  1. The promotion isn't aimed at attracting more foreign visitors - it's for the domestic market i.e Thais & getting them to travel . . . . and pretty successful it is too at filling the empty rooms in 2-4 star resorts.

Last year I got a very good deal for a resort in Krabi - much lower than the online rates offered by asiarooms/agoda/sawadee etc

  2. In Thailand anyone undertaking any type of work no matter what and for how long is counted as being employed in the official figures. So if you just feed chickens for 20 minutes a day on your parents farm you're working. In - but here tey are.most countries someone with a paper round would be considered as being fully employed

  3. Having your own bar/restaurant is a nice idea but if you're doing things 100% legally and all your competition aren't and so dont have any of the overheads that you do, you're going to have a job making any money unless you are going for the really high end market. Which will lead to another problem - having a good location as wealthier patrons rarely dine in street-side shop units.

  4. Never had any problems. Booked flights a couple of days ago when they started their new free flights campaign. The server is very busy so the trick is to check the times of the flights you want and then make the actual booking on the much faster mobile site http:/mobile.airasia.com - which is never overloaded.

  5. The scene: Government House.

The situation: The upcountry folks dont love us

The problem: How to win them over

The solution: Think "What would Thaksin have done in a situation like this?"

A few random statistics, promises of large scale projects and tales of untold wealth being bought to the North later and guess who's winning votes at the next election . . . your friendly junta :o

  6. Or take a look at the Expat Motors site - see the banner at the top of the page, they're in BangNa.

Berty - if you have any photos of the 20" rims coiuld you post afew here to give people such as myself who are thinking of getting a Prerunner soon an idea about how they'd look.

  7. I'm in Koh Chang several times ayear. Of the hotels you mention I wouldnt choose any of them as none of them are on good beaches - two arent even by the sea.

Bungalow in the photo (above) is at KC Grande Resort - stayed there once, nice place but can get busy.

Drop Ian at www.iamkohchang.com a line and he'll sort you out with information on hotels, beaches etc.

  8. Same here - TOT broadband - cant access news sites or even Lonely Planet travel site. Seems the junta is sensitive about complaints regarding overpriced noodles on Khao San Rd.

The solution is to download 'Tor' and use that - can still visit any site you want even the rude ones regardless of TOT servers / filters etc

  9. Garages dont care at al about the perosn buying the car, it's the guarantor that's the important person in all this as it's them the lender will go to to get the cash if the buyer defaults. This is why a Thai office girl with a monthly salary of 10,000 baht and downpayment paid by her folks can get a loan to buy a new Honda City with monthly repayments of 9,000 baht.

My ex-g/f was in this same position a few years ago with Standard Chartered being the lender who agreed to a loan of around 80% of her monthly salary for the car.

  10. I rented a condo there - also 2 bed, but in essence one bedroom, as the other was the size of shoebox - for about 5 days in 2000.

Moved out because of the reason above, couldn't get UBC on one side of the building. The owner had said this was possible when we rented, turned out it wasnt. She had another condo opposite and wanted to set up a dish there and run a line above the ceilings and into our condo but the building owners wouldnt let her.

They had a nice waterfall in the lobby but the pool area was way too small for a condo of this size.

  11. There is a web site www.longstay.co.th which gives more info . This scheme will apparently be open through several approved estate agents ?? !

Come on people, have a bit of sense and dont fall for glossy marketing. It's an usufruct, available anywhere in Thailand on any plot of Chanote / Nor Sor 3 kor land. Not in anyway unique to Samui . . .other than there are maybe more cashed-up, gullible people on Samui than elsewhere.
