Hi Issangeorge,
used to stay at the Kaen Inn many years ago when first moved to KK, was looking a bit tired then, has it been done up lately.
Some of the siingers of a night time were sexy and handy for Number 1 bar just around the corner

There's the Kosa and Charoen Thani which I think are around 1000 -1200 baht per night, check on websites

Having worked in many different countries with Thailand as my home base have flown many carriers over the years
KLM - used to be a great service and liked Schipol but seem to be going downhill
Air France - never liked them and charles De Gaulle is a crap airport, very few amenities
BA- Being from the UK embarressed by the attitude of flight crews.
Thai - once again used to be great but customer service now leaves a lot to be desired
Cathay Pacific - still a good service
Singapore - about the best around
South African - were ok and good flight crews with the right attitude
Turkish - using them a lot now and find them very good
Etihad - not the best, but certainly not the worst
Emirates - again it's 50/50 as sometimes good and sometimes bad.
China Airlines - ok
Austrian - good service and efficient
Lufthansa - same as Austrian
Azal (Azerbaijan) - scary sometimes as planes are very old
Georgian airlines - same as Azal
Biman Bangladesh - never again

Hi Guys,
coming from airport there is a resort called Ratchawadee about 400m on the left hand side, the owner is called Mr Kem and is a very good guy, known him for about 5 years
He has properties for rent and are good value, I do not have his number to hand as offshore at the moment, but call in the resort and ask for him or telephone number and sure he will oblige

I will try to find the book about this, but the Vietnamese also when they invaded created "Kiling Fields" and blamed in the the KR, in no way I am defending the KR as the two were murderers

Khunandy,
good post about the positives/negatives, glad to see someone upbeat about life in Isaan. I spent ten years in Phuket before meeting the wife and moved to khon Kaen seven years ago and it was like a breath of fresh air.
Positives are too many too mention, negatives ? I have very few although the cockerels might come quite high up on my list.
Thinking about it, being a dog lover, another negative would be the irresponsibility of Thai's who don't take care of their dogs.
Big positive ....Mor lam concerts..gotta love 'em

Was at the game last night and an utter disgrace, from heroes to zeroes.
Totally outplayed, midfield posted missing for entire match

Looking forward to the game as working in Georgia and a big Scottish contingent here and in nearby Azerbaijan (who are all travelling up for the game) aslo heard a few planes coming in from Dubai...got my ticket on Saturday and right on the halfway line...go on Scotland

Yeah I travel on e-tickets from Thailand which my company issues to me, went to check-in after waiting 1.5 hours and the girl is looking at the print out for a while...tries doing a few things with computer....asks supervisor to help, Oh Sir you have to go to Thai Ticketing Office who will issue a paper ticket.
Hold on here there is e-ticket number and locator number why can't you find it ?
Sorry sir, but paper ticket.
Off I go to the ticket office and the lady there takes one look at my intenary and says this is e-ticket....mmmmm I know, I explain what happened at desk and she then gets on phone and by the tone of her voice was giving someone a bollocking....she came off the phone and apologised.
Trots back to the check in and somehow it was no problem with ticket now ??????
I can't figure out how they could not check me in, in the first place

Surprised as only circumstantial evidence at the moment, why are they jumping to conclusions straight away it is a felang, don't some Thais speak English ??

Agreed all, stayed at Royal Princess last month and was very impressed by room, food and service, having a car does help

Yeah Thaddeus transport is essential in Isaan, before we bought the car the wife would transport me around on the back of her bike, I didn't put up with that long as not too keen on bikes, plenty of song taeows as live quite near KK city centre but just took too long to go anywhere
Once we got the car complete difference...wake up in the morning...what to do ? let's go a run up to Ubol Rattana dam, it is just that easy, plus having a family means trips to Tesco's/Big C/Makro to do the weekly shop made easier.
-
Also 9 hole on the army base, railway is a bit run down and too short as space limited

What does a felang do all day in isaan ? depends on your location first...if you are out in the sticks then transport of some form is essential and internet access is also required.
It all depends on the individual too, myself I love fishing and go all around Khon Kaen trying out new lakes or if all else fails just cast out on the lake at the front of my house, also lucky enough to have the army golf course only 2km from me.
As I am only about 6km from city centre there is plenty of felang bars to visit, ten pin bowling also.
Also just jump in the car somedays and have a day at Ubol Rattana dam which is pleasant.
Do try and find a hobby as being bored can mean reaching for the bottle.

Where I live in Khon Kaen (Ban Santisuk) we have a local community centre for the kids which has a boxing ring, punch bag, etc.... I had noticed that the equipment was a bit outdated and thought of an idea to help raise money...a charity football match with the local team vs the local expats.
It took a bit of organising as Felang United had no strips (taken care of cheaply at 120 baht a full kit per person), had to find a venue (local school), line out the pitch in blistering heat and clear the pitch of rocks, big eskie full of water, coke and beer !!
Well what a great (long) day was had by all and we raised 7500 baht for the equipment, maybe about 150 spectators, it actually brought the locals closer to the local felang populace.
This is something we are going to do on a regular basis now with a different charity benefitting each time, maybe every two months as my work permits......the day was rounded off with a barbeque at mine's with a few beers thrown in.
So if there are any budding Beckham's out there just let me know and will give details of next game.
Oh almost forgot FELANG UNITED 6 SANTISUK CITY 3
