bike. Just moved back though, so I have time.
