Indeed, so it seems. 1. Although this instance came to light, it begs the question: how often does this happen, but never come to light, in the ordinary course of this government? 2. Perhaps it's true (what I once read on these pages): the entire civil service is devoted solely to enriching themselves ... so this US vaccine business was cast aside as unproductive ... and left for the tea-lady to deal with.

Will it help that the Thai Minister will now go and personally meet with the American Senator? I doubt it ... the US is waiting on paperwork, and unless the Thai Minister has that in his back pocket, it won't progress things.

Thereby teaching others that breaking immigration and (I presume) labor laws there will just get you deported (and no other penalty?) ... almost makes it worth a try.

A typical deflecting-the-blame game: US says: "You didn't do X" Thai says: "We did Y" (and adds the "misunderstanding" tag, which must resonate as a fully acceptable excuse in the Thai mindset). Well, (assuming everyone gets double-vaccinated this year ... although they're presently under 20% of that) it's looking like everyone will be needing a "booster" shot next year ... i.e. boosters for 60 million (?) people ... so why just order 8 million doses? - it's looking like next year's booster shots will be the same as the current system: ordered in dribs and drabs, and always at the back of the queue ... whilst better organised countries ordered big and ordered early.

I always get a twinge of anxiety when I hear of their 20-year plan ... and I wish they'd clearly state when it started.

Tops almost always have them ... both regular (cheaper) and "organic" (more expensive). I simmer them in a slow-cooker for a few hours, when cooled then into the fridge ... easy to peel before eating. I admire those here that add a pickling stage ... but I reckon they are fine eating without it.

Indeed, and well said. As late-to-the-party Thailand scrambles to find vaccines, they are only for "round one" ... and it seems that "round two" is just around the cornor: everyone actually fully vaccinated (not just medical staff) will need booster shots before very long. Has Thailand already ordered the booster shots? ... or will this be just be another short-sighted error, leading to a new round of delays and scrambling next year?

I thought that you can still be infected by, and transmit (i.e. carry), the virus even when vaccinated (albeit you're less likely to get serious symptoms yourself). Yet here a virus specialist argues for the vaccination of this group because "they should not be virus carriers" ... inferring one is not a carrier if vaccinated.

"Amazing Thailand" was a better moniker ... "New Thailand" just lacks pizazz ... they couldn't use "Neo Thailand" because Pattaya has already grabbed that one.

I'd have thought the more certain, and better, approach would be to just order vaccines from the manfacturers (albeit that will put you at the end of the queue). "make representations" sounds like beg, borrow or steal ... it might work, might not ... meanwhile more time runs by.

You can imagine what a Thai "vaccination passport" might look like: 1. Sinovac: one dose in muscle, 2. A-Z: 1/4 dose under skin, 3. Moderna: 1/8 dose in the sinus, 4. Fah Talai Jone: 60 tablets 5. Amulets: 2 6. Mor Chan app: installed.

Thailand seems to refuse to come to grips with the enormity of the current crisis ... ostriches and sand come to mind.
